One of my favourites, thank you!! I've been watching this movie since I was a kid, but your discussion about some if vthe complexities brought a new realization. I'd never connected Arielle's brothers death to her recklessness in any way except to get attention. But I realized that she's now about the age he was when he died and it's almost as if she's trying to cheat death.

I was a sophomore in the Spring of 1984 when this movie came out. I saw it in a sold out theater on Tuesday Dollar nights and it seemed like the entire high school was there. When ut goes to black many people stood up preparing to walk out but the movie came back on and people sat down to finish the dance scene with the credits rolling. I still have my Footloose album I bought over that weekend after watching the movie. I do not like the Footloose remake...it really stunk. Ren's mom was in Gremlins a few months later.

6:50 - Kevin Bacon had two gymnastics stunt doubles, so that was NOT him. Also had a dance double, and he was frustrated he didn’t get to perform all the dance moves.

I was in high school when they filmed Footloose and released it in theaters. It was filmed about 30 minutes from where I live (SLC, Utah). You can still see Lehi Roller Mills where Ren worked as you drive past it on the freeway. And for the record... yes, Utah does indeed allow dancing. 😊

It’s funny you mentioned Arkansas. I lived in Bentonville for a yr and it was a dry county. Bentonville=home office of Walmart. Mrs Walton was the one who wanted it a dry county. I believe dancing was allowed though, lol.

"HE IS TESTING US!!" This is the first thing I ever saw John Lithgow in (12yo when FL came out), followed by WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP. He is one of my top five actors of all time. I love that the first role that came to your mind for him is from DEXTER, just because it was such a wide departure from this one.

So yes while Kevin did do a good amount of his own stunts and dance moves, however he has admitted he had stunt, dance and a gymnast double. So the flips and the really amazing moves those were done by a professional dancer or gymnast

Banning porn in schools isn't banning books. On the open market you can buy any book you want, so there is no banning books.

Ah, yes. The old justifying fascism by slapping the”porn” label on it trick. People often say they want to ban books all in the name of “protecting the children “. We all know that’s not really the case. It’s really because they are afraid of a book not aligning with certain religious views. “It’s not banning. You can find it in any library “. That is, until they put pressure on the library to ban the book as well. Footloose”, as well as being an entertaining movie, does a really good job of shining a light on the hypocrisy of of using religion as an excuse for book banning/burning.
