I have a fondness for Cezanne, we hiked up to where he had a refuge and painted Sainte-Victoire. There is a little house where he lived that has been turned into a museum in Aix-en-Provence and it's a fun place to visit.

Lovely to see all the beautiful paintings. Monet wins hands down for me, I love his use of colour. The gardens at Giverny where he lived are so lovely. I realised while there that he was very influenced and had his own collection of Japanese wood block prints. His water lilies and bridge with wisteria also comes from the same influences. But the paintings up close reveal all the lovely colours of the water and the flowers. Thanks for taking us along.

I especially enjoyed seeing the "round" painting by Monet 😍 But I also love going around Paris - when I tell you that I was there in October 1966, you can understand, it's a wonderful reunion!! I have seen Monet's museum and garden, it was in Giverny - a GREAT experience - probably in 2010 ❣️ - in addition, I have the most wonderful children's book about his paintings! You are so kind to take us back the the l'Orangerie, such a stunning Musee. I spent many hours walking close to Monet Nypheas, it was as though I was in the water with them. I always was told Manet was the father of Impressionism! I guess he was in his time. He encouraged the painters to reach out from the old norms, thus Impressionism. Now Monet is! Oh I so hope you keep going to all the Museums. Paris is the capitol of great Art. What do they do at the Jeu De Palm now? I saw Olympia there. What a thrill. Great to have a rainy day in Paris.

I thought I had visited every museum in Paris, but somehow I missed Musée de l'Orangerie! Claude Monet is my favorite painter. His landscapes take me to another world! I was once stranded in the middle of Place de la Concorde. We went on foot to get a close look at the Luxor Obelisk, and traffic picked up to the point that we couldn’t get back across the traffic circle! We finally got a break in traffic, and were able to get across, but it took a long time! I wish we had known that we were near Musée de l'Orangerie! We were able to visit Monet’s house and gardens in Giverny. That was the highlight of my trip to France! I could have spent the entire day at the lily pond, despite the rain! I enjoyed being in the French countryside. I’m a farm girl, and I found Paris a bit overwhelming. Fields and farm animals are more to my liking! I would like to return to France and visit the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, where my cousin is buried. He was killed in action on D-day. I was with a large group of people on my previous visit, and had to follow a set itinerary. Someday!
@ruarifinn8 ай бұрын
The American Cemetery is one of the most beautiful, peaceful, reverential place I have been. I imagine if you have someone there it would be even more so. My dad survived WWII. A visit there made me appreciate even more those who sacrificed for freedom. I hope you will make that visit one day. When you do, take in the Musee de L’Orangerie. It is much smaller and less overwhelming than the Louvre. I love Monet, as apparently many people do. The oval room where the water Lillie’s are displayed was very busy when I visited. I would love to return when it is less busy.

I have no one favorite artist, all those paintings speak to me in different ways, the one common theme being a passion for painting, and the need to share a very personal vision of what it means to be alive. As someone who painted for nearly 50 years, and lost their muse, I'm trying to lure her back for one last painting. Thanks for reminding me of the joys of pigment on canvas.

You know ,I almost think his rough draft paintings for water lilies should be in this museum , not in San Antonio Texas., so people can view the evolution of his water lilies work . As long as I can remember the rough drafts have been in the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio Texas.. Mrs. McNay hosted many prominent artists of her generation and according to my relatives, Monet spent time there. I am not sure if he painted the drafts there. put it is possible .Mrs. McNay's huge rambling mansion/villa , built to resemble the Alhambra Moorish palace in Spain. had several large ponds and fountain pools were full of pink water lilies. It was a' great place to play when we were kids. It is a wonderful worlds class museum now. Thanks you for posting a museum tour in France, his inspirational home.

Lovely place to be on a rainy day in Paris. Thanks for taking us along. One of my favorite museum memories is the Monet Exhibit at the Boston Museum of Art. Brilliant and a real lesson on perspective. That said, it is not possible for me to think of Monet without thinking of Turner. Turner may be classified as a "Romantic" but to me his later work is pure Impressionism. Can't help but wonder if we would have the Monet we have come to love without Turner's influence on his art. For example, compare Turner's 1846, "Going to the Ball," with Monet's 1904. "Houses of Parliment." Obviously Turner's later works are a favorite of mine. Thanks to you both for a lovely time pondering brush strokes and light.

Verelegantly put together and reflective of your admiration for the impressionist movement. Yet, somehow, I have always struggled to be touched or impressed by those paintings which often seem to be a touch clumsy and formulaic and are only saved by an interesting blending of appealing colours. There are so many more beautiful paintings by gifted artists from all over the world, like the Spanish , Dutch or Italian masters who truly touch my heart and soul.
