Monitor Audio Bronze 100 review vs. KEF LS50 and Elac Debut Reference DBR62

8" Woofer in a $600 speaker. That alone should have most people go out and try the Bronze 100. And having reviewed the Silver 100s, this is sure to have fabulous bass... and it does! Looks quite handsome as well. Seems like Monitor Audio has all the right ingredients for success, but let's not get ahead of ourselves, because all speakers sound great... until we compare it to something else. So let's compare it to the KEF LS50 and the Audiofool's $1000 reference, the Elac Debut Reference DBR62. Will we have a new reference after this? Find out in the review.

Hmmmm....I own the Monitor Audio Silver 100 (for about 1month...still evaluating). Your review of these Bronze 100s fits all the very mixed reviews that I have read about them. I got a killer price on my Silver 100s on eBay, new at $770 shipped no/tax...so with that price in mind I am pretty happy so far...if I had paid list plus tax, maybe I would feel differently.I bought them in white and they are INCREDIBLE looking "to me"!...Industrial-modern design with the grills off especially....Sound-wise I am slowly tuning them in to my room with this new Marantz SR6015........Running 'em 2.1 for music....I am starting to like them a LOT (with and without the port plugs!).

Yes, give them a chance. you got it at a great price and you'd have to spend double to get a significant improvement.

@@TheAudiofool I thought that they were a little bright at first....but I really believe that the speakers (tweeters) actually have broken in...(not my ears), and smoothed out considerably. I also did some tweaking with the Audyssey curves and the sound settings on my Marantz...some room treatments and played with positioning. They are growing on me! I know that you were not thrilled with them...but better than the Bronze, 100s right?

The DBR62 is now $699. It's my favorite Elac, sweeter and fuller sounding than other Elacs I've heard

These are underrated. I got the Bronze 100's and they replaced my go-to Dynaudio and Elac speakers for nearfield listening:) I prefer them over my Elac Debut Reference DBR62's in this price range. Thanks for the great review, as always!

these are cheap here in Australia at the moment , about 1/3rd less than the elacs. thinking there are a great bigger living room speaker for a mainly movie part music setup .

Thanks. Interesting. Andrew Robinson reviewed these Monitor Audio's and he liked them better that the Elac's. It is all subjective as we all know. I have the Monitor Audio Silver RX-1 and to me they sound better that the Revel M16 and the Polk Audio Legend L100 which are much more expensive than the Monitor Audio Silver RX-1. I am so curious about the Kef LS50 and its rave reviews. Maybe one day I will try them at home.

No doubt the bass on these are great, and if you can find them on sale, they'd be great value speakers. I thnk maybe you should try out the silver 100s or golds, instead of the LS50s if you like the RX1 better than the M16s and L100.

Everybody says that Bronze 100 are overly bright, you're the first person in the world that consider them less bright than other speakers. Also, the highs aren't powerful in your perspective, but at the same time mids are also lacking. They have to exclude one another, if you lower highs, automatically mids become richer

Thanks for watching. I agree that changing the balance of the speaker, say lowering the highs will affect the, however, I am not juding the speaker by itself, but against the LS50 and DBR62. And based on my comparision, the highs are not as refined as the other speakers, nor are the mids. I don't find them overly bright, perhaps I have more tolerance than other people, but these are definitely wanting against the ls50 and dbr62.

Im no expert I had bronze 100 And they fukin awesome Can produce very bog sound without struggling One must be real pro to understand what is wrong with them For me they sounded very good

I want a put over the table something that can lead us to know about the accuracy or any audio reviewer opinion. EVery opinion is subjective for every reviewer but i think, how do we know that the reviewer has a qualify ears to give us her opinion if he can hear only up to 12khz or 13khz or less, it means if my assumption is true "he can perceive any gear like speakers as laid back or without highs because he is not be able to listen that frequencies , another reviewer with better ears or he can listen up to 18khz or 19khz is going to have a more accurate review. I think every proffesional reviewer has to show his audiometry in order to show that he has accurate hearing to make a review. Ear's reviewers are the tools for them to evaluate a gear and an audiometry is the way to test him. Give me your opinions. Especially for reviewers that don't show measurements.

These speakers are rubbish and I would avoid. I bought a pair of these and after a year the cones started developing cracks. The supplier denied any liability and said someone had deliberately damaged them. I was doubtful but ended up paying for new cones. A year on the same thing is happening again. They now accept the damage but say they have been over driven. Frankly I am an older chap who seldom blasts the volume so I doubt this. They are just a defective design in my opinion. Don't go near them is my advice.
