COVID has got be back to modeling. I'm working on the Kellogg #5 Monte Carlo. You've made me review my work and I see I need to improve. Your video here has given me much more interest in paying attention to detail. Thanks for providing a lot of inspiration to do better.

It could be the polishing compound residue. Rule of thumb is primer coat, sand, color base coat( flat), setting solution decals softner, gloss coat, polish and try to stay away from gloss paints as decals dont adhere nicely without some help.

I use easy off oven cleaner sprayed into the corner of the kitchen sink and set the chrome parts to be stripped in it and then cover it with a little more cleaner. 15 minutes later the chrome is gone ans so is the clear costing that holds the chrome. For the parting lines on the roll cages i use a Flexifile sander with 320 grit and it helps me get the lines cleaned of and still have the round profile of the roll cage “pipe”. I also cut the cross pipes on the headers off because those were not used a great deal and only select races. They just happened to be on the car Monogram used fro measuring and pictures. Well so the story goes. 😆

I have heard that about the. Ross over pipes. Jim Rodgers at SalvinosJR is now 3D printing a pretty awsome set of headers. I didn’t think about my Flexifile sander, thanks for that!!!

You asked for a better way to strip chrome. A general rule I use is if after 30 minutes goes by and it's not done, I use another stripping method/product. Not all chrome/plastic is the same so it might take some testing. (That's for "save for info.) Try some Oven Off oven cleaner. I use the lemon scent one that strips my chrome in 15 minutes.
@GrumpyModeler4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that info. I’m going to test purple power this afternoon.

Looking great my friend. Thanks for the tip on the Mr. Surfacer on the bell housing. I use Castrol Super Clean to strip chrome, it works in minuets. Keep up the great work, and have a blessed day.

I've used Easy Off Oven Cleaner in yellow can to strip chrome from R/C car plastics, and recently I've seen people using Zep degreaser, which seems to work near instantly. No first hand experience with that though.
@charlesball99773 жыл бұрын
Like he said, Easy off in the yellow can will usually take it off in about five to ten seconds

Try super clean at auto parts store takes chrome off in minutes. The stuff is a great cleaner also, takes stains outta a driveway. Use full strength stripping paint or chrome, mix with water as a cleaner

I have looked online for reference pics of the motors... i have yet to find anything... i am currently building and Earnhardt 1988 Monte... and i have yet to find anything... where are you getting these reference pics?

Great video, and subject. I will wait impatiently for the next installment, I am curious to see how you address the fit of the firewall. And yes, find reference pictures, sadly sometimes these cars are not as well documented as military aircraft.
