About Dude Dad:
Hi! I'm Taylor Calmus, a Colorado-based actor/comedian. I started Dude Dad© two weeks before my son Theo was born as a way to stay creative while learning to be a father. My wife Heidi and I now have 3 kids and over 300+ videos. My purpose for the channel is to entertain, enlighten and inspire.
In addition to Dude Dad©, I have been in numerous TV shows, commercials, and have regular appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live. I will also be hosting my own TV show called "Super Dad" on the new Magnolia Network / Discovery+. Heidi and the kids will also be a part of the show. I am originally from the rural community of Howard, South Dakota.

Keep the tattoo as is. Hubby has some from his teen years as well. When the kids ask what it is, he tells them it's proof that at one point, he had more dollars than sense. It's a teaching moment.

100% get a half sleeve or a full sleeve. And what tattoos you should get, make them your kid's artwork. Either use your favorite ones your kids created already, or ask them to make your tattoos. By far the coolest ones I found.

The "one on one time with the kids" is a great resolution! You're right, they're always better behaved by themselves rather than in the "flock" 😂 And it really does allow you to step back and see who they are ❤

Dates with your kids is so important. I didn’t do this nearly enough. And when you do, you’ll show your sons how to treat someone else they’re with, your daughter how she should be treated, you’ll give them a safe space to talk to you about what’s on their minds, and they will absolutely love you for the dedicated time. You two are very thoughtful of each other and the family as a whole. Really admire all you try to do. Taylor - talk with a tattoo artist about your concerns (find one recommended by someone you know with a tattoo you like) and figure out the options to maybe make your current one look better.

My favorite as a mom of kiddos who have all reached 18 years old😢 - is the one on one time!!! My husband took our daughters on donut dates every Saturday until the flew the coop - actually, they still go when them come to visit. I think it’s the sweetest thing and I’m thankful for his feeding into their lives. ❤

That is very true! My childhood friends' parents had only wanted 2 children. Well, when I met them, they were about to have their 6th. I was about 3 years older than their oldest, so I really enjoyed the Littles as they came. They ended up having 11 children. Which was so much fun because the kiddos are trained and taught respect. A lot of people have 2 kids, and it can seem like 30 because of how they behave. 11 children really isn't that uncommon where I live though. And congratulations on welcoming your 5th bundle of love!

My baby is 1 month old and I'm breastfeeding but omg it's definitely not easy. It's exhausting and demanding. Like u said Heidi,u must be ever mindful of how u treat ur body, what u eat, how often/much u express etc etc and I'm proud to breastfeed but cudos to u for being selfless enough to do it for so long lol I know it isn't easy! Idk if I could handle doing it that long so I admire ur selflessness and amazing motherly commitment

Keep the tattoo. Crown of thorns and cross has a meaning that you chose and is honorable. If someone asks about it being a barbed wire, you have an opportunity to share with them what it is and what it means to you. Glad to see how God is continuing to bless you and your family. Keep up the great work.

I’d imagine a tattoo artist could come up with a creative way to make your current tattoo something that better reflects who you are now without committing to an entire sleeve. Removal is always an option, but it could be fun to add or alter it to align more with Dude Dad Taylor. Let it grow with you rather than cover or remove

I completely agree. I met some amazing moms through MOPS and we have continued to hang out and support one another as our kids have moved through grade school, middle school and now high school. It started at the meetings, moved to continuing the meeting to a lunch at someone's house or McDonalds with the kids and Play area.... and maybe going to a park and then started planning some ladies dinners, movie nights, couple dinners, camping weekends..... It has been great. It is so needed to have the friendships, the laughs as well as the support during hard times.

I was another who was surprised to learn the tattoo is supposed to be thorns and not barbed wire. A consultation with a tattoo artist to see what can be done with the existing would be my recommendation. Since you brought up family planning, what influences your family planning decisions and why. I know you'll receive several viewpoints, but I think it would be interesting to learn how you two reached a decision and why.

Heidi - as far as meeting parents in town: my youngest was born in 2020 and doing the normal Fort Collins baby/toddler activities were stripped away. I found most of my parent friends were found randomly at parks around town or doing the toddler classes at places like mountain kids or clothes pony and dandelion story time were great. Hard to meet at the local parks right now with the weather (even though it was 50 the other day hah) but my favorite parks for my 4 year old and 2 year old are: spring canyon, twin silos, Lee Martinez, and sugar beet parks. You should look into the toddler gymnastics class at mountain kids if you haven’t already that was a great one. I did it with my toddler when I was pregnant too!

My favorite is when you tell people you're pregnant with #4, priceless and sooooo true! now try that with number 5 haha. I've also nursed all 5 of my beebs past the year and it was amazing. It is hard work and totally a full time job, but the benefits are awesome. I love them being 1 yr old and still asking to be picked up to nurse and snuggle. AND YES, PLEASE PRIORITIZE POST PARTUM CARE!! The wound left behind from the placenta is the size of a DINNER PLATE! Im Mexican and my mama forces me to do as little and lift only the newborn for 40 days after birth to avoid my wound from tearing again. I listen because come on, its 40 days of snuggles and no work haha. Please reach out! My water broke early with my daughter. I’m sure you have an IV, but if not, stay hydrated and remember even foods can relax and strengthen the body. It was suggested that I avoid too many germ inducing checks. I know doctors opinions vary on this so do your own research and be an advocate for what you feel is best. 💕 praying for the both of you. I picture you at peace relaxing having a bowl of chicken soup and just working on the baby book. Ask the nurse after birth to put a footprint in it for you they are experts at that. Hey guys! I'm a big fan of your channel! im a Christian tattoo apprentice! my advice for clients or anyone considering in getting a tattoo (wether that be a sleeve or not ) keep a few things into consideration; - Think on it for awhile. Timeframe wise, I'd say couple months to a year and reflect on the design and see if your feelings about it change or not. There's no deadline for you to make a decision, take as long as you need! - Style The most common is American traditional patchwork, but there's also Japanese, realism etc. (not going to list all of them) There are also different sleeve lengths, so you don't necessarily need to have a full arm. You could probably cover that up with a quarter or half sleeve. - Color or no color - wardrobe ( if your considering color) If your worried about colors clashing Sleeves take a lot of very careful planning, but if your able to find a reputable artist to Collab with I'd just send them what you do and don't like so that helps on the artists side. There's no rush with tattoos, if you are having second guesses just let your artist know; don't be afraid of hurting our feelings, because at the end of the day we just want to give you something to be proud of and love. If you still think about getting a sleeve later though I've seen a lot of beautiful biblical realism sleeves I think you'd like. God bless you and your family! 🙏🏻 :)

You can cover the tattoo or redesign the tattoo without doing a whole sleeve. You could also do the tattoo going up into your shoulder as opposed to going down your arm. I got tattoos when I was younger and hated them. It took me about 10 years to figure out what I wanted to cover them with and I absolutely love the cover ups. You know how much the cover up will cost, with removal, you don't know how many sessions you'll need or what the end result will be and it could end up looking worse. Talk with a good artist, they should be able to help guide you.

Definitely agree that the mommy groups or family groups are key and help you reach out in your community. Two groups I found in my home town were MOPS Mom of Preschoolers, it's like a Bible study group, and allows you to fellowship and celebrate motherhood. The other is NEM No Excuse Moms Workout Group, I love it because not only do we meet for workouts with our kids in a kid friendly environment, but we also do more. Playdates, walks, book Club meetings, mom night outs/ins etc. It's really fun and we get to know each other and expand your inner community to raise these kids. Totally know they have groups across the country, definitely recommend looking into something like those. 😊

Heidi, I would hang with you! But I live in Washington. Taylor, I vote to just live with the tat you have. It doesn't sound like you super hate it, more like maybe you've grown tired of it or people's reactions to it. I have a small tat (and two others, with plans for another) that I would like to have sort of changed to more accurately represent what it actually is, so I get it. But I think in your case the sleeve or the removal, neither are a great option. I know this is super personal, but since you put it out there I also want to weigh in on the scissors! Don't do it! There are other ways to keep your family the size that it is, if that is what you want (we use a cycle tracking app called Clue). We have six kids, and love every minute of it! That's just my two cents. Love watching you guys! Thanks for sharing your lives with us!

No sleeve, keep the tattoo you have. As others have said, it's a teaching moment. Our daughter wanted (and got) a tattoo and one of the drawbacks I warned her about was that it won't look the same when she ages 20+ years and her skin isn't as smooth as it is now (it's on her wrist and forearm). Always reminds me of the jail scene in "Moms' Night Out" when the daughter sees Patricia Heaton's character's Donny Osmond tattoo and is horrified. "Is that a face?!" And then her response when daughter swears off tattoos, "Thank You Jesus, thank you Donny." Makes me laugh every time.

I chuckle at your commitment to taking more photos of your fourth. We have 4 kids, all two years apart, and I was worried, as well, of not taking enough pictures of our 4th. Problem was, I was snapping them so often because I was too busy to remember if I had taken some or not. (First 3 years of her life was prior to digital) She has, by far, the most baby pictures 😂 BTW, our four kids were busy but beyond worth it and the baby stage got easier with each one.

LOVE that it's vasectomy! You would be amazed how many couples I know don't even consider it an option, but WILL talk about a hysterectomy - as if mom needs a major surgery on top of one or more pregnancies!

Heidi, you might look into getting involved in a local MOPS group (Mothers of Preschoolers). They often have amazing opportunities to connect with others (and often have childcare too. 😉)

Mom of 4 boys - I can relate to SO much! We live in the Springs or I'd meet up with you since we really do have a lot in common. ❤️ Your priorities are spot on for the New Year and I'm excited for what's coming for you this year. Welcoming out 4th home was a whole different experience because our oldest responded differently than they had when they were all younger. So MUCH love! One thing you might consider getting and making room for is a second refrigerator. Once #4 starts eating soilds, our one refrigerator wasn't enough space. Our youngest is now 2 and the second fridge saved my mental health (I hated shopping every week)

Heidi, I found a M.OP.S ( mothers of preschoolers) group a good way to meet and connect with other moms. These groups often meet in churches so I want to encourage you to ask around. (By the way, the kids are busy with activities while you’re in your mops group.)

Breastfeeding IS a fulltime job! 100% agreed. I tracked the hours and I spent more hours daily with feeding my newborn than I usually spent at the office. Also the whole "maintenance" (taking care of your diet, your nipples, taking your supplements because you're low on iron, etc etc).

Have Heidi look into a local MOPS group. Moms of Preschoolers. I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old and that’s where I initially met new mom friends. Also, if you’re able to sign your kids up for rec center classes that’s where I have met a lot of moms too. Or if you ever come to Summit County CO to ski (that’s where my family lives) we can all hang out at the mountain! We need some families to come and take turns watching the kids while my husband and I snowboard 😊😂

I feel you on the mom thing! I have a 5 year old girl and my husband and I literally moved to Loveland CO last month and we have zero friends here. Our daughter doesn’t have anyone to play with yet since she does start school until this year and we’ve been on the hunt for neighbors with kids 😅 it’s difficult being 28 with a 5 year old too because everyone is slightly older. We should have moved up the street to Fort Collins. Seems to be more family friendly than Loveland. Fingers crossed I can meet moms too 🤞 ❤

You two are so much fun! Love your content and your honesty. I’m on the other side of having raised three great kiddos, and am now an empty nester, so I can’t stress enough the importance of savoring every moment. We would do date nights with each kid, and they were the best! Kids got to choose the place-so fun! A talented tattoo artist could make that crown of thorns into something else. Tattoo removal is ouchy😳.

The tattoo sleeve can be a great way to tell the story of your children. I have a nature scene on my right area (gave my right arm to my family) that has various animals that represent key members of my family. For example, there is a bear cub rolled on his back, playfully batting at a butterfly, to represent my son and daughter. There is a family of white tale dear for my father and brothers…my father’s initials worked into the antlers of one of the bucks. Find meaning in your ink, and when people ask about it, you have a cool story to tell. Good luck!

Gotta go with a sleeve, but keep the tat you already have. Every tat I have represents something to me, whether it’s a time in my life, a specific person or place, or something about me...even the one that isn't actually what it's supposed to be. I was told that it's the Japanese word "Love", but years later a Japanese lady I was close to told me that it's not a Japanese or Chinese word or symbol at all. But, it still represents a certain time in my life. They all tell a part of my story in one way or another.

Why stop at 4? Once the oldest is big enough to make PBJs for everyone, things get so much easier. My oldest is 6 and it is a HUGE upgrade in helpfulness from age 5. She is incredibly helpful with the baby (now almost 15 months). We want 5 or so kids (once you’ve had 3, adding more isn’t as much of an impact-so we’ve been told by a family with 8 kids).

My first son has 3 albums of fabulous photos, my daughter has 1 album, my youngest son has a small booklet of 6 photos his godmother gave me as a christening gift for him. The rest of our photos are on a disc! Got videos that need converting from VHS!! Maybe future grandchildren will sort them out!?! X

I love my tattoos. Seems like a lot of folks in the comments that just don't like tattoos. Every day that I look at them I appreciate them more. So it's up to you. A tattoo isn't a waste of money any more than any other self-care is and it lasts forever, if there's something that you really like why not?

For the one on one time here is an idea. During the summer when school was out my day would pick one of three boys to take to breakfast. Early 90’s kid so about as cool as it could be. He’d sneak in around 6:30/7:00 and wake one of us up to go get breakfast at our local diner. One of my favorite childhood memories. Same waitress for years, always called her “the chocolate milk lady” between my brothers!

Love your videos! So do our kiddos! We have 8; four boys and four girls. The oldest is 22 and the youngest is 9. They don't stay little for long, so cherish every moment. And we have so much fun with them now that they are older, especially on yearly family vacations. We hope to go skiing in CO with them all next.
