These people, who I have great compassion for, are also the reason millions of people are told to take Tylenol for postop pain, injury pain, etc. I spent 3 days recently crying in agony with an abscessed tooth waiting for a root canal because many dentists are afraid to give someone 6 or 8 codeine pills for legit pain. There has to be a middle ground.

What she did was horrible and could have had a very different ending, but it's so easy point and judge when you wasn't in her skin. No one makes good decisions while in the throes of addiction. She said she felt ashamed and embarrassed at the time. But she has apparently came out the other side and is not going to continue to torture herself. She cannot heal until she forgives herself. I would believe she's grateful her child wasn't old enough to share her shame and won't remember the incident. But most grateful to be given another chance to be a good mom and make good memories.

Wow!!! Such horrible and nasty comments about this young woman...It's heartbreaking. She made a TERRIBLE choice and has paid the price for it...She got help and is turning her life around. Why can't people be happy for her?? Instead they have to bash her and be cruel?? I am in NO WAY justifying what she did AT ALL... But enough with the hate!!!! I wish this woman nothing but love, happiness, and continued success with her recovery. God bless young lady.

Not everyone gets hooked on painkillers I have been on them for my lower back pain and I would never ever do anything it must be my age but I have a daughter who had a addiction to oxycontin and now she is on Suboxone and she is working on getting off of everything I am so proud of her and I understand why people abuse their medications but I am a Rn so I take break's with my vicodin which helps me go to the bathroom and resets my opioid receptors so I can quit at anytime with no problem and addiction runs deep in my family. I really think that these people who want to get clean shouldn't be put in jail they need rehab to address the issue that causes them to use not jail. It should be a rehab that they can't leave and are forced to work the program then move into a sober living environment.

I'm giving my opinion. I'm not in her head any more than you are. If you disagree with me, it's that simple. We disagree. Ha! I feel like she doesn't truly get it because she is doesn't seem like it bothers her. She could have dropped her child off somewhere safe before she did the drugs. Her parents' house, a friend, hired a babysitter. She didn't though. Getting the needle into her arm was far more important than the safety of her child. She shouldn't forget that. @@beckfan4149 shoulda, woulda, coulda, what exactly does she need to so to convince you that she is bothered by the situation? Her actions were in keeping of an addict and unfortunately, even parenting is made second to getting high. Join the rest of us and pray for her continued recovery instead of speaking negativity. We are all entitled to our opinion, but my mom taught me that we have to be mindful of how they are expressed, and if it really matters.

This is what happens when u hang around the wrong people, bad influences, this is why you should never "dabble" or try drugs, you never know how the body will react. At least she took responsibility for her actions, I hope she meant it, we shall see that's the real proof

Diane Crane why she’s clean when she was on heroin he was only a couple months DONT even remember what happened. She’s clean and he’s now with his mom who has always been a good mom just making bad choices in life. The best thing for her and him was to be together after the situation. Taking kids away from the family don’t help them as well just a FYI

The medical community is leading the public to believe that all you have to do is take prescription pain medication, and you will become an addict. However the National Institute of Drug Abuse reports "It is possible for a small number of people to become addicted even when they take them as prescribed, but the extent to which this happens currently is not known." Which means they haven't fairly researched the patients who take their medication as prescribed, and they only sensationalize those who don't. They admit if you take them as prescribed, chances are you'll be just fine. Why are they not reporting balanced that for the mass majority, these medications can and are being taken and managed safely? Boring!

As long as it was the general consensus that drug abusers were mainly, those of African Americans or Latino groups, thereby resulting in apathetic ,and hollow slogans and gestures ,very little is done to aid these communities. Now as it can't be denied that many caucasians are addicts, if not more of them ( as they are the majority), there now seems to be this attention of urgency to assist ,and bring focus to this "pandemic" as this word is often now used. Just because these people are doctors, lawyers, nurses and so forth, and white, does the press to aid them mean more than for others? What if the picture were of someone that is African American or Latino, would it have garnered the same manner of attention of any national talk show platform? My guess is "no". No longer can you bury your heads in the sand and make declaration, privately or in public, that it's this sect of people that do these things, because now, your sons, daughters and grandchildren are caught up too. The devastation of drug use must be acknowledged throughout all groups, not just in the white communities. I

So should one never even take pain killers, even if they are prescribed it like for example a back accident or molars removed, etc? Because of the possibility of getting addicted to it? Cuz I’m sure none of these people prescribed pain killers meant or thought they would become addicted.

Geri Schiavino she does still have full custody of the baby. He was never taken away. Her mom kept him while she went into rehab.

Nicole White, why? I have a friend who was a single mother with 3 children. She had a bad crack addiction for most of her kids' formative years. That was one of the paths God put before her, and she chose to walk. But God knew that if she was given another chance, she would make better choices. Today her oldest child is a school teacher with 2 master degrees, her 2nd is currently working on his masters, and her baby has a B.A. Sometimes removing the child can do more harm than good. Who knows where her children would have ended up.

@@brittneelester5772 I am the daughter of two junkies. I grew up surrounded by them. I am jaded. The odds were against my siblings and myself but we managed, we raised ourselves and we are ok, but all the other kids we knew are not, some of them are not even alive. Opioid addiction is the hardest to kick, its the nature of the drug, it's just a fact. Many people who are drawn to it and stay on it have some other component to their chemistry and genetics that may predispose them to this addiction and the inability to get off and stay off of it. I am of the mind that it isn't worth the money and effort to try and cure it. I say do what other countries have done and provide free methadone and offer incentivized sterilization or birth control that does not need remembering (IUD, Depot Provera). I would rather see money spent on providing for all the kids lost in the foster care system, intervention for kids who are born addicted and social programs that keep kids from becoming addicts. The devastating effects of this addiction ruin lives and cost lives. It causes cycles of poverty, abuse, neglect and more addiction. It is easy to say "everyone deserves a chance" but unless you have been affected you have no idea what that means, what that asks, and what that costs. Uplifting a junkie isn't helpful, they thrive on enabling. Calling me names and telling me that I am ignorant is something you might want to check.
