My personal tips: 1. Multipurpose items are the way to go. Receiving blankets can be used for pretty much everything, and can be bought for pennies at consignment sales. Dont buy a cover exclusively for the changing table pad, and the grocery cart, and the car seat, and breastfeeding, and... (fill in cloth accessory here) Use a receiving blanket, a regular blanket, a clean cloth diaper, or even a hand towel. They may slip and slid, but your baby is going to be tugging on the specialty items and wiggling free of them anyway, so it's not that different. 1b. Dont buy all the stuff on the nursery "necessities" list you get online or from the store. They are only there as advertisements to make you buy more stuff. This is tied to the first point because I'd say about 7 out of 10 things on that list are superfluous or can be covered with a multipurpose item. 2. If possible, buy generic. The vast majority of the time generics are as good if not better than name brand. Case in point, my kids broke out in horrible rashes from Pampers and Huggies and Seventh Generation and a handful of other brands I tried, whether sensitive, natural care, or normal. The Up & Up Target brand was about the only thing that worked for my kids to keep them from having horrible rashes. Which leads me to my next point... 3. Dont commit to any brand without trying it out first. When I was pregnant, I read all the posts and talked to all my friends and decided exactly which brand of diapers I would use. I bought a huge pack because buying in bulk is cheaper per diaper... and then my son was allergic to it. I was in denial for a while and tried to soldier on, telling myself it must be something else because "the research said..." but it wasnt something else. It was the "perfect" brand of diapers I had chosen. Honestly the best research you can do for consumable items is get as many sample packs (or small quantity packs) as possible and try them out on your baby. That's why my go-to baby shower gift is 5 small packs of different diaper brands. I almost always get a stiff smile and an "oh, thanks..." because the momma-to-be has already researched and chosen her "perfect" brand, which rarely lasts more than 3 months. You may need to go through a period of un-learning everything you researched and thought you knew about babies because your baby is one in a billion and no anecdote or consumer report will ever fully apply to him/her. 4. HAND ME DOWNS!!! Sorry, I shouldn't yell, but seriously. I know she references this, but I will reiterate, get everything you can from friends and family. About the only thing I would be wary of getting used is carseats, unless you really know and trust the person. You dont know if the carseat has been in a crash and the structural integrity is compromised or damaged in some way. 5. Stock up during sales. This includes basics that only go on sale once every 3 months, but also future needs. Stock up not just for the size your baby is in now, but also the size they will be going into next. Because they will never hit their growth spurt at a convenient time for you to buy the next size up on sale.

Making the decision to cloth diaper has saved us TONS of money. I got all my cloth diapers from my baby registry and I made my own cloth wipes using dollar tree baby washcloths. We buy one small pack of diapers and one small pack of wipes every month as emergency for sickness or travel or whatnot, but overall not having to buy diapers and wipes regularly is saving us big time. Not to mention wayyyy kinder to planet Earth. A tip I would give is to register for items for the older baby/toddler as well. I registered for lots of bowls, plates, spoons, sippy cups, convertible car seat, sit up style bath seat, etc. That way, I wasn’t left buying everything for my older baby, who quite frankly needs more items than the newborn. Not everyone thinks to do that.

A coworker registered for gift certificates for a diapering service. $30 gets you 150 ish cloth diapers for a week and a diaper bucket. Pick up from a front porch or stairs and the service will wash em for you. Not bad for the $$ and impact.

Same! Lots of the baby clothes are sometimes brand new because new parents are gifted so many clothes that most never get a chance to wear so they end up donated! I remember with my first son, I had way more clothes gifted then he was able to wear and so I donated them, and now 7 years later I am sue with a boy again and I decided to thrift all the clothes for new baby and I've found most of his wardrobe brand new at the goodwill for $1 a piece!

Tip for formula that I think is really important!! My son is on Similac Alimentum (insurance won't cover it) which is roughly $40 for a 19 oz can. Target does A LOT of sales. They'll do buy one get one 50% off or buy two get a $10 gift card. Along with those sales, you can stack Similac checks and coupons! We've purchased two cans, used two $10 Similac checks then 2 additional $3 Similac coupons!! Hopefully this comment helps someone save some cash!

I was at a baby shower recently where a mom mentioned that gender specific items for girls are actually more expensive than the neutral or boy items. So even if that pink version is way cuter, you can save by choosing the neutral option.

I buy lots of stuff used or even new on Facebook market, 5 miles, offer up and let go. I paid $25 for a bouncy reg. Price $89.99 brand new in box that way. Also I have found Facebook groups in my area called buy nothing (city name/area) ex: Buy Nothing Central Houston. And I took up extreme couponing, still learning though. My fav tips were the toy rotation and the frozen dinner ideas. My son is in Tball now and it takes time from cooking dinner and getting him in bed in time for school. Love all your tips and fully agree with them. Currently pregnant with our 3rd baby. Although I will say, I loved and still love my nursing tops. I nursed both my girls till they were 18 months old and for night feedings those nursing tops with the clip saved me. I did however try the shirts with the hole in it, not a huge fan. I think I used it once and found it to be a bigger hassle than just pulling my shirt up. But for those mamas that want to nurse their babies; I used a nursing cover for both my girls (the Pancho type) and have yet to regret it. I tried using a little blanket, then a receiving blanket and our first would just pull it off each time without a fail. So I finally caved in and bought a nursing cover! Absolutely fell in love with it, I was easily able to use it to cover the car seat and my self when I needed to pump on the go. Since then, I have continued to use a pancho nursing cover. I typically buy them pre-loved. A lot cheaper, or if you're crafty you can always make your own

To make baby food even easier, just take a bit of the veggies you’re making for dinner and throw them in the blender (before adding spices and such). This doesn’t take much time, baby gets fresh food and the rest of the family eats a little healthier because there’s sure to be veggies at every meal.

Same here! When my son was first born I was a brand snob. As he got older and his intake increased I switched to generic and saved so much. OMG! Miles is a doll! Great tips...even for grandparents! Gevalia is great too! Amazon has a mom program, haven't checked it out though. I sell my grandma baby stuff on FB or Craigslist & buy from there too. Selling clothes by the bag or box is a good idea & selling quality tennis shoes is a good way to recoup original costs. I provided 1st 2 years of diapers for each grandchild, but couldn't find great deals anywhere til I started couponing. Now I pay less than $5/pack. Meal prep the baby food & a couple meals for adults at same time. Lastly, exhaustion levels out around your 50's, but it depends on your activity level & whether those little babies grew up to be independent responsible adults too. Love ur channel!

Yes! I was determined with both my boys to breastfeed. When I had my daughter in 2005 my mom talked me out of breastfeeding cause she had weird issues with anything that could be deemed sexual. She’s since come around. Anyways, with my first son my milk never came in. He literally starved for 5 days before we figured it out that he was barely getting drops and broke down and gave him formula. The disappointment (the word doesn’t even describe it) brought on worse post partum depression. I got pregnant right away with another, miscarried and then got pregnant again right away. 3 pregnancies in 2 years. With my second son I had an extremely low supply and he had GI issues. He ended up on formula as well, we went through every brand. Earlier this year, at 2, the pediatrician finally diagnosed him as having an allergy to dairy, soy, wheat and a slight intolerance of peanuts. Notice those foods are pretty much all they give you on WIC with exception to eggs and juice? I’m pregnant with #4 and praying for a supply but am trying to just be prepared for anything. There’s no worse feeling than that of believing your body has betrayed you. Sorry that was so long! But I’m a believer in “Fed is Best” as the presumption that breastfeeding comes naturally and easily is a HUGE misconception!

The dr made me introduce him to formula on Monday and I may or may not have fallen into a depression because I “failed”. I really needed to hear this from other moms 😢

I just saved 50% on Nestle Good Start with Probiotics formula... since they are repackaging/renaming, a lot of stores are marking the "old" ones down :) Another mom informed me when we were out shopping and I had it in my cart, she was like "Go to Save On! For formula- my son had to be on a special formula because he had allergies and the insurance company had a program that would ship it to my house monthly. this formula was like $30 for one of the small canisters and I would get something like 15 a month or something (this was almost 10 years ago now, so I can't remember super specifics). But if you encounter that, look into your insurance company! I believe we had to get a dr note, but still.

It's so much easier shopping for used kids clothes. Plus with daycare then I don't care as much if it gets stained or ruined. My daughter became jaundice because she wasn't getting enough of what she needed from me even though she was latching. But at the time being a new mom I felt so stressed out and wasn't taking care of myself and I think that played a huge factor in not being able to produce enough. I just wish I would have stopped trying sooner and switched to formula.

We use generic formula. Our pediatrician said it's the same thing just a million times cheaper!!! Plus certain grocery stores have their apps with coupons which helps you save even more. People give away free formula all the time online too... Mom groups etc. Thrift stores are really great for toys and books. I just got my son a lot of stuff for an extra 50% off yesterday at the thrift store. So a toy that would have cost me $30, was only like 3 or $4. My biggest tip is always check your grocery store clearance section. They're constantly putting baby stuff out.

To help with diapers before our little one was born the guys had a "diaper party" which is like a baby shower for the guys. They all brought a box diapers and then they got to drink and do guy stuff lol. It helped us out so much! Also if you use formula I wait until target does a baby essentials sale and can usually get $15 back off of $100. I also use that sale for wipes and whatever else I may need at that time plus using my red card I get an additional 5% off everything.

Buy baby/toddler clothes in “lots” on Ebay or from a FB site. I got smokin’ deals when offering to take all the items the person was selling vs being picky. $20-$30 for 50-100 clothing items was the norm. Sure, some items weren’t “my style”, but send those to daycare for backup clothes (or extra clothes for the diaper bag). Several times, the items were given to a friend’s kid or random mom at the park who forgot an extra outfit. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Toy rotation is something I learned for myself when I was like 8 years old. We were super poor and I didn't know the other kids got new toys, I would hide my toys and find them again after weeks or months and would fall in love with them again 😁😁😁😁

I was not tired at all when I was younger but as soon as I got to 20 I have been tired all the time and I am still tired not in late 20s. Cloth nappies saves money. Even if you only half do it. Not buying baby things that you don't really need. Don't open all you nappies up as babies grow quick so you can take them back if needed. Don't buy loads of newborn cloths as they grow quickly. Get baby grows with a zip as you'll use them the most. You don't need loads of hats and socks. Don't buy baby things before your baby shower as you might get doubles and some people will want to buy certain things, like a car seat. Have a push over of a sister that will buy toys. (I am the push over auntie) You don't need a new pram as you can get a lot cheaper second hand that are like new. Same with a lot of other things. Pre folds make great sick cloths and you can stitch some together for baby to have tummy time and you can always dye them nice colours. Cheap and washable. Ask for other people's baby clothes that their kids has outgrown. Newborns grow quickly. Same with toys. You can even swap toys for a bit.

You forgot to say..SHOP CLEARANCE RACKS!!! Seriously clearance is JUST marked downs that didnt sell!! Esp when babies outgrow stuff soo easily...clearance allows you to shop ahead of time since most clearance is post seasonal wear! And sometimes you can find everyday wear that will be in your babies sizes like onesies or outfits

Vanessa N I make my own baby food. Carrots, cauliflower and peas I steam and than put them in the blender. I roast yams, butternut squash and beets, than purée in the blender. I also make beef or chicken stew in a crockpot. I add onions, celery, carrots, yams and green beans. Once the meat is cooked and tender I use a food processor to shred everything. I started off blending everything smooth but now that my baby is older I keep it chunky. And I freeze every in cube trays, store in ziplock bags. Hope this help 😊

My boy is 2 month old and we bought nearly everything second hand. In Germany we have some cool Apps to use. We saved so much money 💸✋👌but I don't acree with is eating pizza and convenient stuff... Because ✋ environment... I mean Plastic etc is a huge theme nowadays... So me or my hubby cooked just huge portions or noddle gratins and I made homemade canola bars for something on hand everytime. Angela Kewin yes you’re not entirely wrong! But the way the vitamins and minerals and DHA, etc are processed and made are not done equally. The source of the proteins and carbohydrates make a huge difference. Some formulas are processed through Hexane which presents another slew of problems and debates. Not all ingredients are created equal- therefore, not all formulas are! We did extensive research and found that happy baby organics is very high quality! It’s also available at target and we love getting it there because they do the buy $100 get the $20 gift card every so often and when you buy in bulk you end up saving so much money and we just use those gift cards towards the next batch of formula!

Skip purées all together and go straight to table food at 6 months. Baby lead weaning is the way to go. No prep and you get to introduce baby to all kinds of foods. Just no honey.

I love buying used, but after having my 6th now I kind of want to buy some things new. Like a portable plug in baby swing. I have gotten used swings but they all sucked up battery power like crazy and didn't work long, so I used them manually. Now I want to buy something that works so I can homeschool my older kids without bopping around the baby the entire time, hoping she will sleep or not wake up or something. Oh, and I love sales at Carters! I just bought a Christmas dress for my baby that was clearance $4 from $35! I don't know how!

Kroger grocery stores (such as Smith's) have the best frozen pizzas I've ever had. if y'all have a Kroger store (any grocery store selling Kroger stuff) try one of each type of crust they offer and find the one you like best (all are good, I like the thick crusts, though). Also, I LOVE Gevalia coffee I use it all the time unless they're out of stock, basically, at my store lol.

Buying the big items second hand is the best way to save money. I bought a bassinet for my newborn second hand and resold it for the same amount when she grew out of it. So the only cost to me was some energy and time to scrub and clean it when I bought it and before I sold it.

Just get all used things , only thing u need is diapers and wipes. Try to get state WIC for formula. Some states also gives out free diapers . Ask parent friends , they got tons of stuff to toss away ,

Don't assume your baby will like all baby products. Borrow them is great tip too. My child hated the swing. Some don't want to be Johnny jumpers.
