For real! I do EVERYTHING for my daughter. One of my proudest moments as a mom was last week when i was able to fly her to Florida and take her to Disney world. It was sooo expensive but i worked my ass off for that moment and i just can not imagine using that money for my own enjoyment instead.

Probably not. I grew up in Mexico and my family there thinks we are have abundance of money, not rich but that we have more money than them just bc we live and work in the US. Although it's true that the US's minimum wage is much higher than Mexico's, the living cost here is double plus we pay taxes for everything we buy unlike Mexico 😪

Well, in later episode, she does reveal that she does give her mom money but it doesn’t justify how they treat him and Kalani and of course the kids. I guess it’s a culture thing which in a way I get but that shouldn’t deem a whole dilemma with his mom acting like that from what I believe she has nine kids, so I’m guessing they all send her money. I don’t think him sending her money or giving her $100 is gonna Put a dent in her pocket. Except her and his father did that for their parents, and their parents did that for their parents. Generation after generation giving everything they can to those who raised them, knowing that one day their children will do the same for them. Look at how many Samoan athletes have bought their parents houses before even being home owners themselves. Going into debt for their parents and not themselves. It’s just the culture...The western world is focussed on giving everything to yourself and your kids. They’re focussed on giving everything to their parents, knowing that one day they will have that favour returned by their children. Imagine scraping by while giving your parents every luxury you can. And the only thing you know is that it is just the way . You know your kids will do the same for you. Because it’s the way. And suddenly your son decides not to. You gave everything to others, you struggled your entire life helping family and never had the favour retuned.

But just because something is a part of a culture, doesn't automatically make it right. Lots of negative expectations ingrained in every culture. And there are just the realities that living in America IS expensive, and he has a legal obligation to financially provide for his kids as well. I get a cringe every time Ken and Buff say that Asuelu is "wholesome." Has Ken seen the clip where Kalani is carrying both the babies out of the car, and Asuelu closes the door in front of her? He then proceeds to go play video games and doesn't help with the kids. (I believe is Happily Ever After Season 5: Ep.1). I have a feeling that Papa Bear would take issue with that kind of behavior. Then when the pandemic hit, Asuelu refused to stop going out and playing volleyball everyday, even though his wife asked him to respect the quarantine-- especially for the kids. I don't think he's evil; just a ridiculous man-child.

Still however, many foreigners think they can just come to the US and make tons of money (it's not their fault, because America always advertises itself as the land of opportunity). I’m from a small island in the South Pacific called Palau, and it is absolutely, 100 percent all about money! If a family member is in the US, they are immediately considered “loaded” and money is asked for all the time. At any family gathering, money is expected. Weddings, Funerals, Baby Showers, House Parties. It’s announced over a loud speaker who gave and how much! They could care less if you’re kids have food for the next month. As long as you have what you’re expected!

My husband & I went through this with his parents in Trinidad when we first started dating. He was working a lot and was sending 1/2 his money home to them. it took a lot of talks to get him to understand what was going on and get him to stop. it came to a head when he called to tell them that we were engaged & I became "White Trash" & I ruined him. uh huh.. ok. he doesn't talk to them at all

Can't stand that mentality. It's the LAW that a parent MUST provide a shelter for their children, food, warmth and basic needs like schooling, clothing, and heat. Telling your kids I did this and spent that on you now you owe me! Just makes it seem like the kid was a burden. My father tried that once on me and I shot back with "I never asked to be born! I feel like this isn't fair. a) generalizations about a whole people based on one family is crap. b) in some other cultures like this there is no safety net for the elderly, they usually have a lot of kids that are expected to provide for them when they are too old to work - I believe this is the cultural difference they refer to. this 100% doesn't excuse their behaviour at all, they way I see it they are taking this cultural difference as an excuse to try to to mooch off him since in their eyes he's now "a rich American". pretty disgusting to see the way they try to manipulate him and squeeze him for money. family should always come first, whether they have money to give or not. that doesn't reflect on other Samoans.

This is in part thanks to Kelani, who showed him what a non-abusive family actually is. He’ll eventually get the strength to tell them that, but he needs to get to that place himself.

I blame it on how his mother raised him, they all treat him like a little Cinderella boy, Azuelo go do this, Azuelo u cant gave friends or go play with the other boys..Azuelo when you get to the USA and get married you need to give us ALL your money cuz we are your parents and we raised you, you owe us. I think he better off staying away from toxic mom and family, he seems more happy, less stressful more focused on his OWN kids n family like a man should. Hes doing his best working in the usa, and his family cant be proud if him for that, cuz it dont bring money to them, lazy bitches, u were fine before he come to usa, why now things changed? Plus what I dont get is she wearing a thick winter jacket and in the Pacific islands the weather never goes below 75 farenheit. To tell u the truth, my sons are 21 and 22 and I have a 2yr old grand daughter, and I've never!!!! Asked them for money, if anything I should be giving them money cuz they are starting off with their lives as a family etc, it shouldnt be the other way around. I've never asked my kids for anything other than just to come by and see me when you can.

The family bringing out all the "this is the Samoan way", Kalani should have brought her Samoan dad along so he could have intervened in case they're just making stuff up, and even if they aren't, weigh in on their side, like "you're here with two daughters, and you ask money to your one son who has a part time job and two toddlers, ask other people for money? Get a job? Get a pension? Pretend you didn't have kids and you were supposed to take care of yourself once you're old?" like, are you telling me that in Samoa everyone works till they're super old, and then get zero money, so they rely on their kids or they starve to death? As much as I like watching the guy, most of his ''asked a friend'' statements feel a bit like ''my dad works at Nintendo'' in my opinion. To clarify I don't know anything about Samoan culture and standards myself so I won't say he's just saying things but I'd be more inclined to believe those things if he recorded his friends giving those statements rather than him being the middle man and passing that info to us.
