At 67-years of age I'm part of BTS Grey ARMY and I also Love and Support BTS unconditionally. Because of those seven talented young men I'm not sitting at home twiddling my thumbs since retirement in 2015. I had never been outside the USA. At present I've traveled to South Korea several times, visited each of the guys home towns, attended their concerts in Asia, Europe, North America and South America. Contributed to charities or participated all around the globe. BTS has that effect on a person. I'm so proud to have them in my life.

ARMY is waiting for the 18th and 19th April when BTS is releasing not one but 8 live concert videos for free in their KZbin channel Bangtan tv. That is when their world wide concert tour for this year was going to be stating ,but due to the Coronavirus the concerts were either cancelled or had to be postponed for the time being, the amount of money they will be losing on that world tour is astronomical. They aren’t concerned so much about the money ,but are concerned about ARMy who were so looking forward to seeing them, so they have decided to play 8 different video concerts on that weekend. It is all about ARMY ,always has been and always will be. Their CEO has the same mind set and knows the more they look after their fans the more dedicated ARMY become. 💜

Best thing about being a fan of bts is observing how the members grow with their discography. Although they were consistent with their messages and what kind of artists they wanted to be since the beginning, they weren't always so confident in themselves. They had problems with their self image or they used to fight much more often with each other. When they came up with the love yourself concept they were criticized by nitpickers for being too cheesy. But personally it was so wholesome to watch all their content, and see them really internalize that message. They truly changed with those albums. It made an impact on me too because I am the same age as them. Sometimes I'm surprised to see how my mindset changed after going through love yourself area with them. We were able to see their change because they are so open and genuine with what they share with us. When they had all these problems in their early days, they never hided it from the fans

21:21 They are super open and we fans are very observant. Most of the time, we find out about their charity work from the people who have received their help, they themselves don't go out of their way to tell us they've done this or that. But we see what they do, and we hear about it from the people they are working with, they ended their sponsorship relationship with PUMA recently and fans think that it is because it supported israel's illegal grabs and they quietly moved on to FILA instead. They have partnered with VT cosmetic a company that is known for their work in elderly employment. Hyundai is another sponsor that has been pushing philanthropy as well for children and elderly communities. And we find out about this stuff by researching, and reading between the words because they don't come out and tell us but see it, and the people who receive their help sees it. Also during their concerts, they even had a sign language expert that can translate for the hearing impaired people in the crowd. If I keep going I will be here all day but Yes a lot of this stuff is what we observe and research and what the people who have received their help tell us about, they do not tell us with their own mouth but we see it.

*Let’s be real: If you took the story behind BTS - it would make a bombass anime.* I’m 26. Australian. And while I haven’t been alive very long, BTS is the first time I actually felt excited about music. I’m an immigrant and I’ve struggled with finding music that resonated with me. Trendy western songs were pushed onto me (but alien) while my native music also didn’t connect (something I still mourn). Pulled in two directions - music was like something I heard underwater: muffled and blurry. The HEALING philosophy behind BTS’s music was the first time I actually connected to an artist. Not just through the audible sound, but through the feeling of the art they were creating. It was like someone yanked my head out of the water and I could finally hear shit. They don’t really have a concept (like what you read), but if they did have one - their ‘concept’ is BEING HUMAN. A teacher from my collage had described them as a ‘cultural movement’, not a passing fad. I 100% agree. I’m glad to see you exploring the behind the scene, background info on the boys and their company: like I said, it sounds like some underdog movie stuff. The struggles BTS faced away from the camera is what makes them so ‘quietly shocking’. This facet of the band is what makes them categorically different from all Eastern and Western artists right now. I think you’d be really interested in the speech the CEO of Bighit made. He made a speech at the university he graduated from as an alumni - and what he talked about was unexpected. Bang Shi-hyuk is a soft-spoken kind of man so it was shocking to see him express how angry he was with the nature of the music industry (had been for most of his life). He expressed how the *“situation of the industry was not sensible.”* And that quiet anger at the unjust, corrupt and nonsensical nature of the music industry fuelled his desire to do something. *“He concluded his speech by encouraging the latest batch of graduates to carve a path for themselves, despite the challenges that may come with it. Bang encouraged the graduates to share his anger with mediocrity and fight against complacency”.* BTS wasn’t something he planned though. They were a happy accident made in a special petri dish when he poured CHEMICAL X and accidently made the powerpuff girls. But after hearing the speech, I came to understand why BTS had so much freedom to make ‘healing music’, why they as big as they are now: Unchecked space to be human in their music. Dude, sorry for longass essay - I’ve had 2hours of sleep and I’m starting to taste numbers and smell colours. I like hearing you speak, keep at it. Cheers. ~AUSTRALIAN ARMY

The fandom doesn’t care abt radio either. However, billboard takes radio play into consideration. Bts’s latest single ON landed #4 on hot100 without radioplay. If they had it, #1 song would have been ours. Next single, the fandom is gonna push for #1 without anyone’s help. BTS only has us.

BTS is the first group that I followed in the beginning more for the artist themselves than for the music. The music is phenomenal don't get me wrong but the boys of BTS are inspirational as people. I thought I knew most of this stuff that you read but there was a few new things for me, thank you for doing the read. As a person in my 50s I get ribbed a lot about my love of BTS from family, friends and coworkers but I always tell them that if they would just look past the words boy band they would discover something life changing and motivational.

Haha! Yes, I’m 51 and most people around me look at me with fond pity and think I may have lost my mind early😶 But discovering BTS a couple of years ago has changed my life, brought happiness back into it and I will walk with these boys until the end. In my case, the music is definitely a huge part; I have liked many artists in my life, although never been a fan of any before, and more importantly never bought albums because even if I liked a few songs, I could never listen to a full album. BTS’ entire discography is on my daily playlist (as well as having purchased their albums several time over, not helping with my worrisome state, according to concerned well-wishers around me🤣). I can’t get enough because I feel I am discovering something new all the time, it boggles my mind. But you are right; even with this phenomenal discography, I do not believe I would have become an ARMY if I hadn’t come to “know” our boys and their amazing personalities. My mind struggles so often when I consider the serendipity required for the 7 of them to meet, to not only like each other but build this extra-ordinary bulletproof friendship, to all be so immensely talented, to meet Bang PD, to have the support of BigHit.... I mean where do I even stop🤯 I am simply grateful they found me when I needed them, grateful to witness history in the making, and I just feel sorry for the people looking at me sideways because I KNOW the amount of true love they’re missing out on... I am so proud to be walking with them🤟🏻💜🤟🏻Borahae

Yup. All of this can easily be related to j-hope’s statement about what their name means. “‘Bangtan’ means to be resistant to bullets, so it means to block the stereotypes and expectations imposed on adolescents”. That’s not a direct quote as I was only able to draw from my immediate memory, but I am sure you have it written down somewhere from watching the many introductory videos ARMY have recommended. They really go out of their way to help and protect all kinds of people despite their backgrounds and identities.

Oh MONQ, I'm sorry if this is a lot to read. If you want me to send my dissertations to your email next time tell me under this post because I have tons of filler information for you lol. First thing first. We have to give credit to who they call Bang PD-nim (Hitman Bang) or Bang Si-Hyuk. He's the founder and co-CEO of Big Hit. Hitman Bang had been in the Idol business for years and became disillusioned with what he saw. He didn't like the treatment or music he saw within the Idol music industry and thought he could make a difference. So when he started BH he wanted his first group to be different. He wanted them to be able to be themselves and write about what was important to them. The motto you see on the BH splash screen before MVs "Music and Artist for Healing" is a promise BTS and Hitman Bang made to each other to do work that helps to be honest with themselves and to heal them and their fans with relatable music. Okay now to answer some of your questions. There were a few groups that came to the US and were recognized at the time they were here but forgotten just as quickly. Groups like Girl's Generation, Wonder Girls, Super Junior and Big Bang made it to the West but left no HUGE impression. Of course some may have gotten into Idol music because of them but no lasting commercial presence. Then in 2012 Psy and his Gangnam Style swept the world. There wasn't a place that Gangnam Style didn't rule. Everyone wanted and had Psy on their show and he performed on the AMAs with MC Hammer. Psy's next hit was Gentleman I believe and that didn't do as well. The US sort of considered him a novelty and they were over him. Between 2012 through to 2017 (and I'll explain why I said 2017) Idol music wasn't really pushing mainstream buttons. Now the guys were starting to make in-roads into the West in 2015. The Idol convention KCON was very big for the guys. In 2014, they got some interest which lead to 2015-2016 their songs Dope, Fire and especially Blood Sweat and Tears really started to get their name in the Western world. Follow that up with 2016-2017 spectacular KCON appearances and their name was popping around the West. 2017 is when they fully broke through with appearances at BBMAs (won top social artist award), appearance at AMAs with a performance of DNA and on talk shows like Ellen and Jimmy Kimmel. The fact that they can handle all those different subjects with music and have it be in many genres and to be catchy and great is amazing. How many songs that are "important" sound preachy? The guys truly follow the sentiment that John Lennon said when talking about Imagine: He said if you make a song that sounds good it makes the message easier to listen to and absorb. Yes, the guys tend to share a lot with us and as ARMY I didn't know how much we are "fed" ie spoiled by the guys until something Anitra said in her live. She was talking about all the solo songs she had to do reviews for and her ult Chanyeol had released a song under his new mini-label. She was so excited because she said EXO doesn't get to do as much as BTS does when it comes to connecting and sharing with the fans. They all have IG and can go on live but there is no support from their label when it comes to anything else. But with BTS we get random Bangtan Bombs, which is footage they have filmed during anything the guys have done even since day one. We get songs out of nowhere and BH usually signal boosts them and they aren't even making money from them. These are side projects the boys just drop on soundcloud. EXO just had an 8 year anniversary and it seems as SM gave no fucks but EVERY anniversary BTS has there is at least a video of the guys getting together and talking. They share roommate stories or things they are struggling through or jokes for us to see and know them more and more. When it comes to their clothes and not being gender specific, they've worn skirts and fishnet stockings. One set of the concept photos for MOTS:Persona had half of them in "women" clothing. For an award show they were all wearing pajamas and V was wearing a Fenty (Rihanna's company)night dress as a night shirt. They do care about gender rolls like that. If the guys joke especially to Jimin about something not being "manly" he immediately goes "Ugh there's that word again, what even is that!" and he remarks that way because he had a hard time early on cause he was given a concept of being "hard" which isn't fully who he is. His duality is the most noticeable: one minute he can get sort of thug like and then the next he's crying because his maknaes are upset. The song "Am I Wrong" was originally a song by blues artist Keb' Mo (who I love, saw him in concert) and they adapted it and criticized the politician about one of his statements. With the Sewol Ferry Incident, the government covered up a ferry accident that killed over 30 children in 2014. BTS has a song that they won Song of the Year 2017 for called Spring Day. RM and Suga wrote the song about missing friends and a bit about their friendship. The video has two distinct theories about it: One is about the Sewol Ferry tragedy and another is about their story line in the Bangtan Universe. People in SK took to the song and it resonated about the tragedy to them that BTS donated the proceeds of the song to the survivors of the ferry accident. During their last award wins Jin and RM talked about chart manipulation that has been going on since they begun. Lastly about BTS' radioplay. You know even being Black in the US market you can be looked over, now let's think about a group from SK that sings mostly in Korean AND are considered a boy band so no one but "screaming girls" listen to them. That should tell you how receptive radio and some of the media are towards them. The sad thing is radio was never going to be as high for BTS as for English speaking artists and the guys, BH and ARMY recognized that but we expected some spins from some radio who made themselves seem like allies. They gave spins to Boy With Luv ft. Halsey. Make it Right ft. Lauv and they seemed just as hyped as we were for the release of MOTS:7. BH and the guys even did some radio spots and interviews with who we thought was worthy and they did Jingle Ball and NYE for a station. So we all thought we would have some spins. When it came time to spin their title track "ON" radio complained it had to be the version featuring Sia and that still had to be edited further. BH complied even though we all believed at that point it was NOT going to happen but they didn't want it said it broke down because THEY weren't compliant. Gave out the single and almost nothing. We tried to talk to our supposed "allies" and they came back with bullshit about BTS wasn't making themselves available when they had just spent 3 months in Cail and about a week in NYC doing interviews while filming 3 of their music videos and prepping for 2 live tv performances and a Grammy stage. They tell us they have to cater to a demographic when the greatest number of BTS fans fall in their demographic of 20-45. A couple of radio DJs tried to talk to ARMY about what was going on and got smacked down because unlike (I'm gonna say something I don't think is controversial but someone on yt will find it to be) most Idol music fans ARMY knows the music business. We taught ourselves charts and how to read metrics, rules and parameters for award shows, youtube views, spotify/itunes/apple/amazon/shazam streaming practices and numbers, how Billboard works etc. Because International ARMY knew if we weren't shooters for the boys on the ground level, no one else would have their backs. K-Diamonds have their backs for charts in SK and I-ARMY knew we had to get ourselves together if they were going to make it with less obstacles here in a music industry that treats foreign acts badly. We all want to say radio isn't necessary but until US award shows finally follow the music listening trends of streaming services, radio still has a toe in the pool. Award shows give them power and clout that a lot of the music listening numbers don't but until that ends, if they want recognition for their music in the US market radio is needed. Do they really care about awards, no not really but to not win one in a market you are dominating in just because of politics, xenophobia and under the table deals is maddening and heartbreaking. In the end they won't care but it still would feel hurtful to I-ARMY because of how hard the guys worked and we worked beside them. WHOOOOOOOOO! Tell me if you rather have this in an email next time. Usually I try not to rant but to give thorough answers but to some of your questions I found that I got really detailed.

JYP is JYP - he has his own style of management. One thing he did that was 'different' was to set up a team who were exclusively employed to support TWICE in all aspects of their professional career - this is one of the reasons why TWICE has taken off as well as it has. He also has a history with Bang Si-Hyuk, when Bang once worked with JYP before branching out on his own. When there were planned attacks by a fandom against BTS, it's also highly unlikely that JYP's fandoms were involved. In saying that though BTS have always held their sunbae's (senior artists) & hoobae's (junior artists) in the highest regard & remain humbled throughout, no matter which company those artists belonged to. BTS have always been giving from the beginning even when they were living in a small dorm all sleeping in one room. As well as Yoongi's birthday event' These events really put into perspective the type of people they are.

Well yass i wasnt even on Twitter when i got into them back then and they made me fucking create an account just to support them in that plattform too, so i guess yass i was growing whit them too i just wanted to do whatever i could to help them achieve things i still remember when we constantly asked billboard to nominate or invite them to the award show (i dont think any other artist was nominated by such massive demand from the public) and honestly that was one of the best things i experienced as an army bcs everything went uphill from there (even when their hatter base obviously grew massively too) and i just felt so proud of them and somehow acomplished in a way i will never ever forget those times!!!! We just wanted to make the untochable and i think in a way we made it!!!!

Bts opens a lot about their lives and everything and about the LGBTQ community it's real and there is a lot of times where they talked about it and namjoon wrote a song about it before debuting for a girl group and bts aren't afraid to talk about it even though in korea it's a taboo

The song about the gobernments incident is 'Spring day', we call this song the queen. I think you can dedicate a chapter to this song. There is an explanation video m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqrIYoKEe8p-n9U. For me was hard to deal with this theme for what represents, but there are things that must been said. Sorry for my bad english. I 💜 your channel.

you should watch a video called bts being unfair to korea. Also bts has more then 300 million fans. I say that bc in 2017 bts became the first korean artist to win an award in the billboard music award. And it was fan voted and they relased how many ppl voted for bts and it was 300 million ppl voted for bts in 2017 and in second place about 70 million people voted for justin bieber.
