Momma Rabbit Saves Her Baby From Attacking Crow

A little bunny had a close encounter with a vicious crow in Lacey, Washington, before its mother came rushing to save the day.
Footage captured by Cora Sharpe in May 2017 shows a bunny being preyed upon until a full-grown rabbit comes running to intervene. As the bird persists, the mother chases the crow away.
Speaking to Storyful, Sharpe said she started filming after she noticed the bunny being attacked in her driveway. She said, “It seemed as if all hope was lost … until a mother rabbit ran to the scene …. She chased off the crow to protect her baby.”

I saw the same thing today by my house....and I didn't step in because I was afraid of scaring the momma rabbit away....but she did a great job protecting her baby and the little bunny eventually got into a bush safely.

Taking into consideration that would likely never happen in the first place because crows don’t see neither puppies nor kittens as a prey item, I would also argue why the owner was letting their very vulnerable pet wander outside, where it could easily get hit by a car or mauled to death by something bigger. So you’re denying the crow a chance to feed itself (and probably it’s own offspring) just because you favor cute little bunnies over it? Lovely. @ Lord Envincar What farmer is so negligent of their livestock that they let crows get close enough to do that? Couldn’t be me. Besides, I have relatives that DO farm, and they don’t have any problems whatsoever with crows, aside from them occasionally getting into open feed bags. And no, as someone who studies birds- crows, for the most part, would rather go for anything else than something as high risk as a puppy or kitten. Said puppy/kitten would have to be *tiny* and infantile to be anywhere close to a crow’s ideal meal.

Run the crow over? That's a little dark, considering it's their nature. I agree that maybe they should have got 9 out of the car, but then what if the person intervened and scared the mom rabbit away, only for the crow to come back and be successful? It's not that simple. She did her duty and protected her baby. I understand how upsetting it is to see. I just witnessed a hawk kill a rabbit. Had I realized sooner what was going on I would have given the rabbit a fighting chance. But this is different. Also, crows are incredible and do not usually prey on rabbits. You want to know who does prey on rabbits, hawks, and you want to know what nature alarm system to warn prey of hawks, crows...crows actually chase them out of the area.

@Justin V. Not really. Crows (and pretty much all corvids) eat anything that they can find. That can very well include garbage, but that’s if people are negligent about keeping their garbage out for the animals to eat. Crows eat anything from insects, spiders, snails, earthworms, frogs, small snakes, shellfish, carrion, eggs and young of other birds, seeds, grain, berries, and fruit. AND if the opportunity arises, they will go for small mammals such as young rabbits or even squirrels. It’s a very big source of energy, small mammals, because they have a lot of energy to give off. It’s such a big source of nutrients that even herbivores such as deer or cows will jump at the opportunity to eat a walking energy bar with no survival skills whatsoever. Maybe it wasn’t rib-showing starving, but if you were a wild animal with no clue when your next meal will be (especially if you’re a crow, and could have your food stolen from you by your fellow crows or a meaner animal), you would have no qualms with painting the sidewalk red with a “cute widdle baby wabbit”

Now I know that people would say if the person got out of the car then the Momma Rabbit might have got scared but it's absolutely alright because of the human intervention the Crow wouldn't have hurted the Baby Angel and after that the person could have given the Baby to his/her Momma.
