Good day Paul. Great video. I m an amateur photographer and to be honest never even thought of calibrating my monitors, but I can certainly see why its important. Do you know if that software will work here in the US on the monitors available here? Also, just curious, I see your office walls are so very nondescript white. Does that have anything to do with color imaging and light reflecting? Or am I just thinking too much? In any case, thanks for the video on this!

Although I've never done this to my monitor at all and I didn't even know calibration was a thing until a couple years ago when another photographer I'm subscribed to did a video on it. When I recently had to print out some photos for a couple friends, of their cats I did for them. I was surprised to see that the prints came out the same as what was on the monitor. I had not even adjusted any of the brightness or colour settings on the monitor since I bought it 10 years ago. It must have been set like that in the factory I guess. Anyway, I say I was surprised, because on my laptop, which I bought in 2006, the screen looks ok to me. I even use an internet photo of a TV programme as the desktop picture and the colours and brightness look the same as when we watch it on TV and I wouldn't want the screen any brighter then it is. But when I printed the odd few photos off it in the past, they've always come out much darker then on the screen. Though one thing I've just thought of, is that I should try printing the same photo off both laptop and computer and see if it all looks the same on screen and on the prints.

Do you have the monitor connected through usb? How is the software recognizing the monitor? I’m trying to calibrate my external monitor with my MacBook Pro and I’m having a hard time. I’m using the studio match but the instructions are way to simple that it becomes hard to know what to do sometimes 😂

Thanks Paul for this tutorial. I have a few questions for you. 1- Most modern monitors are calibrated at D65 (6500K) from the factory. I noticed you calibrated your BenQ at 6500K also. But most cameras aim from 5200K to 6000K as a base; would it be better to calibrate the monitor for a lower color temp? 2- I would like to understand the correlation between the built-in display profiles of a monitor and the icc profile SpyderX build and save in the OS of the computer; which one takes priority? Which profile should be used on the monitor (I use the custom one). Apart from the manufacturer (LG in my case), is there a way to send the calibration to the monitor?

Hi there, greetings from the UK! Just ordered one. My 6 year old Alienware laptop really needs calibrating... 😂 Would i need 2 separate profiles if i do my photo editing half during the day and half at night time?... Cheers!

I've been using SMPTE bars for years to calibrate monitors by eye. It's an absolute nightmare to do it that way. I don't know why I've never bought a Spyder. I think you've pushed me over the edge.

Great video. However, I’m using the same setup with laptop and BenQ external monitor. I have set it up on the laptop and I’m attached to the BenQ but the outline I put the Spider X won’t stay on the external monitor. It keeps dropping down to the laptop (MacBook Pro M1) and I can’t get the external monitor to calibrate. Help!!!

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that e-mails from KZbin alerting us to new tutorials have not been coming through of late. I am subscribed, and the "bell" is set to all.
