I have seven 4.5 ft braided money tree inside my house and theyre thriving. Each time I water, I give little. I feel the soil with my hand. I also spray the leaves with water periodically. And I talk to them. Theyre growing so many branches and fat vibrant green leaves. Each of them has branches with 7 leaves.

That’s why I unbraid them a little in case one of the stalks die. Still leave them with a little twist for interest, but makes removing or separating at a later date much easier.

@AnnasViolets 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Caryn. How do you unbraid them a little? They are wooden stems. I cannot unbraid them a little. It's either unbraiding and planting them far from each other, or not unbraiding at all. The wooden stems have their shape and are not flexible. If you set them apart a little bit, the holes and twists will not match any more. Or what do you mean?

My money tree is constantly dropping leaves. Finally, I figured out over watering is the problem. The care card specifically mentioned that the soil should be moist. I have stopped watering and waiting for the soil to dry out before I water it again. I still don't know it will live or die. I trying my level best.

Your soil held on to too much moisture and that is why the roots rotted..it was also too heavy..not porous enough and basically strangled the root system and that is why the roots were so short. You can amend the soil for better drainage by taking some succulent and cactus soil then add some pumice stone, perlite, coco coir. Good luck with the tree. I have plants and I love them all.

I can't seem to get my soil to dry out! I used regular potting mix when we first bought it (the nursery let us pot it using some of their soil while we were there). I could not water it for 2 months and the soil would still be just soaked. So I removed the old soil and re-potted it in some succulent potting mix because it's supposed to be well draining, I even added some rocks to the bottom of the pot so moisture could escape better....it gets closer to drying out now and I have some leaves growing, but it still stays really moist. Sometimes I bring it outside on my deck in the evenings so the sunlight can help dry out the soil but it doesn't help much. I have two stems I think are dead, but before I repot I need to find a soil that won't retain so much moisture.
@AnnasViolets
@AnnasViolets 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Megan, it's definitely the quality of soil, but maybe also try to water it less? If the two stems are rotten, it's better to remove them as the others may get rotten as well

@@AnnasViolets thanks, I'm going to look around for some good soil as I'm not a fan of the succulent soil I bought. Once I get the soil I'll try to de-braid and remove the dead ones. Luckily it's still pretty young so it hasn't set into the braided shape too much, just the bottoms. My husband and I bought this tree for our unity ceremony for our wedding, so I really want it to live.

@@meganwoehl5277 I know I'm late writing this, and I do hope you got to save your money tree, but I just wanted to add that if your pot is too big for the plant, it means there will be way to much soil in it and when watered, the root system being too small for the big pot, it can't drink up that much from the wet soil. The pot should be one to two inches bigger than the root ball so when you repot it, don't go too big.

Hi Anna, This has been so helpful! We have just had some very hot weather here in the UK which meant I had to block out the sun/light and my money tree stopped growing but I was still watering, and yes, I over watered it, not realising water was collecting in the saucer. And because it was in the dark I was not noticing two of the stems starting to shrink (go wrinkly) and die! I just removed an already dead stem, like you here, which was rotten. I'm hoping I have got in there soon enough!! Can stems come back once they have started to die, but are still green and slightly shrunken and the bases still seem nice and firm? Thanks!

Hey Ashley, Thank you so much for watching. I am so happy that it helps. Honestly, I didn't see any insects coming out of these eggs. But I also had to repot it again and I actually removed the old soil completely, as the rot continued and I had to remove the 2nd stem as well. After struggling for about 2 months, the leaves were opening up all curled, now at least it seems the rotting process stopped, but it still doesn't look healthy

Awe I'm sorry to hear that your tree still isn't very happy 😢 at least you haven't given up on it!! I still have yet to repot my money tree. It was given to me as a rescue, even though I don't really know what I'm doing with the plants I already have. Luckily I seem to be doing something right considering there are now multiple new growths coming in. Now that summer is coming up I am hoping it will make it since I have it outside (in a shady area that still gets plenty of non direct light). As for the white stuff, I've been thinking it is mineral buildup. I've had to stop using tap water, it was causing all of my propagations and many other plants to rot due to having such hard city water. Wishing you the best of luck with your green buddy 🤞❤

Hi Sakilah, unfortunately if the bottom of the plant, basically the wooden trunk is soft, it means it's rotten and in this case I don't think you can save the plant. @AnnasViolets
@AnnasViolets 2 жыл бұрын
The reason for falling leaves is overwatering. But if the leaves get deformed and fall off, and if you notice some grey patches on them, most probably it's thrips. Right after this video, I posted 2 other videos about how to identify thrips, the damage it causes and how to get rid of them. Maybe they will be helpful. Thank you so much for watching

@@AnnasViolets Hi Anna, thank you so much for your response. The plant is around 160cm high. The pot is around 40cm wide and around 35cm high - the pot was smaller before (around 32cm wide and 30cm high) but I've since repotted it. The temperature in the room is around 20 degrees celcius with decent natural (non direct) and artificial light. I'm watering it about 1 litre every 2 weeks. The leaves seem to be dropping since I've repotted it. The only thing I've seen online is that I should have drainage holes in the pot. Instead I put some water absorbing pebbles at the bottom of the pot.
@AnnasViolets
@AnnasViolets 2 жыл бұрын
@@danielgraaf5042 Thanks Daniel. These details help. I think 1 liter with 20C especially in case of a pot with no holes is too much. Your plant can even have root rot. Those pebbles will absorb water, but the evaporation is not good, there is not much air ventilation and the roots may get rotten. So, maybe it's a good idea to water less OR repot into a pot with holes OR put the plant in a warmer place OR everything together :)

@AnnasViolets
@AnnasViolets 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kimberly. When you repotted, did you check the roots? Were some roots rotten? Maybe also check the stems. Are they hard, or maybe one is a bit soft? As for the soil, in my area they are sold mostly in coco coir, so I have two that grow in this kind of potting mix. But when I repot, I usually use a good quality universal potting mix, and add a bit of perlite. I think the most important here is the pot. I have the best experience with these plants, when they grow in ceramic pots with a big hole. Ceramic pots breath, the air ventilation is much better and the soil gets dry faster. I can even see if the soil is moist by just looking at the pot.
@Gojosaturo-Edits

It did not have no root rot at all, so I wasn’t sure what else it could be. Now it only got worse, and I’m thinking the miracle gro potting mix is not good for it, it seems to be a month already and the soil feels damp. So now I believe it is getting root rot and overwatered.

Adding a capful of 3% hydrogen peroxide per cup of water to your weekly water routine will help the soil remain airy & will help prevent root rot. Also adding a cup of diatomaceous earth to your potting soil is a great organic fungicide/insecticide.

Hey Ernnisa, first of all, thanks for watching! Please do not connect the life of a plant with the life of your son. Plants in pots will not live forever, but your son will have a very long and a happy life! :) If the stems of your plant are wet and mushy, they are most probably getting rotten. You can take the plant out of the soil, examine the roots, remove the rotten stems and plant the healthy stems in a new pot. And water just a little bit. Let the soil get completely dry. If all stems at the base are rotten, try to save the green growth at the top of the plant, by cutting the green young stems and putting them into water for propagation. They will give roots and you can plant them again. I sprayed neem oil, dilluted with water
