Further about 600 kms south of ulaanbaatar they are now in southgobi province. The colourful sand mountains are flaming red cliffs where Roy Chapman Andrews found first ever dinosaur eggs and skeletons in 1920s.

Continental Rocks or Ikh Gazriin Chuluu is a beattiful mountain of granite rock formations in the Middle Gobi desert. Around 300 kms south from Ulanbaatar. Apart from unique fauna and flora you can also visit there an open theatre of national long song of Mongolia.

So the man was not soldier but a preservationist. You don't encounter soldiers in Mongolia very often unless you're at border. You don't need to pay taxes in most of places but there is some places like national reservation you should pay and i think you're there so yeah he just did his job.

they hesitated to give 1 USD tax to the local environment protector. Asks and records his certificate, pushed his finger, while checking the certificate. I doubt they gave money to the family. Maybe they gave something like candy or something, then tells them that's what we have.
