Kudos to JR.!! Breaking the cycle of poverty isn't easy & he had the ambition & drive to fulfill his own dream. Also being grateful & humble in not forgetting where he came from. There's been challenging times living in the Phils that I became thankful for having my own problems/issues when I see what a very hard life it is for the majority here.

I commend his resilience. We all get knocked down in life, some of us way more than others. And a very, very few of us get the full knock out blow time after time after time. The only reason I’ve found for this apparent injustice is that we are an example to others. However we, the consistently and constantly beaten down are also an infinitely tougher vessel than those that crack and break under a little misfortune. In the face of insurmountable odds and a lifetime of knockout blows its our conviction to keep getting up that matters. I am asked why, I tell them it’s easy to get knocked down, I let God do the heavy lifting of getting me back up and moving. I again commend him for his resiliency and applaud his example to many.

General truth is: Filipinos are very hard working people. It’s not like other countries in the world that if you work hard, you get penalized with paying huge taxes. But if you have nothing, the government will provide you from education, food stamps, medical, child care, etc etc! If you have more kids you get more money from the government even if you’re not a legal citizen. So, Filipinos have to strive and work hard to earn and make a living to survive. That’s why there’s a huge gap between rich and poor. But not all Filipinos are poor! Also, if you marry a Filipina that has a good job, educated and doesn’t rely on their husband’s income, your perspective might be a little different. I am a Filipina who grew up in a middle class family. I’ve worked hard to get my education and graduated college being a working student. Married a foreigner for 30 years now. I make my own money and we live comfortably and planning to retire in the Philippines soon!

This is another lie filippinoes like to spread. Hard working? - seriously? The most irresponsible and lazy people. And don't spread this "pay well first and then they will work" - no they will take the money and do nothing. Hard working pinoy yes it does exists but extremely rear. There are some OFW who lived and worked abroud long time. But real pinoy and hard working it is a lie!

I really appreciate your videos Paul. You provide a valuable service and people respect you and your work. Each morning you and I have coffee together on my front porch as I watch your latest videos. Here is my advise for you… don’t move out of the Philippines. I know things always looks greener somewhere else, and sometimes we seem to get burned out . I get it. But like me sitting on my front porch thinking about the Philippines, I know that I have a family here and this is my home. I know that I have people around me who respect me, and count on me. Unless something drastic happens in my life, I probably will never retire in the Philippines. But just in case I do, I want to be able to count on you being there, so I can sit across the table from you instead of having an electronic device between us. Northstorm Tom Michigan

I recall two famous people (both of whom are parents) who believe in giving their children knowledge, encouragement and guidance instead of money and material things. I feel if you continually give your family (or extended family) money to help with their needs you are only teaching them how to be beggars, which is not why I’m here. Fyi I already had this conversation with my Filipina GF and made sure that my message got through loud and clear and it has. Since then life here has been great!

Have you heard anything about a Foreigner gaining Citizenship in the Philippines? Someone mentioned to me today that if you have lived here for 5 or more years, are on a 13a Permanent Residency Visa and are 60 or above, you can apply for Citizenship here whilst retaining your original Citizenship, as well as qualify for a Seniors Card. I asked on an Expat forum years ago and was told I would need to renounce your original Citizenship and would then lose my Pension. I was also told that only Filipino's could apply for Dual Citizenship, and a Senior's Card. It was against the Law for a Foreigner to possess a Seniors Card here. Again, the advice was given to me via an Expat Forum today. I am unsure as to where to start my line of questioning regards this here to gain a qualified reply and begin the process if it is indeed correct, that we long term Expats living here Permanently can apply for Filipino Citizenship.

Just to link back to talking about migrating elsewhere, keeping in mind your wife's familiarity with the Phils, I have to say the best you can do for her is learn from the most savvy business people where she's a local. Forget about doing the same as what anyone else is doing crab style, there are niches you as a foreigner will notice unfilled, a local won't. The combination of international business insight & local nouse= new opportunity.

A very humble man, he's a guy that you could trust you little kids to be with any time of the day. I'm also brought up the way he was. We were so poor when growing up, eating rice with soy sauce as a biand. Sometimes, I can't have rice and substitute with corn. My parents work so hard and still can't afford to buy all the necessities. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to migrate to the USA by way of our brother career in the Navy.

My wife went to 7 11 store and came across a 10 year old girl, Then my wife sat down with her and had ice cream with her along with my wife friend. Then, things led to putting her in school. My wife went to her grandmother's place, where the girl was living in a shack dirt floor with her brother. the kids there were abandoned by their mother. The girl name is keran, and now she lives with us now. Now karen is happy.... short story....

The state universities are inexpensive. I went to one of them and I only paid $3 for the whole semester for miscellaneous expenses. Our class was 100% board passer for electrical engineering, which is considered an excellent standard in the country.

My destiny is to FAIL right here in southern California. It's so FU*CKING expensive to live here in retirement you better have a few million in your 401K! I only have a few hundred thousand so I guess it's the Phil's or BUST! I have seriously been considering if it's better to live on the street in a nice Walmart tent like many people here or move to the Phil's where I could get an apartment for $400 bucks instead of California's $2,100 a month price! There are a few benefits to homelessness which is NO rent and if I move to City of Oakland they give homeless $400 a month not to panhandle in their city.
