As a millennial parent it's so embarrassing to see every parent shortening kids childhood and pushing skincare and aesthetics instead of toys and candy. Teaching them overconsumption and insecurity instead of just letting them being kids.

The fact that these parents are basically calling their daughters ‘ugly’ is kinda heartbreaking to me. My mom works in the beauty industry and she DOES NOT do the bs that these moms do! She buys me and my brother chocolates and sweets every year for Easter, and asks us again and again at the start of the year “do we want chocolates for Easter this year” She doesn’t force beauty “standards” and social standards onto me, she accepts me for how I am as a teenage girl who doesn’t care about, nor like beauty and makeup If my mom ever got me beauty products for Easter I’d cry in sadness Tbh I’m kind of glad I don’t have TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, or the rest of those social media apps (more like hatred society, be perfect in every way media apps), it’s a shock what some children have turned into (same with parents), and a shame too.

At this point in time, it’s safe to say the main concern of these holidays aren’t the kids anymore. It’s a way for parents to show off, and gain a following on social media. When I was that age, my parents had gotten me a little wicker basket full of candies and chocolate and I was happy! This generation is going to grow up with such unrealistic standards, they’re being spoiled from such a young age. This isn’t healthy.

4:04 - "I think it's because of TikTok." - A little girl explains in seconds why young kids are demanding skincare. I've seen it too. I spent my Christmas season in a lower-income country where Sephora doesn't even exist, but my host family's kids still know all the brands because of TikTok. For presents, I brought them candy and art supplies because they're *children.* They have their entire lives to worry about skincare and how they look.

The only skincare kids should be obsessed with... is sunscreen. And I don't even think I saw that in any of these videos or tiktoks! I can get parents wanting to not give as much chocolate to their kids as a health choice instead, but there are so many better options! I personally, as a kid, would have lost my mind over a fruit basket for easter over a basket of chocolate, things like chocolate covered fruits and nuts too, or my mom would make different sort of balls with different ingredients that wouldn't even take that long to make with oats, honey, and peanut butter mixed with nuts and other stuff. Or make hard boiled eggs and paint them? I loved that so much as a kid!! This is just proof that tiktok is awful and should die. The fact that so many children are allowed on it, nvm unsupervised, and clearly their parents are okay with this is so wrong...

This just proves that “Sephora kids” wouldn’t exist if their parents (most commonly their moms) didn’t enable the behavior. They need to stop getting makeup and harsh skincare, get them some chocolate and yeah maybe a cute cup or smthn. I think if you want and can to spend 1000+ dollars on your kids go right ahead, but buy something that is age appropriate and useful, if you have a teen that likes makeup then yeah it makes sense, but not for AN 8 YEAR OLD GIRL! Anyways happy Easter y’all 💕

What I've come to realize about the nonsense you see on TikTok, particularly expensive behaviour like this: This isn't a common thing, like it's not normal people engaging in these behaviours. All social media is really is a place for rich, out of touch, privileged, awful people to display how they don't live in the same world as the rest of us. It's a place to brag about all the things they have, that the majority of people will never be able to attain. This makes me hate these "influencers" all the more.

The problem is that while we're old enough to see through it, little girls who are being bombarded with this kind of content will think this is normal. That in order to be cool and beautiful they need all that stuff too, or that they're lame because they can't afford it or their parents don't want to buy it for them. It's really sad to see that this overconsumption and beauty obsession has become a sort of life goal for this new generation of kids

I remember losing my mind as a kid when my grandma said she hid a $1 in one of the Easter eggs for the egg hunt (in my 20s currently) I can’t even fathom the idea of getting a 1400 dollar Easter Basket with a phone and a bunch of skincare that most 2-13 year olds don’t even need. Like I’m unable to have children due to my disability but the idea of having a kid right now with what seems to be expected by other parents currently is terrifying. Like the idea of giving my child a cute lil basket with maybe a couple dollar tree toys in it and then hiding a dollar in one of the eggs like my grandma did warms my heart, but realistically I’d probably be told I was being cheap and cruel to my kid

There’s always been those kids whose parents are going into debt for holidays, just to give their kid bragging rights. Growing up I knew a kid whose family lived pretty tight, didn’t own a car, rented a modest place, but went all out on holidays. That kid got an N64 for Easter (when they were new, obviously). I think it’s a lot of rich parents with social media just wanting that “bragging rights” feeling of the neighbour kid from their childhood. This is from the perspective of an average millennial parent. Because none of use are out here doing all that!

I have a sweet tooth so whenever there is a chance to get candy, I'm gonna take that damn chance. I only got like 30 dollars, and I was overjoyed. I would be disappointed if I got skin care instead of candy. I DONT EVEN GET EASTER BASKETS WHAT THE HELL. Even my aunts and uncles joined in on the fun and began throwing each other some confetti filled eggs! I love that my family still do this. The we got to fly kites. On Easter we go to church and the family has a big lunch together. The only gift i ever recieved is candy, and i love it. I'm glad someone can afford these ridiculously expensive presents, but it literally kills all the fun... As 24, i still can't wait for it, because it is special because of the time spent together. When i was little we decorated eggs with my mom. Idk if other countries has this tradition, but here boys come and splash the girls with water (or just throw an entire bucket at us, lol) in exchange for some gift, like candy, drinks or money. We don't have the time anymore but still sit down and play board games, and have fun together.

"I have never bought skin care, makeup, perfume, or phone products for my kids. Instead, I gave them an activity book, a couple of toys, and tons of candy on Easter. The most we ever spent on Easter baskets were the only two premade baskets we ever bought, and they cost us over a hundred dollars. However, we were fully disappointed with them, so I kept the baskets. Every year, as part of our family tradition, I would have my kids set their empty baskets on the living room table. While they were asleep, I would fill the baskets. For the comedic factor, I would make little bunny paw prints from the front door all the way to the table with little bunny dropping every now and again. My kids knew it was Easter and the Easter bunny had been there when they would hear me loudly complaining about how that darn bunny messed up my floors again. They would come running out of their rooms and I would be standing there with a broom and a mop. As they got older, I would set traps to catch the darn rabbit to prevent him from dirtying my floors. Every year my kids would sabotage my traps. sigh lol. Anyhow, we had two rules in our house - no Easter basket went above our budget of $50, and once you turn thirteen, Easter baskets are no longer given out."

Other items we got were candy, mostly those malt candies and jellybeans, and a few stuffed animals. I wish people would keep Easter baskets to toys and sweets. Games are the higher end item and will last longer than some harmful makeup/skincare. It would be sad to see traditions like egg hunts and egg painting go away. Literally the most expensive thing in my Easter baskets growing up was a DVD/Blu-ray movie (sometimes Easter related, sometimes not). I also got a bunny Webkinz when I was 9 and I was thrilled! (Remember Webkinz? That was THE SHIT in third grade, everyone wanted one. Skincare, what skincare?) Sometimes I would get some cheap little Easter themed toys/games too. And this is just all the non-candy items, there was always candy! When I was a kid, it was always implied that Easter was not Christmas, Christmas is where you get the 'big' gifts. But with Easter baskets this expensive like in the video, who even needs Christmas presents (or vice versa)?!

It's more important than Christmas I think! Christmas is when Jesus was born and Easter is when the purpose of his birth was fulfilled. As a Christian myself I find it kind of icky/unsettling to go to this level of gift buying for such an important religious day. Why are these kids getting baskets worth upwards of $200? 😅 The majority of people don't celebrate the religious aspect of it so I don't really understand why they are going to these lengths to celebrate a "bunny holiday"

I'm 17 (Turning 18 in 8 days woooo!!!!). My family and I still do Easter baskets despite me almost being an adult. This year my mom gave me a bunch of candy and chocolates and an adorable little purple Peeps bunny plush. She does this every year. The entire basket is candy plus ONE non-candy item that is generally less than $10 (usually around $5 even) like those cheap but cute holiday bracelets at Claire's or those iconic lip smackers flavored lip balms and whatnot. As much as I love skincare, makeup, and fancy things, Easter wouldn't feel the same without the candy and a little inexpensive but thoughtful gift. You don't need fancy stuff to make Easter a fun holiday, even when you're an older teen. If I want fancy stuff, I'll go buy it myself or request it for CHRISTMAS or my birthday, not Easter.

Why is the Easter bunny bringing makeup and not snacks? You wanna know why? Because she can earn a commission on these products and can't on Easter candy. And you can earn a bigger commission on more expensive products, that's why the bigger channels push more expensive skincare in their kids' "Easter baskets" (aka. mommy makes a basket for herself, or even more likely, mommy films a video then returns all the products back to the store).

I feel like my mother always spoiled me with Easter since it was her favorite holiday though it's moreso some candy and a couple little toys, she carried on the tradition even into my adulthood and now does the same with my siblings. Although she's noticed my siblings are difficult, kids just don't play with toys much anymore once in elementary school which is rather sad. My ten year old sister (who is not allowed social media) still asks for the drunk elephant and Stanley cups. I understand the kiddy fads but it's just a bit strange in my opinion to expect really expensive skincare from the Easter bunny.

Damn, in my Easters my parents just hide eggs around the backyard. Am I complaining? Absolutely NOT! Easter is supposed to be a fun day, not spending thousands of dollars on your kids..Just give them a couple chocolate eggs! I’m so glad as a gen-alpha, I havent been cursed with skincare obsessed parents! I love my parents.

now for holidays my family just does huge gifts or baskets. it's so much easier and it's always things that we actually need with a little bit of what we wished for especially during christmas.

I was very poor when my kids were younger. I have never let them go without anything. I decided years ago, my kids were going to get a small basket with practical gifts instead of toys and junk. My 10 year old daughter got a nice sketchbook and several other small crafting items she uses every single day. These are things she recently asked for because she was running out of materials. I put together a very nice basket for her for maybe $30, candy included. She absolutely loved it! My son is 19 and he still gets a basket. He also got candy and a multi-location use gift card and he was just as happy. Raise your kids to be grateful, not materialistic brats expecting luxurious items on holidays!

easter baskets arent even a thing here in the netherlands, but eating chocolate eggs and bunnies etc is something we do generally, so i would expect "easter basket" to be filled with easter related candy and maybe some cute little bunny or chick thingies

So thankful I have stayed firm and my 13 year old does not have a cell phone. She gets influenced enough by the ones who do. At this point, I’m pushing her cell phone to 16 or 17 when she drives and don’t even think about social media, kid 😅 love my daughters way too much for this. I’m 33 btw. My 13 and 7 year old daughters got a bunch of candy, a couple Barbie accessories, some homemade soap for the teen with a $10 Starbucks card because it was a cute bunny. They’ve been eating on their candy and we did an egg hunt and watched a movie. I can’t have them growing up too fast. 😢

Helloooo. Im 13, and I got what I thought was a deluxe basket. This is coming from a canadian. -2 family board games -HUGE bag of sourpatch kids -TONS of kinder chocolates -school clothes (I wear a uniform) -and a 50$ sephora gift card BUT my siblings got wayyy more chocolate than me, but I play hyper competitive sports so I have to eat healthier.

My daughter turned nine today and about two months ago she told me that she didn't want a birthday party but instead wants to renovate her playroom (she has a separate playroom because the two rooms downstairs are tiny)...I have to admit I was surprised and did ask her many time's if she's sure about it so yeah when she's with her dad I will be renovating her room but she still got a view presents from us...if you can spoil your kid's it's fine but I think there should be a limit no matter how much money you have...It can only benefit them in the long run...oh and the renovation of her room will be her Easter and birthday present in one from me and I have many diy surprises planned for her 😍😍I can't wait to see her reaction
