Hi! I just have a general question about asking about salary and pocket money when talking to host families. I get into good conversations with some families and they explain basic responsibilities and accommodations, but I do not know how to bring up the topic of how much they pay a week. I do not want to sound rude or greedy by asking early in the conversation, but I also need to know so I can plan accordingly :)

Is it possible to pay for things in cash in Paris? For groceries, entrance tickets, in cafés/restaurants, etc? I went to Amsterdam last year and discovered that they require you to pay with a credit card in most places, even including some supermarkets, so I just thought I‘d ask if I need to prepare myself for something similar in Paris? I do not understand why you have to pay for the kids with your pocket money! The family give you the money your pocket money is yours!

Hey! Do you know anything about host families paying for your french course? I recently signed up to become an au pair next year, and I thought you could study for free but after further investigation it appears not hahaha so I'm curious about them at least paying the French course and I can see about university later.

Hi there! A lot of families do pay for it, I guess just take a look into your contract or if you're traveling with an agency, take a look at their policies!

@@aupairohparis6083 it is not a question of policies or agency, it is a question or law. The au pair must pay for the courses in France. Some families would pay but this is not mandatory. Get informed!

Hi, I'm in need of some advice. I'm from Australia and I want to Au Pair. I want to stay for max 8 months but I have a dilema. In Australia, we don't have an Au Pair Visa (that I'm aware) so the legal way to go overseas and work is of course a Working Holiday Visa. The problem is that visa is valid for 12 months- but only allows max of 6 months working (out of 12 months stay) and max of 3 months with the same employer. this means that I can only Au Pair for a max of 3 months, which seems too short a time to me and the chances of a Host Family going thru the whole process with me for only three months... (might not be sufficent time to connect with kids and family blah blah blah). I've seen other Australians offer to Au Pair for much longer than 3 months but idk how they can. Hope this makes sense :)

Hey, I know you asked this a while ago, but I thought I'd reply anyways. I'm not sure which Working Holiday Visa you're applying for, but if its the subclass 417, then the original condition was that you can't work with the same family for more than 6 months, but they recently changed that. Just google "working as Au Pair in Australia for more than 6 months possible?" and you'll find the new ruling. I'm also going to Australia in 2 weeks and I know that the whole process can be really confusing, so please feel free to message me if you have any questions. :)
