I'm glad that this pedal works for you. FYI Blackstar developed specific software to make it ‘play nice’ with Ableton’s looper (which you must be using), however with other DAW's it's practically useless... still, you shouldn't have to press a button twice to perform a 'stop' function like you do in your video. When the switches are in momentary mode the lights should come on 'momentarily' but they don’t, they stay on, which is ridiculous. My Blackstar control software won't even talk to my pedal anymore, the switches are all stuck in toggle mode, even though I have set them to momentary in the software and attempted to ‘Send Values’ to the unit. I have asked Blackstar if it's possible to do a factory re-set, but no reply. The controller software is very poorly conceived and buggy. Clicking on a switch in the GUI and then selecting a tab (e.g. CC) doesn't necessarily correlate to the switch that you have clicked, you have to click the switch a second time to make sure that you are changing the info related to desired switch. This device does not play well with Logic Pro at all. I can't use MIDI learn in Logic Pro (as you are doing in Ableton) as this device sends random messages to the computer, despite what I have programmed it to send. I wouldn't mind but Blackstar advertises this as a fully featured MIDI foot controller, but it's not. It's extremely limited in function and best suited for controlling ONLY the devices that they mention in the manual.

Hi Nigel, What DAW are you using out of interest? I didn't really use the ableton patches they provided, for me, it was just a matter of switching the back to custom and changing the switches to momentry with a 0 off / 127 on value. The ableton looper sort of works more like the guitar pedal versions with the 2 tap stop tap and hold to clear etc. but could be mapped for a one tap stop if needed. That said this is only relevant if the software works for you, if that's not sending the correct values to the device they I can see why you are having issues!

Hi there, I’m trying to use the MIDI through option in my chain which is Live Logic (MIDI out)-BeatBuddy (MIDI through)-Boss RC-505(MIDI in-out)-Live Logic (MIDI in) but can’t make it work. I’ve used this connection on other pedals like Yamaha MFC10 and Roland FC-300 and worked flawlessly. I’ve set it up several times in the Live Logic App, MIDI through on/off but nothing, is not letting the signal go through, any ideas please? Thanks in advance!

I have recently purchased the Live Logic Midi Controller. I can midi map and record a clip, but when I hold down the switch, or double tap it, or single tap it again, the recorded clip restarts. I am unable to stop the clip or delete it or record a new clip. The Blackstar owners manual does not explain this functionality at all, unfortunately. I have updated the firmware but still no improvement. Any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this issue?

Does anyone know what foot switch I can use for a Silverline Special, besides the FS-10? I don’t like that pedal at all. I just wanna switch channels and banks. Seems like almost anything would work. Hi . I just bought the Live logic midi foot controller . I'm facing an issue . Whenever I am midi mapping any of the buttons on live logic foot controller to any parameter on the Ableton Live , as soon as I let go of the button on the foot controller , the parameter on Ableton Live turns off. It only stays on till the time I am pressing on the button of the foot controller , even though all the settings on the software are exactly the same as mentioned in almost every tutorial online . Please help

hey man, just go to midi settings in preferences and change control surface to none, but keep in and out to blackstar. it should work then. got this from another comment in this video. i hope it helps!!

Hello Hello I set up the live logic controller with Ableton live 11 in custom mode . I have footswitch 5 and 6 set to scroll up and down the sequences of my live session set and footswitch 4 to play them. I wanted to have the footswitch 1 to toggle on and off the speaker of my kick track but it is like a latch mode I have to stay pressed on it if I want the track off . How can I manage that? Hi, I have a question. I want to control the Boss RC-505 looper station , very basic CC messages but have to be “momentary” switches so I don’t need to press twice. So it will send a message when press and end when release and same thing when I press again. Does this pedal work like that? Thank you in advance!

@@V4D2 , don’t know what you need it for but in terms of MIDI I would say the MC8 will do more than enough for any serious player! Not everything explained in tutorial ps yet though. If you get it you won’t regret it.

I have the switches set just like your for notes, but Ableton keep recognizing them as CC. I've updated firmware and sent values but no luck. When I set a button to "none" it works correctly, it's just not recognizing the note values. Any thoughts?

Had the same problem. Switch off the Control Surface (Blackstar) in Ableton Settings but keep In and Out. Then it will recognize the correct values... I needed 1,5 hours to find that out. (tried everything...) ... For me it was "toggle" not working. Then I recognized that it only receives CC0 to CC2 3 and so on... only switching the control surface off made the clue... unfortunately the nice bar counter looses its function I guess...

hey nice video i have a question, i just purchased the live logic, but i run in to some problems, when i use it with my line6 helix to recall snapshots, it works fine but everytime i turn the live logic on i have to go in to the sorftware load the template ive created and press "send values" again for it to work again, am i missing something. hope you can help

try a firmware update twice in a row and make sure you see the blue progress bar complete. If not then contact Blackstar customer service and they can help you out and get a replacement for you.

For that price point I'd expect it to have a guitar audio input like the Xsonic devices to be completely stand-alone..... Since you'll still need and audio interface for your audio input I think the most affordable option is still the Behringer FCB1010 because it already has 2 expression pedals built in and twice the amount of switches, The price of this Blackstar is higher than the price of the FCB1010 + a Scarlet Solo (or other cheap interfaces like Behringer U-Phoria or Presouns) and you can do the same and more

Fair point, I think for me the comparison against the FCB1010 was its much more compact and it works out the box, I always had issues with the FCB1010 integration with ableton wise VS this which was plug and play and easy to edit - the expression pedal is a great feature on the FCB1010 though

@@MondoLoops first of all, thanks very much for the video. i saw the other one u made on the Looper, and it was good too. 3 questions : Please forgive me if i am making too bold of an assumption.... but.. the Ableton mapping u did.. Wouldn’t it be as possible, as it was with the blackstar...to map that same approach, with any other pedal ? Just as long as Ableton receives the CC messages, and u know their number, u can map any of them to any of the MIDI map-able buttons..correct ? What i mean to get to..is that the script allows for a lot more than what u used it for, right ? A few months ago, i got a Harley Benton MP100 controller and i struggled with mapping it to Ableton exactly due to that Momentary-toggle issue. i dove into the settings...and the problem lied on the hardware itself..as it didn’t allow for a seamless switch between modes. But....had it got that option...one wouldn’t need the Ableton script...nor the software to make it work. anyway...... I’m looking for a MIDI pedal controller, for my DAW/setup. Namely Able! (and also Logic) Is the Blackstar’s ableton script,,. that much of a game-changer ?? 2. can u not map it to sth a little bit more challenging...like navigating the session view clips, arming tracks..delete clip loops and overdubbing..for eg. i am looking for a pedal that will let me be away from the desk, while i ‘navigate’ my multi-instrument setup, mainly for recording in studio. 3. do u know if one can use two pedals simultaneously? i like this pedal...but i need more switches.. I recently purchased one of these Blackstar Live Logic USB MIDI Control foot switches. I want to love it, but I can't seem to get it to work for me the way I had hoped. I saw in this comment thread that updating the firmware twice helped some people. I tried it, but no discernible change. Here's the problem: it only sends CC0-CC5 signals. I change it in the software, to send notes, or change from momentary to toggle, for example. I sync it, and it says it sent the values. But I don't see any change in Ableton. What am I doing wrong? Any ideas? Thanks.

Took me a while to figure this out too... By default Ableton recognises this device and loads the Blackstar Live Logic custom script that does the fancy looping setup... if you don't want this and you want the Live Logic to send the Custom MIDI values you set through the Blackstar app you need to stop that script being used in Ableton Live. To do that, go Preferences, MIDI and on the Live Logic MIDI Controller row choose Control Surface: None instead of Blackstar Live Logic. Then the controller won't go into its "special Ableton mode" and you can use the Custom MIDI values you've taken so much time to choose in the Blackstar app :-)

@@MondoLoops thanks.. i was able to fix my main problem with an Ableton Version upgrade seems like 9.5 does not support the firmware update ableton features. I've been trying to map it now to Loopy Pro HD... I got it working with my rc505 as well with a basic assign, but unfortunately i don't think i can get CC#1 to do a momentary toggle, and a Hold (to Clear) on the RC505.. which would be awesome.. thanks for your help if you have any other tips i'm listening!

I bought a Live Logic pedal. Even if you read the instructions carefully there are things that are not clear. It's in the creation and management of configurations and banks. I use Ableton, and I would like - Create a new configuration dedicated specifically to loopers (for example sending notes that I would assign to these actions in MIDI assignment, 1 looper per switch), ok for creating the config and saving the xxx.bstarmidi file. - load the new configuration into the pedal without deleting the default for ableton in order to be able to switch between the two configurations. Is there somewhere a detailed explanation of the procedure to follow? I can't get a clear idea of the banking system (Patch and Custom), the basic instructions are too brief. Do you have the answers to my questions? Is there a more complete guide?

Hi there - if you look at my query in the comments on this video, you’ll see I too have questions on how to operate this foot controller. First off, in Ableton you must use Custom mode, as Patch mode does not work in Ableton. So if you were hoping to access the 127 banks in this controller, unfortunately you are out of luck. You are limited to the 6 switches in Custom mode. For me, my needs are quite simple. I want to midi map to clips and simple standard functions in Ableton. I am struggling with stopping and deleting recorded clips using the foot controller. Have you figured out how to do this? Double tap should stop a clip, and holding the switch down should delete it, in theory. I can’t figure out how to do it. If you know, please let me know! Hi. To get around the problem in Live's MIDI preferences we have "Live Logic MIDI controller" in input/output, if you select "none" in the first column instead of "Blackstar Live Logic" while remaining in custom pedalboard mode emits MIDI notes that can be easily mapped in Live and squeezes the default template in Live. I use it for loopers among other things. Afterwards, if we transpose these notes we can have several configurations which we select by playing on the transposition (with an external box which transposes as we want it can be very practical). Obviously we don't have any light feedback on the status of the loopers for example but hey... The ideal would be to create scripts in python but you need to know… If you find a solution via Ableton to do this, I'm interested!@@michaelsauve7797

Hey, didn't have this sorry, I mostly used the custom mapping but I never had issues - sounds like the cable and port is fine if it works in ableton! I'd call Blackstar or get a new unit as that doesn't sound right, best of luck!

A midi foot pedal.....What can it do that my Roland FC-200 can't? Seems like a good price, but what makes this better than the MIDI foot pedals currently avaulable?

I think for me the benefits vs the FC-200 was size (subjective here, but it fit better with my set up) and ease of use with Ableton / Laptop integration, it's plug and play with the official Ableton mapping and their software plus USB is how I use it.

@@MondoLoops Seems solid, just wondered if I was missing something. Also @2:08 you describe the "pc" option as changing pitch. It is actually for "Program Change" which is used to cycle through programs (sounds) on a synthesizer, drum machine etc. Every clip in Ableton has the ability to set the "Progam Change" number as well -which opens up even more possibilities.
