Exactly! What woman who started her own world renown business, 4 previous marriages, and 4 grown children has the self worth of a gnat to do anything like this? I feel so bad for her daughters! At the end when Megyn asks Debra, “what did you learn from all of this” all she said was take her time, do research but she should’ve said “ I SHOULD HAVE LISTEN TO MY KIDS! Kids are like dogs if they don’t like you there’s a reason. She should’ve put her hand on her daughters arm to comfort her when her daughter was talking about the attack. She barely showed emotion. It’s no wonder the daughter has had to go to therapy.

Hi John, this is a tale of a narcissistic abusive relationship. The narc, John, brainwashes the victim and Debra is a codependent who yes is desperate for love because some where in her someone made her feel like she wasn't good enough. She doesn't know what real love is. Her father isn't really discussed in the series, but I am only on episode #5 on Bravo TV. John Meehan did this to many women, even one that was a psychologist. Narcissistic men AND women are very good at what they do. They deceive their victims with the cycle of abuse. First stage is love bombing, devaluing is second, and the discard is third. Depending on how effed up the narc is this cycle can go on for decades. The victim is usually a codependent. I was a victim of one and he was married...psychologically abusing his wife for over twenty years and they are still together with 4 kids. If you don't understand, don't judge. You have NO clue what entrapment is until you are there.

He probably went after Terra because Debra literally asked for protection for herself and other 3 kids in restraining order, but didn’t ask to protect Terra because she didn’t think John would go after her. It’s in the podcast and it amazes me how nobody acknowledges that. She straight up put Terra’s life in danger. Debra is disgusting and I hate that she’s getting treated like the victim when really it’s Terra who’s a victim.

@@sweetielady7710 That’s because Terra lived in another state, and John didn’t have a car. Also, you cannot just get a restraining order without there being a proven threat to that individual. It actually took a few failed attempts to finally get the restraining orders, and she was only able to get them for the children that he actually threatened. All of this info is in her book. Being so judgmental isn’t healthy, try having compassion. I would start with self-compassion.

It’s completely ridiculous that still to this day Debra tries to justify her actions when John was alive and still tries to play the victim because her kids were estranged from her . She wrote a book that makes her look worse then she already does. (Not yelling in caps pointing out) She wrote before she moved in with John SHE KNEW HER KIDS DISOWN HER if they knew she was living with John so early on yet she went right ahead and moved in with him. How does that make her the victim? She wants to whine and play the victim because her kids were not visiting her or speaking to her but yet right after the Thanksgiving disaster SHE THE ONE who basically told her kids if you want to come see me you have to get along with John and her attitude was like it it not John here to stay and your gonna have to learn to live with it or deal with the consequences. How does that make her the victim? She blames her kids for Christmas being a disaster but before that she told her kids if you are gonna have problems with John it be best if you didn’t come then at the Christmas Eve party yet she shocked because 1 daughter refused to come to the party one left right after she got there and she refused to stick to the boundaries she agreed to with Tara and says her kids were being childish. How does that make her the victim?

I think Debra should have been a secondary player in this story. I think it's a much more powerful narrative coming from Terra Newell. Terra faced down pure evil, a desperate man twice her size, wielding a knife and a crowbar, and she fought like a tigress, and survived! Her's is the story that should be put in the forefront. A strong, intelligent girl, who still loves her mother ... regardless. I hope I would be just as brave and courageous as Terra, if I ever have to fight for my life!

As for the daughter, she *is* young. I think it has something to with the fact that she knew he was off the whole time. And she’s still protecting herself from the experience. Listen to everyone, including Megan Kelly trivializing/sensationalizing to some degree, and *then* asking how she can be so matter of fact. She states, “lots of therapy.” She’s been immersed in the circumstance and coached into thinking positive in order to go on after he attempted to murder her. I’m not saying she doesn’t have a quirky (kinda rich girl) personality. But it’s not fair to characterize her affect ( or her mom) as being anything deserving or attracting evil.

This is more the story of a lonely, desperate woman who didn't want to see. Incredible that she took all of the evidence to John. WOW. MK "none of which you knew." SHE DID KNOW and endangered her daughter by blowing it off.

I live in the same town as the Newell's and I'm just so shocked I never heard of this story. It's just insane, lots of people here would never even imagine that something like this would happen in our town. Just goes to show that no matter where you are, no matter how "safe", evil will lurk anywhere.

There was another woman who was duped by her husband (Clark Rockefeller), who said when she was on the stand in her own defense of how she could be tricked by his lies for so many years: "One can be brilliant and amazing in one area of one's life, and really stupid in another." It's true, emotions get in the way of good sense sometimes and people fail to see what is obvious or right in front of them. Some people want to believe the best in others, and Debra's upbringing had a lot to do with that if you listen to the podcast.

basileus megas Thank God for fear! Children, who are not old enough to reason, can still have fear of strangers, which sometimes may save their lives. the most amazing part of this story is how closely it resembles a LifeTime movie. the lines of conflict are drawn early on and just keep growing and then (after the last commercials) there is an explosive, violent resolution and if its a woman being attacked by a guy (as it usually is) the woman at some point pulls off some unrealistic maneuver like wresting the gun from the guy or delivering a crippling blow to the crotch and of course emerging OK while the baddy gets what's coming. So now this story is going to be a Bravo movie but in a few years it will be on Lifetime I gaurantee you. Art imitates real life that imitated very formulaic art.

I don't believe that she was looking for love. She wanted a very specific package: tall doctor who is in great physical shape, who talks confidently and is good in bed.
