I actually liked reading about creepypastas when I was 12 but jesus christ- hurting another human being (especially a best friend out of all people) never even crossed my mind once. So no, reading creepy stories online isn't an excuse to murder someone else. Those girls are fucking insane and I hope they never get out of prison. God forbid what they might do as adults.

Unfortunaltely it’s a real hit or miss on how well parents keep tabs on their kid’s activity online. Something I come across often is one of two things. Either, the parents see the internet as purely a tool and not nearly the diverse and boundless world of virtual interaction as it has been for awhile now. Or, they’re overprotective parents and still end up at odds when trying to understand their child. For older parents, it’s more likely for children to understand and better handle technology. This isn’t in defense for the suspect’s parents but rather wishing that there were ways to convince/teach parents healthy ways of supervising their child’s use of the internet. This may be handled a little better since the start of the pandemic now that everyone has to depend on online interaction but before then, there really isn’t enough parents who tried to adapt to technology despite its major influences on children today.

I went to middle school in Wisconsin when this happened, I was in 8th grade. Almost everyone was talking about it, I remember slender man being very popular in Wisconsin at the time. I had a friend that was equally obsessed with this fictional character, my parent's forced me to stop talking her after they found out what the girl's did to their friend. Most people got detention if they even mentioned slender man. It was crazy, it was something we were forbidden to talk about.

its not the parent's fault. it's always easy to blame the parents. The kids just saw a story online and believed in it. That's how it all started. Even one of the mothers said she was going through her child's tablet and always watching her. They saw no warning signs of violence. Like you said, just because a child is taught not to hit somebody it doesn't mean he won't do it

My parents have these friends theyve known since I was a baby. They have a son who a couple years younger than I am(I'm 40). About 18 years ago I just had my first born son who was like 2 weeks old. My parents called me and told me their friends son got convicted of doing unspeakable things to his newborn baby who at the time was barely 3 weeks old. He sodomized her and beat her. She had a broken leg, fractured ribs, her skull was cracked and he had injected her body cavities with citronella oil(her vagina and her anus). The tiny baby girl was in so much pain she was howling and foaming at the mouth. He got sentenced to 47 years in prison no parole. I remember my parents telling me this and at that moment I was looking at my newborn son sitting next to me in his swing wondering how in the hell someone could do that. My parents friends kept it hidden until they couldn't no more. It gained alot of media attention and even though they lived in a different town. It would make it on the news in our hometown. They told my parents when he was a kid he use to go through like a dozen of hamsters, guinea pigs etc that were pets. They would mysteriously die. For some reason they missed that big ass sign that something was clearly wrong with their kid. Some parents only see what they want to see and will rationalize "odd" behavior.

Morgan absolutely does when she learns to get a better hold of herself and her surroundings after being on meds for a while. She was schizophrenic her whole life and had no idea and this case actually got her diagnosed. She saw and heard things that werent real everyday and could not discern reality from fiction. I am absolutely not surprised she stabbed her friend because she thought slenderman would hurt her and her family if she didn’t, ive heard of unmedicated schizophrenics doing worse. Only someone with schizophrenia could ever understand the absolute confusion and chaos she was enduring that entire time before she finally was diagnosed and medicated after the police realised. I’d imagine it would be like being on drugs and living through some kind of surreal, trippy dream.

Pleading insanity isn’t always a get out of jail free card though! You’ll go to a mental institution filled with actual nutters, and may not ever get let out unless they say you’re sane! They have padded rooms and strait jackets and all kinds of drugs they can administer! After 40 years in there, even if you were sane going in, you’d probably be mental by the time you’re being released! If you watch a film called Bronson, about an English prisoner who’s been locked up most his life, he went to a mental institute and explains how it’s not the easy ticket he thought either! It’s a good film with Tom hardy in it and it’s a true story!

I'm not sure about the US but in South Africa (I'm South African) the purpose of prison is not just punishment but rehabilitation. A lot of our prisons have programs for rehabilitation like counseling and educational opportunities. A lot of the prisoners leave prison with degrees and have a chance to live a better life. They are given the chance to make sure that they don't continue to be a menace to society when they get out. The choice is theirs. These two LITTLE girls will get the help they need as they are both mentally unstable. They need to be in that institution so that when or if they do come out they aren't worse than before. Well, actually, the James Bulger case you can't really compare the cases they were VERY different. Yes Jon Venables did re-offend, however, Robert Thompson has not, and by all accounts is thriving and has not committed a crime at all. The physiologic implication of locking a child away should be what jundge here. but you need to look at the UK and how they reform child killers vs how America treats child killers. The UK look at how do we save the child and the USA looks how do I punish this child. In the UK is has worked.. in fact you will find that over 90% of cases this has worked..

Other than children committing the crime, as in they are under the age of 16... these are absolutely different crimes, 1) two boys age 10 from very horrible poor backgrounds with terrible abuse Kiddnapp a 2-year-old from his mother in a shopping mall and murder him. 2) Two 12-year-old girls from middle-class American backgrounds, watch a movie and trying to please a character in a 'movie' ask a friend to woods where they attempt to please the said slender man stab said friend and she survives..... SO no there is nothing the same about this.... This is not liberal garbage.. its hard facts that children DO NOT understand their actions. Scientific facts, physiologic fact. Locking children away doesn't help them.... You are making them worst if they are mentally ill at this young age. There is no chance for rehabilitation for some of them I agree. But why would you treat all 'CHILDREN' the same? No crime is the same, therefore children who do these things need speical circumstance. For example, the children who shot and killed their father and girlfriend because of years of abuse? Catherine and Curtis Jones : got 29 years Or the two boys who killed their father because he abused them Derek and Alex King got I think less then 10 years. HOW is that justice ?

@Clairecnz 6 жыл бұрын

Mental Health is the cause here for these two girls. WOuld you rather they just be hung in a public forum or stoned to death. Mental illness is not real. Very Nice what do you mean, “mental illness makes you unable to feel empathy”?? Mental illnesses aren’t the sole cause of murders and stabbings and crime in general, you know...and LOTS of people live with mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. and you don’t see THEM trying to kill people. It’s the media that portrays mental illnesses in that light, but most people living with mental illnesses are perfectly normal people that happen to have a condition I’m not trying to argue with anyone, but you shouldn’t make generalizations like that based off of what you hear in the TV. Because who knows? Your best friend or your mom could be living with a mental illness, and they wouldn’t be trying to kill you. These girls just happened to be VERY unwell and had twisted minds. And most mental illnesses aren’t like that, especially if you have proper treatment for them.

French Vanilla um no! They checked what they were looking at online and monitored their internet time as closely as possible. Tons of kids are in to things like horror stories at that age, and you can’t possibly expect any child to act on that. Morgan had schizophrenia that hadn’t been diagnosed at that point, and she really thought this could be real cause of her visions that she often experienced cause of her condition. She has been receiving treatment since then it’s a good thing they were sentenced to a mental institution instead of an actual prison so she continue receiving treatment, and has the opportunity to bid for parole in a few years. The important matter of all this is, is that the little girl miraculously survived. One of those knives actually tore through the tissue of her heart and was like a millimeter away from an artery and if that artery would’ve been hit she would’ve been dead within minutes. And now that little girl’s family can probably now feel like they’ve received justice because both girls have been sentenced.

She was only honest with me coz I seem "like someone no one would believe or listen to". It was like watching magic, seeing her turn on and off her facade. She KNEW how to work on people, one time I asked her why she would not accept direct help from people but do the opposite and help others... she said "I always help out first so they owe me. Whoever helps first onesidedly will be remembered for it, you can make more excuses for future mistakes that way. I don't like accepting their offers coz I will owe them. Whatever help I need from them I handle it where they don't realize I am benefitting" She scared and fascinated me. Like seeing a wild animal up close. I started distancing myself from her and luckily she felt no further use for me since I wasn't popular or influential enough to matter in her ring. I will never forget her soulless eyes and her calm demeanor despite the messed up stuff she says. I wish she wasn't the way she was, coz she was probably one of the best people I knew before I realized it was all an act.

Depression, bullying, the sorts of things you might be up too... people can hide their feelings extremely well. This girl could have shown some early signs that should have been noted, but when it comes to your own kid, no one’s first thought would be that the reason they’ve been seeming a bit angry or distant lately is because they are planning to commit a murder- especially when they r so young.

The media and sociaty want more from the parents, but what more can the parents say or do now? Wouldnt wish this upon any parent who loves their children.

The problem is even after the fact she is still trying to make her daughter a victim, refuses to take any accountability in this. How can you not realise if someone you see every day has schizophrenia? She never expresses remose or regret towards the actual victim, never even mention her once. It actually feels like she is angry at the victim for somehow making her daughter in trouble.

It would be understandable if they really missed some early signs. But she fucking stabbed her "friend" 19 times to please a fictional character. That's not some bs early stage with some vauge and missable early signs. Her parents either ignored some obvious signs in an active phase, or is just neglegent

You should all be ashamed of yourself. This girl obviously had problems before this happened. Not that it excuses anything, but this girl was literally crying out for someone to listen to her. Bravo to Payton for trying to be a friend to her. What happened to her could have been prevented. Her friendship with Alyssa was toxic and shouldn't have been allowed to continue once the trouble started. I believe she is sorry. I also believe she is thankful that Payton is alive. We ALL make mistakes in this life.

@michaelwalden 💯 right! These people don't know the real story they just read the headlines. They have more hate running through their veins then Morgan could ever have in the tip of her little finger. Morgan's also a victim and no one can see that. 😥 Morgan's dad Matt passed away a couple days ago he died with an extreme broken heart. 💔 Most all people in these comments will laugh, now how sick is that? Morgan loved Bella still does I'm sure of it. Morgan's rare onset childhood schizophrenia took over, cheered on by another (Anissa) to feed her own love for Slenderman and the proxies., who has since been released.

So sad, but shit like this happens frequently and can barely be prevented. The children were mentally ill and mental illness doesn't show up with a bang, it shows up really slowly. It takes time for people to notice it.

That's not always true. In this case I think this was likely gradual, but just to warn you for, you know, life and stuff, people can and do "snap." It's not often, but it happens.

Actually stuff like schizophrenia can appear out of the blue and it does often especially in teens. I've known a guy who was always very funny in a weird way, making jokes and when he started getting symptoms everyone thought he was just joking when he would say he's possessed and stuff. And for a while it would be just those jokes that he'd snap out of after a minute and then he just snapped one day. Thankfully he didn't kill anyone and is okay now but it can happen overnight especially if something traumatic triggers the illness to appear(in my example the guy was moving in with his girlfriend and remembered how his dad packed his things and left him and his mum when he was a kid) so it all depends on the situation. Sometimes you really can't notice it until the person just snaps.

Anita Posa So he didn't "snap". Like you said he started acting weirder and weirder slowly until you realized he wasn't joking. My sister has Schizophrenia so, I know how it goes.

I’m disappointed in the people in these comments who clearly don’t know all the details in this case. Morgan had schizophrenia which hadn’t of been diagnosed at that point. And as a symptom of schizophrenia, you often experience these visions that can appear to be real but only you see them and she actually thought she saw him once but wasn’t sure if it was real until her friend Anissa showed her this, and was enough to convince Anissa that he was real. I’m not in any way trying to excuse their actions because they still at the end of the day tried to kill their best friend. But I’m saying that it’s a good thing they sentenced the girls to a mental institution instead of some sort of detention center. Morgan has been receiving treatment since this happened and is starting on making steps towards improvement. So how would locking them up forever be anyway helpful if she has a mental condition that’s incurable but can still be treated so she can one day be well again to be able to go back out into society? The important thing in all of this is, is that justice has been served in some sort of way and that girl’s family can probably feel better knowing both girls have been sentenced. And these girls are lucky that she even survived in the first place cause if she hadn’t of then I’m pretty sure the sentencing would’ve been a lot harsher if he had.

I have true empathy for Morgan. She suffers from an incurable brain disease, schizophrenia in such a young child is rare, unfortunately she'll be in a adult state mental hospital for 40 years being a lab experiment with trial and error dangerous psychotropic medications that will end up killing her because of the long-term side effects. This was a beyond heartbreaking incident. Anissa has been released. Paydon thank goodness is thriving in life now in 2022. Has Morgan falling through the cracks of a state mental ward? As everyone wishes. I surely don't! Everyone deserves a second chance when they're 12 years old. I hope she has a caring and compassionate staff of physicians and psychologists in a safe thriving atmosphere. The stigma of mental illness in children needs to stop, any age for that matter.

I know I’m kinda crazy for this. I loved creepy pastas as a middle schooler and immersed myself in dark vibes and edgy middle school culture. I like legit fantasized becoming immortal and being a vampire. I still never killed anyone and have no desire to do so ever. I still don’t understand how Anissa went through with stabbing “Bella” and I feel for her mom so much (because what are the chances that your kid isn’t in an edgy phase and is actually a premeditated killer). Almost all kids that like edgy content and goth themes and dark worlds don’t become killers. It’s just a shame Anissa made the choices and friends she did.
