We were in a store once and a older lady came up and said please don't take offense but I admire you two so much. We just acted like, oh we don't care, he's gorgeous to us. I knew what she meant and we weren't offended. We just said Thank you for your encouragement, it isn't easy. She had tears in her eyes. Great miracles in the surgery department! He looks great. Just a little scar on his lip.

Yeah that happened to me too. They told me my son had a possibility of having down syndrome, the chances were 1:120 (which now I know why those numbers were the ratio and symbolic) but instead he was born with Asperger's (a milder form of autism) Its the foods we are ingesting because animals get down syndrome too. There is this bull cow who is called Billy, and he has down syndrome. Even his horns are lopsided, uneven and a little twisted. Lol I do not like Billy, because although Billy has an impairment, he is also a bully. "Bull cow Billy the Bully". Lol Hence the term Bull/Bully.

I know an adult Down Syndrome person, and he is kind of an angel. He came with me to the hospital when my wrist got broken at age 61. He sat with me in the waiting room for a long time, and I felt really blessed and cared for. When the doctor finally saw me, he didn’t believe my wrist was broken, because I had no pain and no swelling, (thanks to Charlie). But the X-ray showed it was very broken. You never know what kind of miracle your Micah might have some day, lots of days.

Most people aren't super heroes, they are ordinary heroes because they choose to think or behave in extraordinary ways day by day working with in the limitations they are given, rejoicing in life rather than living in their 'if only' world. It takes a lot of strength and character to recognize that your value is based on who you are, not want you are or own. I hope you come to understand this. My son is 9 months old, he's a miracle baby because I was told that due to my genetic chronic illness I would never be able to carry to term, and he was a wonderful surprise after a number of miscarriages. He was induced a month and a half early to save my life because of my high risk complications, and after three weeks in the NICU they told me had Downs, which they discovered while running genetic tests for my condition.Thankfully it is mosaic downs and he dodged all the health issues that can come with the extra chromosome. He's small for his age but incredibly healthy, strong, and so smart. Downs syndrome is a spectrum just like Autism, but a lack of awareness has made it so hard for them to be treated without prejudice. We don't tell anyone he has Downs, physically he doesn't show any of the characteristics yet and we are adamant that he will be given the exact same treatment and opportunities as any other child. His physicians have all agreed with me on this, to never make an assumption about his limits and just let him fly and so far he's actually ahead of the milestones for a baby his age and preemie. The news devastated me at first because I didn't want his life to be difficult, but then within a matter of hours it lit a fire in my soul to make damn sure he has every opportunity on earth at his disposal. I wouldn't change a thing about him outside of being able to make it to term before he was born, and my family is blessed to have this sweet, adorable, funny and intelligent little man in our lives.

I have been a caregiver for the disabled for 10 years. I have watched many couples get married. Some with slight cognitive issues to some with downs and they have a happy prosperous life. One of my good friends has a brother with downs. He got married to another girl with it and they live alone. Amazing love story. My other friend was born to parents who were a bit cognitively off and she grew to be a beautiful woman and take care of her parents in her 30s.

Is that like the opposite of downs syndrome? I met a girl in hospital once who had the opposite of downsyndrome chromosome wise well that's how she explained it. She was perfectly able to get around and do stuff she had spinal issues and a few other things but it's quite rare I just wondered if that's the same thing.
@SamarasWorld
@SamarasWorld 2 жыл бұрын
@@Football-is-fun-bad20 Great question. Down Syndrome is Trisomy 21 so it's not the opposite, just different. Trisomy means that there are 3 copies of the chromosomes instead of 2 the way it should be. So Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome) means there are 3 chromosomes on the 21st pair and Trisomy 13 (Patau Syndrome) means the extra chromosome happened on the 13th pair. Trisomy 13 is more rare and has more severe complications unfortunately.

@@Football-is-fun-bad20 I think the opposite of down syndrome is spina bifida. Because when my mom was pregnant with me, they did genetic testing and there was this test where if I had high levels it meant spina bifida and low levels meant down syndrome. My levels were kinda high so they thought I had spina bifida. But then they did more specific testing and determined I didn't have it.

I have autism myself.. I’m 20 yrs old and have been on my own since 14. I still deal with the symptoms of my autism but they are super easy to deal with once you know what causes the symptoms. Sleep deprivation and hunger are huge causes of autistic meltdowns.. which can be fixed in a day or less. If I can’t manage it (like if it is caused by change or unexpected problems.. then going to be alone is a form of treatment for me as it’s the only thing that calms me in that situation). Teaching them about their illness will help prepare them for the world.. it helped me manage it more than anything (even better than therapy!).. I’m lucky to have found out about my autism.

I love your statement minus the “ normal people” at the end, of course I know what you you mean’t and that there was obviously no ill intent behind the words. I would just challenge that the people with Down’s or Autism are “normal “ whatever that is? After all we all have our differences. Maybe a better way to verbalize is people without their challenges! @@yousosilly9817 You can't say that about her own lived experience. Just because one has a visual stigma and the other doesn't, it doesn't mean they are "not comparable." Especially since her comment was all comparisons between the two. One difference doesn't make them incomparable. I've often thought that autism would be more difficult because it doesn't have the visual. Nowadays, people in the US are usually kind to people with Downs. However, with someone with autism that you can't tell just by looking at them, people seem to judge more harshly just because they don't know what's going on under the surface. Not saying one is easier than the other, just some thoughts on how no visual stigma can be harder.
