One popular channel today said it could be a category 4 or 5 storm. Whenever I watch channels like Levi's though, I don't see that realistically playing out. Categories don't really matter too much though, as the wind, rain, and storm surge will still cause extensive damage over a large area. What people need to know is who's going to get hit the hardest, and how they should prepare.

Thanks Levi, I've been waiting for this video. I saw a video by Accuweather a couple days ago warning that there were all the elements in place for formation of a tropical system and that people on the gulf coast should be getting prepared because conditions were right for a major hurricane. There was a LOT of scoffing in their comments. That it was a big "nothing burger". People dismissed the models that showed possible formation of a tropical system, coupled with high ocean heat to a greater depth to lend fuel to a forming system. A few of us who understand how these gyres can spin up were concerned, but the majority of commenters were mocking them. I hope those people don't live on the Gulf coast, or if they do, they're paying attention now despite their scorn.

@OutruntheWind3 ай бұрын
It should be noted that while it's hard to take them too seriously before the storm has even consolidated, most of the hurricane models are showing this coming ashore as a high-end cat 4 or cat 5 storm. This doesn't mean that it will for sure be that strong and it's good not to panic, but people on the coast should know that a storm that strong is not out of the realm of possibility, and you should be thinking about readying your plans and property for it. Again, it's too early to take those models seriously and things like shear from the upper low could disrupt it, just keep in mind that the upper limit for this storm is potentially very high, and prepare accordingly.

Just coming back to these Helene forecasts since so many people as a part of the aftermath are saying it "came out of nowhere"... this is the five day out forecast you can see at 11:15 that has the tip of SC, western NC/TN area dead center of the forecast track. People need to pay attention to these types of forecasts, meteorologists, and climate scientists rather than throwing hands up and acting like after the fact no one had any idea these events were coming.
