Watching this live was insane. Mondo is in a league of his own 🎉

This was a historic moment that we'll probably never see again in pole vaulting. Ain't nobody gonna break that world record any time soon, except maybe Mondo himself. That 6.25 is untouchable just like Usain Bolt's 9.58 in 100m. Those are the kind of world records that get broken by one particularly talented individual and then remain unbeaten for a long time.

Also, where is the press. For an achievement of this magnitude, the number of reporters is just sad.

This press conference probably happened at around midnight, most of the reporters would already have filled their stories and would either be in the bar or in bed.

The best question to Mondo was asked bybthe Greek reporter. "Tell us: are you human?" It feels like he is goat Jordan-like, like competing only with himself and being a level above every other human. So impressive, the perfect high jumper! When a performance of an athlete makes proud all humankind and not only his country, he is truly special and the goat, like Jordan in basketball

Read that the US organization is kinda top controlled and the selection process is done by knock out. Things that Duplantis Sr didn't like, Through the Swedish mother they had contacts with Swedish track and field, whom Duplantis brother was already competing for. This would make qualifications easier and allow the father to continue coaching his son as he pleased. Also opened up the European championship.

His father is american (and a former pole vaulter) and his mother is Swedish. He is a dual citizen so he qualifies to play for either. He wanted to play for USA but Swedish coaches approached him (they knew of him as one of his brothers played in Sweden) and offered his father a coaching position (I believe it was said that this isn't allowed in the USA not sure but for some reason they weren't going to ask as something isn't allowed) so he went to play for Sweden. He has been playing for Sweden a few years now and splits time living in both countries.

Can someone answer what depth is in pole vault? He changed it from 70cm standard depth to 62cm. It was clear as day to anyone watching, but none of the announcers explained what it was? Anyone know? Google is empty on the terminology!
@NOHOPHOTO4 ай бұрын
I will try...there is a 0 point where the crossbar sits. The vaulters move it forward or back depending on their speed and size of the pole thru the progression. The top of the arc can change as you tire or go to a strliffer pole at increased height. It's a bit like a long or triple jumper moing their start mark forward or back if they aren't hitting the sweet spot of the board for the take off. Hope that helps.
@riley45454 ай бұрын
Thanks….hard to believe they missed that on the NBC broadcast when they clearly needed filler material with the 6 minute pauses at the end of the night. Would have been nice to watch them make the adjustment before they hoisted it up. Also nobody pointed out that the display that shows the depth and height, had it’s brand name emblazoned on the lavender; the biggest coincidence in sport perhaps “Mondo” displays.
