You’re so right - we all take the same journey together. We have to be ok making a lot of “terrible” art as we improve. The more terrible art you make the less terrible art you make!

Great video on value. Thank you. This is definitely something I have to keep thinking about when using color. Your black and white photo of the pastel colors is a fantastic tip. Thanks again.

Great instructional video on such an important topic. I learned a great deal. In the future can you explain the use of warm and cool colors in conjunction with value. Also how do you determine what colors to use in your predetermined palette? Love all your videos.

So cool to see it all come together step by step! I know now that I need more intense darks in the last painting I did. Should I "touch it up" or leave it be! I have a photo so think I'll tackle it with some darks. Thanks Susan!

Linda Kriegel ... it's always hard isn't it? Trying to figure out if we should keep working at our paintings. If you haven't built up too many layers already, it might be nice to add a few more darks. I'd love to see it!

Great tutorial! I really appreciated you going over the values and now you picked the pastels. I have to ask, I got some different kinds of pastels and I don't see the light colors in 48 to 72 sets of pastels, are they not used in sets? I was wondering if you ever grid some pastel and mix with white to get a powder color like mixing paints?

Sorry, meant if you ever grind some pastels and mix with white to get a powder color like mixing paints? I am struggling to keep it from being a big muddy blob. I loved the final painting.
@monetcafe
@monetcafe 6 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried that Syd, but I'm always experimenting! I used to struggle with getting my paintings too muddy and overworked, but the best thing for me has been to just practice, practice, practice. And of course watch many other pastel artists and how they work. Check out our Facebook group if you like... Monet Cafe' Art Group. There are so many artists there all helping each other. :) You have to ask to join, but just answer the questions and say that you heard about the group from me personally. ;)

Are value and tone the same thuni?
@monetcafe
@monetcafe 3 жыл бұрын
Not quite… Here’s the difference: Tone is the degree of intensity or strength of a color. ... Value describes the relative lightness and darkness of colors in a composition. White is the highest value and pure black the lowest.
