Hey Nadine, you should check out Maps.me Its an offline mapping app which also gives you turn by turn directions. One of my favorite apps for traveling
@A_Vicious_T-Rex8 жыл бұрын
google maps actually has an "offline maps" mode where you zoom in and out to save a set square. if you zoom out to put the entire city in the square then it saves the whole city. you can then zoom in and out and still be able to read street names and get directions wthin the pre defined square.

I always load the HERE Map onto my phone for the country I'm going to. It is free and accurate enough for me to find where I am and where I'm going. For larger cities I also download the CityMaps2Go map. It gives me additional information including public transportation - this can be a godsend. Needless to say that you should also invest in a portable USB Battery. Modern phones likely will not last a whole Day of Traveler use, and the best Apps will be useless if your phone is dead.

Great travel hacks Nadine! Another hack - find local travelers groups on Facebook... they often have leftover currency that you can trade with them at the actual exchange rate. (Just pay it forward and do the same for someone else in that group.)

Hey Nadine! I love all your videos and useful tips and such. I'm planning on doing backpacking next year for the first time. I've been watching your videos for about 12 hours in the past 48 hours. So thank you. It's given me so much! A video I haven't seen/may have missed, is a documentation video. I'd love to see a video on documents/visas/etc you may need based on the country or length you're there. In one of you're packing videos, I saw you had a medical form for vaccinations or something. As well as a huge yellow bifold folder full of documents you needed. If you cannot make a video on this/don't think it would be useful to make an entire video on, I'd love to hear back from you!

For GPS... Get a proper offline maps app. Here maps is available on all phones, and allows you do download an entire country's map beforehand. So, so underrated. There are a few others, but I find Here best; it used to be owned by Nokia so had a lot of investment into it.

Another money exchange hack is to change your money at casinos! They don't charge a fee for the exchange and typically offer good rates because they want you to then go and gamble that money. I did this in the Philippines and I got a better exchange rate at a casino in Manila than I did at my local bank at home in San Francisco. Crazy!

Can you trust Ebates though? I have had cashback before on odd things like buying a tablet. But not sure I trust it to book a holiday. That could go horribly wrong. Also can you use it in the UK? Seems more a American thing.

Does my hack count? I wanted to use the toilet at Liverpool St. station, but it was 20p entrance (29c), so I watched for a staff member to leave the platform and followed them. They led me to a staff toilet which I used for free. The staff member actually walked past it so they were not going to the toilet as I thought, but no matter it worked.

Amazing tips. Too bad I can't enter the giveaway but still going to sign up for an ebates account. Along the lines of buying admission to sites beforehand, some cities offer passes to multiple sites that you can use over a few days. Often they save you money on the admission price between all the valid sites, and might come with a guidebook and discounts at restaurants, public transit, or shops.

It's free to go into the basicalla, but the line is extremely long and you'll wait a few hours. If you buy a fast pass ticket, you can skip the line. But entrance itself is free. You do have to pay for the Sistine Chapel entrance though.
