I love practicing #frugality and have been #minimalist for years. I often film our #budget reports every month and like to talk about #savingmoney, especially with #inflation so we will use #reddit #reactions to learn lessons from other people's experiences. #aitareddit #aitareactions This story is about the way a woman's husband buys groceries.

Yessss, me either. It's a bit sad that she didn't realize how much of a pickle she was in until she got everyone's outside opinion. I think that realization of random people on the internet mostly saying he was wrong really challenged her moral code.

I would have a BIG problem with this! I love the fact that you considered that the husband may have had some trauma that has led him to this behavior, and for that part maybe he is not TA -- however it sounds like he is shutting down her concerns, telling her she is overreacting, etc. That is always a red flag to me. Also, his lack of compassion for the people who really do need the food from the food bank is worrisome, and the fact that he is deflecting the blame back on them by saying "they should have gotten there earlier" is really troubling. The fact that he tries to "look poor" is a clear indication that he knows he is doing something he shouldn't be doing. And his family? Oh no, that is really messy. They need to chill. Overall, this is a mess. She has voiced her opinion about it and husband and family are showing their true colors. I would really be carefully considering if I could stay in a relationship with someone who had such a drastic difference in values from mine. I don't think she is the a double-s hole in the slightest and she is smart to be thinking so carefully about this and setting some boundaries.

This seems like a trauma response because usually our tr don't make sense. It's so wild he's not hearing her out because when people show you a mirror you should adjust. OMGGG yes the "looking poor" is so guilty and makes me feel like it's not trauma, especially after throwing the food away, makes it seem like he's just being evil on purpose. I wouldn't be able to continue this relationship personally, I have really strong lifestyle ethics. I'm pretty sure these people aren't vegan and throwing away any food is bad because all of the labor that has to go in to source food, but throwing away nonvegan items hurts my HEARTTTT it's like those animals passed for no reason. Aye aye aye. It makes me so sad.

Wife is definitely not the asshole, her husband needs therapy. I would also need space if my husband was knowingly being an asshole taking from low income people and not only that but wasting the food.

I'm sorry. I'm not one of those people who is like "divorce over anything", but as a person in poverty I could *NEVER* stand to be with someone so selfish, trauma or not. The fact he takes food from the poor and most of it gets thrown away is downright *DIRTY.* I don't care what problems someone has, i'm not staying with someone eho lacks all compassion for people who literally *CAN'T* buy food like he could. And just shoving off ideas of donations and charities? Like, are you serious??? How am I expected to stay with a man like that?????

The absolute hardest part to deal with is throwing it away, like omggggggg. But food is SUCH a necessary thing for all humans so it's WILD that he is not getting it, has no guilt, doesn't care how his wife feels, and is not changing his thought and behavior. This story was so baffling.

Wow!! $200K and going to a Foodbank and then letting it rot. That's crazy on so many levels. She definitely not the A-hole. It would be interesting to learn how he's benefiting from going. He doesn't need the food but he gets something out of going maybe it's the thrill of taking food away from others who could use it. There have been high wage earners that have gone to food banks. But it's because of job loss or unexpected financial emergencies and not something they were proud or ever dreamed that they would be forced to. Trauma or not, he's a major AH.

LOL on so many levels. I'm reading what you wrote in my voice and it's so funny. We had to use the food bank our first year after getting kicked out, get up so early, take a bus, wait out in the cold, it is not fun but we were so grateful to have had that service until we were able to get our bearings on how to live on our own in our first apartment. I think you're onto something about his intentions though.

@@JaciniaPerez You were smart to use the food bank. I know a couple of people who need it but REFUSE to go. I went for them because anyone can go to the ones here in my local community and gave it to them. I wanted them to see what kind of things they would get. They were thrilled and had no problem taking it but still wouldn't go or even sign up for commodities for seniors. One of the food banks would even deliver it to their house and they still wouldn't do it. Crazy.
