So many people including my grandmother and father.. slowly wither away until they have physically and mentally faded away before the died. Davy Jones and Mike Nesmith were still fully functional and cognizant and performing right up until the time of their deaths. That is the way to go.

These guys were the soundtrack of my youth. I watched, knowing this was the last time that Nesmith would perform these songs, and that he would be gone in less than a month. I was doing OK until Daydream Believer, and that's when my eyes started to fill. Nesmith left the stage knowing these people loved him.

The Monkees were on TV when I was born so when the reruns came on in the 70's. I became so infatuated with them and even joined Mickey's fan club that was still being run by his grandmother. They were my first favorite band. They are still in my heart. Blessings to all of their families and Mickey. May the gentlemen (Davy, Peter, and Mike) all be found in Heaven singing wonderful songs with the angels. ❤

I was at the Greek Theater for the last Monkees concert. I didn't know that it was the last concert ever for the Monkees. The most touching moment for me at the the concert was when they were doing Daydream Believer. Everyone at the concert put on their flashlights on their phones. Mickey said ,Wow ! What a sight! Or something close to that. The whole audience started singing the song, including me! Mike and Mickey stopped singing. I looked at my best friend and we both had tears streaming down our faces! It was a special moment! So glad that I got to see them in their last concert at the Greek! Always loved them! They should definitely be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! They are icons! Love them!😎💖😀😄👍

He tried using a guitar in rehearsals but he could basically either do one or the other but not both at the same time so they stuck with the singing.
@jokopheliajazekiel17052 жыл бұрын
it might look great but given his frailty, having a guitar slung over his shoulder for 2 hours while standing up, night after night, would have been hard on him, i think, they can be pretty heavy, especially the larger models like he favoured. Maybe he also found it hard to lift up & put it on and off his shoulder. But yes maybe one or 2 songs, while sitting, that micky sung more of, might have been nice for him to do, one last time, especially since there were other guitarists as back up to take the pressure off him, & to help him manoeuvre the guitar around. But i would assume they did think of all that though, tried things, & figured out what was best.
@jokopheliajazekiel17052 жыл бұрын
@@ericlapp72 i read somewhere that he was even worse at the start, only sitting, barely moving etc, but as the days went on, he seemed to gain some strength - probably feeling more geared up by the audience, but also the boost of 'exercise' from him having been sedentary for quite a while.

I saw the Monkees in 2004, without Mike of course, at The Forum in San Francisco. They were still so good then every song sounded straight off the album, no exaggeration. Mickey and Davey's voices still sounded like when they were filming their show. Their backup band was dynamite and really gave punch to every song. I've been a huge Monkees fan since '66 when I watched their debut show and every one after that and grabbing every album when it hit the stores. But when seeing these latest tours the past few years I can't help thinking maybe they stretched it just a little too far. It's one thing when you can't quite hit some of those higher notes, but when you can't hit any and your voice is cracking and fading out and off key and you can't harmonize then it's pretty much time to refrain from dishonoring the music you did so famously well. And it certainly doesn't help that the backup band stinks. They sound like a bunch of neighborhood musicians practicing in the garage. Seriously, they're really lacking in the kind of sound Mike & Mickey were needing behind them to make up for what the guys weren't capable of anymore. For their final days and last concerts together I really wish they could have had a really worthy band like when I saw them 17 years ago.

Time to let The Monkees "concerts" go Micky. This was kind of sad and pathetic partly because of the FAR too many average and below average songs included.
