A month has passed since I saw this video. This is a call out to the stereotype “anime is cringe” which, I am now not so sure of. I will try the best thing that I can do: analyze this with logic and some facts. What is exactly the definition of anime? Why is it cringe? Where did I get that idea? Definition of anime: Originated from Japan, it is a form of multimedia content, which has a very distinct style of drawing. This being, the anime drawing style. Alright, with anime defined, where did I get the idea that all anime is cringe? Is anime really cringe? The sources of cringe usually come from: “Cringe” anime memes, and maybe the community (Yes, femboy things included). I will continue to break down the problem. Cringe anime memes. Are these actually cringe? For the majority of the memes, at least the ones I’ve seen, either need context or are just… Their style. In the core, why are they cringe? For most, it is because of the phenomenon “Female Repellency”. These kinds of memes are only funny when you are in like “the vibe” if you want to call it that. So, really, it is kind of cringe. Not as often for men, but it is for women. There is a group of modern men. The ones that cause the “Female repellency” effect. When saying too many things about a certain topic, to the point of that person not knowing common topics to talk about. This just cuts the conversation or ends it because of the uncomfortability because the “Average person” is not just in his home, you know, for saying it in a non-offensive way, “not doing productive things”, and the person causing the female repellency effect just talks and talks forever about that topic, and eventually the other person just thinks “this mf is a nerd that does absolutely nothing in his home and probably useless” and just goes away. Now, is anime actually cringe? Anime, as a whole, is a medium. So it’s up to you to forget about your life and just watch anime, which you can do with any other thing. But the genre itself isn’t that bad. Maybe there are better ones and worse and fucked up ones. But if there’s a seller, it’s because there’s a buyer. So with all of this, I think I am close to a conclusion. If anime isn’t itself cringe and part of the community is and on top of that there are memes that can be cringe and shine that part of the community maybe the problem isn’t anime. Maybe anime isn’t cringe at all. Maybe what’s happening is that we just see the people that shine on cringe and we relate to that content that they consume. If the community is cringe, the medium is also cringe. But that isn’t true. Final conclusion: Anime isn’t cringe; the community is. I misjudged anime content. It isn't cringe.
