Sherry, you are a breath of fresh air. After watching your videos, I have NEVER felt pressured to "go out and buy something" to solve a problem. Instead, I feel inspired to take my insecurity to the Lord and let him lead me to a solution to whatever problem I'm having.

Amen Sherry about loving our husbands! The Devil comes to kill, steal and destroy! When my father retired 5 years ago my mother went through a huge shift in their relationship. It was very hard for her to adjust to having him home. We had no idea that he would suddenly pass away last year and has so many regrets about not loving him more and complaining about the small stuff. She would give anything on Earth to be “annoyed” by him again. When I am temped to be annoyed and angry with my husband or feel like he’s not doing what I want I have to step back and ask the Lord to remind me that he (my husband) is a soul in this earthy vessel with so many expectations on him. He is doing the best he can just as I am.

This is so timely. For several years I have felt the desire to simplify our schooling. But I don't know how to implement it, how to give it the structure that apparently our kids needed. They also resist writing, and without having written instruction coming from a workbook or such like, I have no teeth. Please be nice to me. I know. I'm the Mom. But I have had to face things in my life that have taken a toll on my physical and mental energies. I have homeschooled four children. Next school year we are down to our last one. She will be 10th grade, but not up to that level especially in math, and also reading. I've been stuck on how to get English credits. I tried her in a placement test for CLE language arts and she didn't remember what an adverb was or contractions. I need something that isn't mom taught, I can help if needed etc. But it can't be me having to be with her everyday in order to get it done. Our school money we have set aside has been slowly dwindling because I've had to take from it at times for other more pressing needs, like.... Food, and a pair of shoes (Walmart) In the past we've tried, ACE school of tomorrow PACES, CLE, Rod and staff, easy grammar, Winston grammar, and analytical grammar. I'm currently looking at Fix-it Grammar but I don't know how involved I'd need to be. She saw a sample of bju English and liked the like of it... But, the price makes it hard for me to want to buy... What if it doesn't work.. And to be clear, I have not used all those English curriculum on one single child. Those are what we've used over the years between all four kids.

A question about your notebooking process: Do your children notebook every chapter read in certain subjects, e.g., every chapter in the Coffin book? I'm also curious about your approach to high school Science. Thank you for blessing us with your wisdom. ♡
@MomDelights2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes, yes, as in the Coffin book. But not always; as one daughter is writing a 1000-word essay each week on anything she likes, even though she is in the middle of reading a number of books right now. Also, younger ones with shorter attention spans tend to do well with little bits at a time. I have a video on how I do science, just look on my Mom Delights channel.

The Lord has given me an idea for our upcoming school year for social studies. I want to focus on a different prayer for our nation every few weeks. So we can start by praying for our government and learning about how the government operates at the local, state and federal levels. We can thank God for our Christian Heritage, praise him for the natural Beauty, for the Lost Souls etc. I'm really looking forward to this because it's the Lord that keeps giving me the ideas of how to do it.

I love the confidence. I do like having Christian light for the core, but I hope to really explore for other subjects in the upcoming years. Do you have tips on how to get a 2nd grader to write. He loooives to read and be read to. But language and writing, not so much.
@Qetesh7772 жыл бұрын
It’s the perfect age to have him tell you a story, ( you write it for him ) and you publish it ( meaning write it in a blank book) maybe have him draw pictures then pull it out from time to time saying I want to read your story. My 2nd grader loves writing stories now that he has one he is so proud of it.
@MomDelights2 жыл бұрын
@@Qetesh777 This is so good! I was going to say that this is totally normal for boys, especially at that age, and that Charlotte Mason had children "tell back" to develop their writing before they sat down with pencil and paper. Also, according to Dr. Raymond Moore, it has been proven that children (boys) that young should not be doing close book work. Best to wait until 9 or ten, believe it or not!

THANK YOU, Sherry, for your wisdom and for sharing such practical information - I am so thankful for you! Regarding the 'Story of Liberty' - what age do you recommend this book for? Middle school? Highschool? Also, I wondered if the associated notebooking pages are available on your website? They look fantastic and thank you for showing us an example of these in this video! We have absolutely loved this simple (yet incredibly effective) way of learning (reading/prepared written narration pages) - thank you for leading the way and changing our homeschool for the better!
@MomDelights2 жыл бұрын
You're so welcome--yes, I actually have an entire page on my blog filled with all sorts of free things. The age range for the Story of Liberty for independent readers would be upper elementary through early high school, but it could be read aloud to children who are younger/older and would still be of benefit--it is that good :)

What a great video! I'll be downloading that homeschool guide. I've been using your lesson books and they've been easy for me, and effective for my daughter. I can relate to spending lots of money on curriculum in the beginning... 😭What are your thoughts on extracurricular activities and homeschooling? I have 5 kids and counting and I can't see us being able to afford putting our kids in all kinds of classes and activities every year, but I've been feeling a little guilty about that.
@MomDelights2 жыл бұрын
This was my philosophy on that: I could either try and give my children everything and lose out on giving them myself, or I could strive to give them the best of myself by limiting all of the business and then if we could add the other things in it would be gravy on top. Would my kids appreciate a mom who was rested and could respond with kindness and enthusiasm, or a worn-out, dragged-out mom who could barely keep two thoughts together? This really helps me when the guilts attack.
