That is a really good price and I see it's in stock and available to buy in the UK now. The Asus ROG swift PG32UCDM that I have had my eyes on for ages is available for pre order in the UK for £1350. I will still be going for the Asus model as I do prefer the design, the black colour and the non curved screen. It is definitely not £360 better than the Alienware though (good ol' ROG Tax)

Great review. I've never had or wanted a curved monitor, but due to pricing here in Germany (and availability of models when I finished a new build and needed a monitor) I ended up ordering this. It arrived a week or two ago and I absolutely love it. I thought I'd hate the curve, but it's so subtle that I barely notice it. I only use the monitor for gaming, so maybe that helps. Every time I boot a game I'm blown away, and the build quality is excellent. It's great that there are a bunch of 32" 4K 240 Hz OLEDs that people can choose from to fit their needs.

In Europe, this Alienware monitor is broadly available while the 2 others are not yet and cost 300-400€ more (which is insane). Thank you Asus and MSI, the choice will be easily made. Also, for warranty and RMA, I'd trust Dell more than MSI or Asus.

This is true, I've been trying to find either Asus or MSI but they either don't exist or are being scalped for ridiculous pricing. Alienware may not be the best of the two but its available. The only question now is if its better to wait and see if better options come or to grab alienware before it too becomes like asus and msi, scarce and overpriced.

A suggestion for improvement of Monitor-Unboxed: Please list the VRR range (ex: 60-240Hz) and if the monitor supports LFC (if a dip below the VRR range gets doubled) in your mentions/checklist. It is critical information since some demanding games on midrange GPUs:s seem to hover around 50-80 FPS average with dips/stutter, which could introduce tearing if LFC is not present. It is cheaper to buy a high framerate display than getting a GPU that can drive it at 1440p and up for demanding games 😅 So rather than a checkmark, please put a range (yellow) and mention LFC (green). Freesync Premium and Gsync are supposed to have LFC, but it is difficult to find such info in spec sheets.

me personally pubg on wqhd is a joke. then the ski-lift ropes are a pixes here, and a pixel there. no[!] issues in other games. but since that, my believing in wqhd is gone. shurely fine for text and everything; exept my maingame. I think i will drive it in wqhd, cause due to interpolation or scaling . . . should be a massive improvement already. seen on my 4k TV doing KZbin. A 1440p video is like no difference to a 4k video. Absolutely no needs for this you'll may know. 😊also if not playing pubg, with 4k you are not limited to a graphics card. in wqhd you sadly got no real reasons for uprading to a 5080. how sad(?) Shurely that will happen on 4k too. cause 4k is endgame. no more amount of more pixel or density needed till death. For any human at any time -> to the end of the planets life. Fact also for VR and apple vision pro already. What i wanted to say was: i had uwqhd Acer x34 - never would have anything other. but there was a 'must have' like real 1ms AnD more Hz for my eyes, so i got the Omen x27 with 0.72ms on pixel and real 1.7 GtG for 3 years now. Was hard for me to change on first thought but had to. Aaaand since mine broke and we had two, i had to grab last one from my father, buying him some 32" 4K for 180€. DV should be backwards compatible to HDR10-it’s just a static metadata setup rather than dynamic. And there are a number of set top boxes, Apple TV most notably, that pin Dolby Vision on and simply map HDR10 and SDR into it. I think the culprit is the Dolby Vision Bright mode. That’s not a DV spec-I’m pretty sure it’s a boosted spec Dell put together for bright rooms, similar to LG’s DV Bright Room. Dolby Vision Dark is very likely equivalent to LG’s DV Cinema-ie unmodified Dolby Vision. That’s why the EOTF is basically right on target. The problem there is Dell capped it to 400 based on the HDR TB400 spec. If they’d allowed it to peak at 1000 I don’t think any of these issues would have occurred.
@geoelectric
@geoelectric 10 ай бұрын
Correcting myself, I don’t think DV Bright is a *Dolby reference* profile, it’s a manufacturer-modified one for brightness boost (Game is probably brilliance). DV Dark probably is the Dolby reference profile. And iirc it’s not actually capped to 400, it’s capped to 500-the 10% capability of the monitor. But as DV *content* is supposed to be mastered for at least 1000 nits peak, that was still a weird move.

Trying to adapt to the lower brightness and i am searching the right settings but there are no settings to compensate the peak brightness difference. Picture is from another world tho. Its all like animated and you see what the people who make these games where intended to show on screen. No doubt the OLED is FAR Superior in that manner but BRIGHTNESS is a point where MINI LED is far better. As more contrast your eyes need (older eyes) as better brightness is for your experience. Imo flat panels introduce distortions even at a small 24” size, let alone 32”. After going from curved to flat the monitor looks convex. Which to me is the main question I have for flat panels, why would you not want curved? All it does is bring the super far away edges of your screen closer to you and at a much better viewing angle. Looking forward to your review of the Dell AW2725DF which I have been using here in the UK since 8th February. It's easily the best monitor I have ever owned and showed just how poor the ASUS PG279Q IPS monitor was that it replaced. My only complaint with the AW2725DF is VRR flickering when using G-SYNC. It is fine 90% of the time for games but I see flickering on bright and dark desktop backgrounds as well as flickering on dark grey loading screens and even in the games themselves. I understand this is an issue inherent to OLEDs and although not specifically mentioned in this review I am curious to know if the AW3225QF, with its G-SYNC Compatible certification also suffers from this issue. I have seen a few complaints from people with the AW3225QF about the flickering but it is so new that getting accurate feedback is difficult. However, it does sound like the AW3225QF is just as prone to VRR flicker as the AW2725DF from reading around. It would be nice to know for sure though.

From what I’ve heard, VRR Flicker on OLEDs is an issue on all OLEDs right now. Also in my experience and from what I’ve seen, LCDs also had it, but only with higher contrast ratio panels (VA). I had a Samsung Odyssey G7 and it had a bit of VRR flicker on some scenes. Then I got a LG 27GR95QE-B and it had insane VRR flicker on some scenes, had to turn it off tbh. Now on the AW2725DF I haven’t tested those same scenes, but I fully expect it to flicker aswell. Oh, and GSYNC hardware module doesn’t seem to fix it as well. The 34” QD-OLED G-SYNC also has the flickering issue on some content, seemingly a bit less, but still there.

VRR flicker with dark gray is an issue on all OLED panels (and some non-OLED panels), regardless of GSYNC module. Some people claim to fix it by capping refresh rate 10 Hz lower in CRU. I've not tested it. I just deal with it for now.

@@TH-lo8mq It might fix for their scenario, but it doesn’t fix it overall. I’ve tried most of these solutions. HDMI 2.1, DP, capping refresh rate, changing the Low Framerate Compensation range… there was no fixing it in my testing. It is mostly caused by sharp framerate fluctuations. I’ve tested on Tarkov, which has a lot of dark greys and framerate fluctuations, it flickers A LOT. Only solution was disabling VRR.

@monitorsunboxed in the screen coating section of your video from about 7:10 it looks like the centre of your panel is pretty heavily scratched/scuffed, how come you didn't mention this? There are a lot of comments on Reddit about this being a significant issue caused by how Dell are shipping these with bubble wrap directly over the screen, it seems to be quite common and could be a pretty big dealbreaker if you have to return multiple units to get one that isn't damaged

Could you comment on the AW3225QF display scuffing / scratching that Dell’s choice of a foam screen protector rather than the typical plastic peel leaves on most units? This display damage isn’t typically visible in regular use, but is easily visible in a bright day lit room or with a phone torch and it’s unacceptable for a $1200 premium product. Some US buyers have gone through 3-4 exchanges already trying to get a panel without this packing material related damage without success so it’s definitely a widespread issue.

I think you should also test uniformity with 1-15% grays. This is where this monitor struggles. I tried two units and both have noticeable banding issues in those dark grays. It can definitely be quite noticeable in some content, especially when using the monitor in a pitch black room, leading to distracting dirty screen effect with panning images. My previous AW3423DWF had noticeably better 1-15% gray uniformity, although the AW3223QF is more uniform with lighter colors.

As someone still rocking a LG C2 42" seeing these 4K 240hz OLEDs are tempting. Maybe do a review of C3-C4 as a PC monitor. Neither are much different from C2 so maybe you can do it as a pseudo-rereview of C2 compared to modern OLED monitors. The options since C2 came out are way better and more competitively priced. Also why does C2 not suffer from this dolby vision bug? The only time I've tried DV for gaming was Mass Effect Andromeda and I couldn't get it working. The only time I use DV is streaming content with built-in apps (not PC) and it looks great.

I mean, I currently have dual 32 inch 60 Hz refresh HD monitor for my set up. Yes it is a 1080P monitor and it's a big 32 inch display so you could see the pixels. Definitely thinking about upgrading to a better monitor and this one was perfect because l did not want to compromise on the size of the display but at the same time I want a good quality display with high refresh rate. And this monitor fits everything 32 inches, 4K, 240 so high refresh rate. But the cherry on top is the fact that it's an OLED which is a big deal because I can't get over the fact that my main monitors for my main gaming PC set up are not sharp. And for other people, maybe they don't really care or can't even tell the difference but I could tell the difference due to the fact that I do daily drive a 15 ProMax, 23 M3 Max MacBook Pro 16in, 24 iPad Pro 13in, and an Ultra Watch. All these have OLED displays and definitely there's a big difference between OLED and a regular non OLED display. But the price might be a little steep, but I'll probably just buy one out of the two monitors and it will be my main monitor out of the 2.

Hey idk if you can figure it out, but there seems to be no consistency. After installing the Update, and running windows HDR calibration. I am trying all the various modes and combos to see what/how windows thinks. and in Display > Advanced Display. SOMETIMES windows is reporting Peak Brightness as 1010 nits. Which right now i finally got it back to displaying that number, after many attempts of trying to figure out how i got it earlier. I THINK i was in HDR True Black earlier when i first saw it, but right now im in DV Bright, with windows saying Peak 1010 nits, but it has been more consistently saying 993 nits, why idk. but that is where i have been BEFORE this FW update. i have never had it report 1000 or over, now 1010. I noticed my desktop seemed dimmer after update. so i tried everything out and re ran HDR calibrations. Hope this helps and we can figure out something. clearly buggy still and how its reporting to the PC or how the PC is reading it? one or the other is screwy

Dell monitors always support DDC-CI features, to switch monitor inputs using keyboard shortcuts. which is really needed for my worflow. I would get this any time of the day over Asus or MSI

I just learnt something new too! Google "Dell Display Manager" it uses this hardware feature, apparently you can set all the OSD stuff, and program keyboard shortcuts to switch the input device (into the monitor)@@MagicSnapO

Buying this thing tomorrow. I dont want a curved monitor, but the price benefit in the EU is too much to ignore.

How do you like the monitor? The curve is pretty subtle especially compared to much more aggressive curves like 1000R and 800R

@@JCTiggs1 Mine hopefully arrives today. Not against curves. Getting used to it is another matter though. Games probably going to feel odd and then i wont be able to use flat panels. Much like when you go from say 144hz to 240 and can't go back to 144 because it looks and feels jittery/slow by comparison. 60hz is damn near choppy and laggy.

Got mine yesterday. Better than lg c3 for gaming in my other room. The curve is not that noticeable to me. Enjoy

Hey. I have the aw3225qf but there is something that drives me crazy... There is flickering with G-Sync turned on. It's mainly in situations with gray on the screen like in dark situations which are not 100% black or a little bit lighter. It does happen in loadingscreens too. Is that a common issue for that monitor? Is it a common issue for OLED monitors? I tried it without G-Sync and everything worked perfectly fine. But without G-Sync the games doesn't feel as smooth as with it and have screen-tearing. Could anyone tell me if that is normal and if other OLED monitors (like the Asus pg32ucdm) doesn't have this issue? It's really really sad that this has VRR flickering because if it wouldn't have it, it would be a perfect monitor. I'm thinking about returning it because that isn't acceptable for 1000 bucks to be honest. (Latest Firmware is installed) Would be really nice if anyone can help!

@@Kaudrag33 It has less of vrr flicker but still present. Like 20% better which isnt great because youll still notice it. Its caused mainly by heavily fluctuating frames so either get a beefy gpu or limit the framerate swings by locking the fps below your avg fps and try to keep minimums high. So lower settings or use dlss/fsr i guess? it's 4k downscaled so the games wont look too terrible with it on.

@Andytlp I have a RTX 4090. To be honest. VRR should fix problems that occur with fluctuating framerates, like tearing… But even with a capped framerate the flickering still occurs. The alienware went back to Dell. I tried the ucdm and it indeed had less flickering. But it went back to Asus aswell, because of bad coilwhine (when turned off) and moving scanlines in darker areas.
