MONO vs. STEREO In-Ear Monitors - Which is BEST for Your Band?

As some people also pointed out, another great way to save money on IEMs is with different band members SHARING a mix. So you wouldn't get your own mix, but if you can agree on a mix, you can get the transmitter and a belt pack that is set to the same channel and share a mix. Also a great option! I'm working on a video on "what is the cheapest you can build an IEM setup for." Hope to have that out in the next few months, but have a few other product reviews coming out soon. I'm old enough to remember the 1973 movie Westworld; Yul Brynner fans anyone? We run the Xvive IEM system for our duo. We actually use the aux outs on the 2 EV Evolve 50M PAs to send a separate mono mix to each of us. Since there are only two of us, we are able to use the onboard mixer on the PAs and not run a separate mixer. Certainly a budget setup, but works pretty well and the sound to FOH is great with the EV speakers. Kinda followed your lead on those...

Great information! I built up to a stereo system by using a stereo system in mono x 2 until gigging funded another unit. That’s a good way for younger guys to build their system by using your advice. I’d rather see the giveaway going to someone who needs it and doesn’t already have a system, rather than it just being my spare, so no magic phrase from me this time! Planning on Checking out Westworld because of your recommendation. We run an x32 for our 8 piece band. All but 2 singers are on IEMs. Hopefully we can get them to join the club soon. We use a combination of stereo and mono IEMs along with some wedges. As a drummer the stereo mix really helps to make the kit “feel” better.

I play in a four piece band and we used to use the Xvive U4, it was cool but with two guitars, main vocal, and three back up vocals all centered, everything was too cluttered. We switch to using a passive mixer into a headphone amp, everyone is wired but now in stereo and we can pan! the sound is so much better! I've only seen the first season of Westworld and loved it, I've been meaning to watch the other three.

Just completed a European tour with my IEM rig for the first time, your videos really helped me. Besides routing, I had to figure out a handful of things like power and frequencies for each country but it all went off without a a problem! Back in the Westworld now! Cheers!

Westworld? I remember the 70s film but I've not seen the series. I'll have to check it out. Great video, Scott, as always. It's thanks to you and your channel that I'm amp free (using amp modelling); I'm power free (running pedal board from a powerbank); we're digitally mixed via the X Air 18 and we're running wired in ears. Next step is wireless - two of us have some of the really cheap sets atm but, as you know, they do have their limitations.
