Hi Sherry! I love your videos on your experience. I first homeschooled my now 12 yr old son last year... and we are being brave (lol) and doing it again. But in all seriousness we had a blast! I literally had to follow the "learn as you go" homeschool method that I made up because I never heard of Charlotte Mason or any other way to homeschool. So searching up 'homeschool' online made me feel super overwhelmed and kind of sad.... until I found ypur channel. 😊 So many (not all) had things and material I couldn't afford or huge spaces for their kids to work. I'm a single mom who also works full-time. I want to encourage any other mom who feels like she can't do it or it's too hard. Sherry is extremely down to earth and wonderful to listen to!! Sorry about this long-winded comment but I do enjoy your videos and recommendations. I've found tons of treasures at rummage sales that may be decades old but have wonderful information!! Thank you for your heart, faith and encouragement, Sherry!!❤ Amy

In the last 12 years I’ve read a lot about educational theories, including all Charlotte Mason volumes. The philosophy that resonates with me the most if that of Dr. Raymond Moore. I have bought and read every single he and his wife Dorothy wrote and they have been very influential for me. I’m glad you are mentioning them here because they are the best kept secret in homeschooling circles.

Thank you Sherry. You’re a very comforting presence on this platform. I don’t know if my questions following perfectly pertain to your video, but it’s something I’d like to ask you’re opinion on to help “narrow down the voices” in this homeschool world. First, approximately how long do you expect your middle school and highschool kids to read during a school day? Second, how have you navigated screen time? I feel very strongly about not giving adolescents free reign on internet anything. I’m finding we are the minority among our peers, and it’s very difficult to navigate. Blessings to you ❤

So glad to be of help! As for question #1, 2 or 3 hours seems about right😁. As for the second question...well, that one has a whole bunch of possible answers. Maybe for a future video? You are a great encouragement to me❤️

Yes! I love this! Your biblical point of view and take on Skinner. He always creeped me out while I was getting my teaching degree., no wonder I homeschool.

I am looking forward to the future videos. I’ve been racking my brain this year on choosing a method. We did traditional kindergarten last year with Christian Liberty Press but I scheduled out our year wrong and we fell way behind. It became paperwork upon paperwork and while it’s a good curriculum, it was too much for us. We stopped close to halfway through. I wanted to do simply charlotte mason but it seems too expensive for our current situation and I fear I’d get overwhelmed with it all. Now we are pretty set on doing easy peasy all in one homeschool but I still keep wondering if I’m choosing the right thing. I’d love to read all these books from these wonderful homeschool pioneers but have an extremely difficult time with reading. That is why I very much appreciate videos like yours that go through their philosophies. You are a great encouragement to me!

"Overwhelm" and "expensive" are two common words used when describing popular curriculum choices. I hope the next video will help even more!

Thank you so much for doing this series. Even after seven years homeschooling, I cannot find the right balance. How much history and science do I do? What if your children do not care for group learning? Would it be possible to share an updated video on you filling out your assignment sheets? We utilize them and your Math and LA reccomend actions, but I never know when I should start adding in history and science outside of a family read aloud.

Same, after 7 years is still a mess, I remember in my early years I read "it take 1 year to find a routine" 😂😂😂

@@MomDelights Also, I noticed in one of your videos (on math I think) that you said you used several different books (Ray's, Hamilton's, and Flashkids). Would you mind sharing how you use multiple resources for a subject like math? I have several options available, I Just don't know how to use them together.
@MomDelights Жыл бұрын
@@alishaberrey4479 I think it takes splitting math up into its different "subjects," such as basic operations, long division, long multiplication, story problems, fractions, etc. Then you take your different texts and use the best explanations and problems from each. Or, at least taking the problems in the different texts to give your child extra practice, or practice from different angles. It helps to have a basic outline of the progression of math learning.
