7:07 ‘Fight and you may die. Run and you will live at least awhile. And dying in your bed many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance to come back here as young men and tell our enemies that they may take our lives but they will never take our freedom!’ - William Wallace

The most impressive thing about Henry III was that he managed to reign for as long as he did despite not being particularly competent. Edward I was actually a badass King for the era but his son was just crap. Edward III on the other hand was somewhat of a legend.

I’ve heard of the legend of Robert Bruce & the spider. According to Scottish legend, Bruce saw a spider trying to attach a web to the ceiling, it succeeded on the seventh try. This inspired Bruce to fight the English for a seventh time, & he too was successful.

Very interesting videos. In England/UK there is too much focus on WW1 and WW2 in education and documentaries and not much on post-Roman to Tudor periods unfortunately.

I always love to watch about the English and British monarchs, one of my favorite topics is about House of Hanover, Saxe-Coburg Gotha and Windsor. After 1707, when England, Scotland & Ireland joined in one union (Great Britain).

3:27- Ironically, probably said Romans turning to Christianity and not wanting to be villains. Even the narrative on Pontius Pilate is different where Western Denominations portray him as a villain while Eastern Denominations portray him as a reluctant official who repented.

Hello Mr. John Ruddy I am from China and seek clarification on your informative video. I have question on why you included the jews in your video? Are any Plantagenet or Anjou monarchs of jewish descent or you thought it would be interesting to include the jews on video about england. Why also exclude groups of people that were also expelled and treated poorly like Romani or Irish? With less than 5000 jews being expelled from england at the time I fail to see the relevance for english history video. You also forgot to mention how the jews were the only practioners of usury in England at the time and that was against the laws of the church. They also killed jesus and speak ill of him and Mary in the Talmud which you seemed to misrepresent in the video as the Romans killing jesus. Nice video Johnny and I look forward to seeing more. Love from China.

The Romani weren’t expelled until the time of Henry VIII so that’ll come later. I included the Jews to add context to their expulsion and to point out the sad repetition of history in their repeated persecution. Despite their small numbers, they were an important part in European history and would’ve been odd to leave them out entirely. Regarding who killed Jesus, dude was crucified under a Roman regime. Yes (according to the gospels) the Jews called for his crucifixion, but it was the Romans who oversaw it, regardless of whether or not Pilate washed his hands. That detail worked well to absolve the Romans who would later adopt Christianity.
