I hope that girl didn't get scammed, because that $300 could've been used to pay the bill. Actually so sad for them right now. Never give money out to people who are supposed to hire and train you, unless it's for a class or gym. Please be wary of giving out your number to just anybody as well.

The fact that she thinks she is not prettier with her natural hair, it's because of society standards, I hope she gets to accept herself with time, straighten hair it's not bad, but I hope she learns that her hair is beautiful too.

Beauty is subjective, if she wants to integrate into Korean culture, then she has to follow their rules. Asian cultures aren't about individuality, it's about conformity. If she wants to be empowered for "being yourself", she can always go back to Africa or some western country where individuality is valued.

@@Cxs1a3 it is not a matter of integration dear, I'm not stating that someone is not free to straight their hair or put a different look, it's about accepting who you are firstly, accept your origins and your beauty, before wearing another. Something is saying:" I love my hair but sometimes I also like straightening it", Another is believing your natural hair is less prettier cause society makes you think so, and you are not forced to conform to what others want, you do you for you, not for others. Have a nice day 🙏🏽

I think we should all approach the hair issue very sensitively. she's young and she wants to fit in like any other kid. when you're young, you want to look like everyone around you. she already stands out coz she's black. She's surrounded by Korean kids left and right, nobody looks like her so of course she's want to copy the other kids. Also the idea that all black people should love their kinky hair is a bit much. Some black people prefer to keep their hair straightened because it might be easier to keep up. I have had kinky hair for years and the routine can take me anywhere between 2 to 4 hours to achieve the style that I want. I decided to chop it all off recently because it was time consuming. Not liking kinky hair doesn't mean low self-esteem or lack of confidence. it could just be a convenience issue. Not everyone is attached to or defined by their hair. If that's you, good for you...if not good for you too.

I get where she’s coming from but I don’t think she should hate her hair or mock it. I share the same frustration with my own hair but never will I say I hate black kinky hair because overall the world already looks at our hair as ugly. I want her to learn about so many things she can do with her natural hair or just black hair styles alone and then if she still prefers straight hair that’s fine. You can be frustrated with your hair without hating it. It likes people with straight hair saying I hate how fizzing or greasy my hair gets but do they out right hate straight hair no. It’s self-hate at the end of the day without really understanding your culture or your self.
@anaispersephone6041

@@minervaowl8298 I see your point but we really can't surmise that not liking your hair is self hatred. We discount the fact that we don't all shares the same cultural values and opinions. Are there instances where that is true ? Absoultely! I don't deny that there are people who think kinky hair is ugly. And sometimes those sentiments can come from people closest to us. But like I said, some people just aren't attached to their hair or think too deeply about it. I think people should be able to express those sentiments without people assuming that they hate themselves.

but she literally said that straight hair was prettier? like I get convenience and wanting to style your hair differently and all that - but kinky hair is beautiful, and I hope that she can grow to appreciate her natural beauty in the future. I also have super kinky hair, and sure, I straighten it every now and then. But part of being secure and confident in yourself is appreciating the natural characteristics you are born with. Disliking your ethnic features is a sign of internalized racism based on another culture's beauty standards.

Been to Togo twice for a month both times. My fiancé is from there. Born and raised and came to the states at 27. From what i have seen Togolese women don't wear the natural hair out. They do braids, wigs, weaves, or wrap with cloth. Even his friend's wives who live in the states (all Togolese) don't wear their natural hair out. Everyone compliments my natural hair. I do wish more women wore their natural hair. I can also say though i have the "preferred texture" when it comes to natural hair. But i love all natural hair and wish more would show it out. I completely agree that not everybody will wear the same and sometimes i like to switch it up but seeing some people with it truly bring confidence and courage to young girls who cannot wear their like adult women do.

I am half togolese so I often visit Togo and also wear my hair natural, so I often receive compliments as well. I think the reason for why many women don’t wear the hair out is because it costs so much money to get the right products, so many end up shaving their hair off or wear wigs/braids etc. but I do think the desire to have natural hair is very strong but it’s not possible for them to maintain and care for it.

@@briannanight8395 I wouldn't say it more socially acceptable, its just, that the majority can't afford anything better than that. Natural hair is actually a part of the beauty standard in Togo (the traditonal village beauty), meaning the society sees it in a positive light. I just think money and time are the biggest obstacles and make it practically impossible for the majority to care for hair, its easier to put on an old wig, walk around with a shaved head or wear braids for 2 months or longer, since you dont need to do much to maintain them. I would even dare to say natural hair can also be viewed as a luxury, since you have the time and especially the money to care for it, and the majority simply has to struggle to make ends meet.

Honestly the hair thing, I get it. But the fact that she straightened it by perm😰. That’s irreversible so either she keeps perming her hair. Or has to cut it off(she’d probably not like her hair even more). It would’ve been better if she straightened it with a hot comb or flattening iron, the if chooses to, she could wear her natural hair

Straightening her hair is no different than us changing our hairstyles, clothes, and makeup while going through middle and high school. Any girl would say that. She wants to fit in and most of us girls have gone through the same thing. Even if it’s not to fit in, she maybe just likes her hair straight, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Curly/kinky/coily hair is hard to take care of and I don’t blame her for it. But hopefully as she gets older she’ll gain the curiosity to play and enhance what she naturally has. But for now, I see nothing wrong with her having preferences.

if you are not black do not speak on black issues, and it is not the same. when you change a hairstyle you normally don't do it because society has repeatedly told you since you were a child that your hair is ugly and undesirable. you normally don't change your hair because your natural hair gets you fired, expelled and ridiculed. it is not the same.

i see how it’s more convenient and how she could have a preference , but it’s controversial only because black women’s hair has always been looked down upon . if we silk press , straighten , etc, we could typically be doing it out of dislike towards our natural hair . that’s why it’s shaky
@claggor6378

Straightening you’re hair is VERY different from changing your hair/makeup. it’s conditioning yourself to think you’re not good enough with your natural hair. People are made to think curly/kinky hair isn’t beautiful which is due to racism. This is literally a race issue no way are you comparing this to changing clothes.💀💀
