I can’t see this being functional 5-10 years down the road. I’ve always bought used zero turns that were around that age and this is getting into the territory of used electric cars where battery replacement cost means you throw it away when the batterys die.

You are completely WRONG. You never have to replace a batteries on an electric car. Studies, data and measurements clearly shows that batteries in electric cars degrade only 1 do 1.5 % per year. That means that after 20 years of use you would still have 70 to 80 % of original range when the car was new! Also even if you had very rare case when one cell in the battery go bad, you can fix just that one cell for $100. Also the batteries now are only 120$ per 1 kWh. But don't worry about it, because 10 year old Tesla still have 90 % or their original capacity.

If batteries dies after a few years you must be doing something wrong like charging them to 100% before storing them or leaving them completely dead.. Either that or the BMS sucks

@@danielgranath2348 Honestly the BMS on the EGO equipment seems very smart. They actually stop charging after 100% instead of cooking away like other battery systems out there. The cells should have a nice long lifespan if the BMS is doing its job properly like it appears to be.

These don't have the longevity that I want. I prefer Lifepo4 batteries but that's better then other options and in the lifetime of the mower you'd probably save the extra cost of this mower in 10 years if the batteries last that long. These don't have the ability to challenge gas in the acreage they can do per charge vs per tank that can be filled and back to work. I love this if you have a smaller property but otherwise It's neat but not for our needs.

In addition to the belt for the deck, you would also be doing away with 3 deck spindles. There's no "transmission" as such on a zero turn, but you would be doing away with 2 wheel motors ($600/each for my machine), two hydraulic pumps, and a large fluid reservoir. With nearly 20 years on my mower, I am very interested in an electric replacement!

I also had a flat front tire and they sent out a new one pretty quickly. Now as for power, during the week it was being serviced I used my neighbor's cadet zt and the power difference is immense. Gas easily knocks down 3' grass, the z6 will need to do that slowly and will still get stuck often. For me, the one thing that turned me away from this is that the batteries are only graded to last 3-5 years when you read their instruction manual. Sure you don't pay for gas or upkeep, but that's a huge cost to replace all six batteries when they start to go. Between gas, sparkplugs, filters, hoses, belts and rebuilds the electric saves money. That is a LOT of gasoline usage. A few gallons a week at least times 30 weeks or more. You are talking 100 gallons plus a year. At $4.50/g that is $450/year just for gas, times 6 years is $2700 for the gas alone, and that is only if gas doesn't go up higher, or depending on where you live or if your tractor uses diesel or if you have a bigger yard and use more gas. Then add in all the other maintenance. Batteries are cheaper

I've owned the 52" Z6 for ~7 months, and I've loved the machine. My house is on 1.6 acres of mowable grass, and I have no issue cutting it twice on one charge with a 3.5" cut. I use the grass bagger attachment, and if I cut the grass weekly, I can cut the whole lawn and only empty the bagged clippings twice. The high lift blades really do a good job sucking up all the clippings and mulching them very finely. My front yard is well beyond a 15 degree slope and I've had no issue mowing it with the z6. Mowing up-and-down or side-to-side is no problem. The grass bagging kit comes with 2 weights for the front end, and I think that helps with slope performance. I've also driven a zero turn for 25+ years, so I've gotten used to properly angling them for horizontal hillside cutting. You can use zero turns on most slope angles- you just need to practice. Years 1-4 I was sideway-skiing into everything when on a slope. I'll never forget sliding into a metal dog water bowl and getting the bowl hung in the grass discharge while bending a mowing blade on an old Yard King. Dad wasn't happy. Yard slope shouldn't be the deciding factor for getting a zero turn or not if you're willing to practice. I use the trailer hitch to pull a lawn broadcaster and a haul-trailer for bags of mulch. Have had no issue pulling a trailer with 500lbs of bagged bark chips up hill- can't really even feel the extra weight with the motor torque. So far I don't have any complaints. I have many many Ego tools and being able to use the 12Ah batteries with them has been great- I use the Ego battery backpack to wear the big 12Ah battery like a backpack and then connect the backpack to the tool using a super lightweight cable. Gives me all day tool battery life from 1 of the 12Ah batteries without wearing my arms out with an unbalanced tool....the 12Ah batteries are pretty dang heavy. Great system and I have never had any issues with any of my Ego tools.

I have a Ryobi RM480e that I bought on Facebook Marketplace for $1500, retail was $2800+tax at the time. I've been using it for almost 3 years and I absolutely love not having to ever go get gas or do any other maintenance to it other than the blades and make sure the tires have air. I do wish the mower motors were stronger because I don't like making multiple passes and I cut my lawn a little low. I also wish I had an AWD model because I get stuck in my swale sometimes lol. It's rated at 2 acres and I have only a 1/4 acre but I have tested not charging it and I have easily gotten 7 cuts out of that and it would die on the 8th cut. Highly recommend going electric for a mower.

@@williamjackson5942 Hope to in a year or two. I used to work on golf courses as a groundsman and mechanic. I've operated just about every piece of equipment you could find on a golf course and I've done lots of yardwork. I saw the drawbacks in the vid and that thing is not for me. Maybe someday when they get better. When prices come down, and battery technology gets better. Also that machine just bogged down in the tall grass and he could only take narrow passes with it. I would have used a sickle bar machine first, then raked it off then cut it regularly. Not saying it's a bad machine, but it's not for me. Had 35 acres once. Sold it a couple of years ago, and the EGO machine would have been shot in no time. Also, zero turns are nice but they're not garden tractors. The gas powered Zero turns can pull equipment in a pinch. But they're really only good for cutting grass. I would want something more versatile. I used to drive tractors pulling gang reels and could cut almost 100 acres on a good day. The EGO looks like a toy to me by comparison. When you ran Allis Chalmers, International Lo-Boys or something like the old Ford 8N, and had to cut side hills standing up and leaning into the hill so the tractor wouldn't roll over, or you could jump off on if it did, that little slope the EGO couldn't tackle is nothing. So, nope. Cheers!👍

I just picked up an Echo string trimmer and it does the entire yard with no problem.

What’s the voltage on the Kobalt? My first electric trimmer was a 12v Black & Decker that cost $99. It was … OK. 10 minutes of battery life. Got the Ego, which is 56v, and it was immensely better. I’ve never been able to trim enough to run down my battery to 0 on a 0.6 acre lot. Just depends on what you have. That’s impressive on the Craftsman! Mine is about 10 years old but not that worry-free. Part of it is me finding things like roots.

I wonder how many tons of either coal, or gas it to to produce the 4 hours of electricity to charge the batteries? And the environmental impact of producing the products and batteries than the environmental impact when a battery goes bad, will it end up in a landfill, along side the road or even in a creek, river or ocean. These are what they don't tell us. Just the chemicals for the batteries is bad news.

@SilverCymbal
@SilverCymbal 2 жыл бұрын
Now adays I wouldn't expect anything to last that long, sad but true. Old fridges lasted 20 years or more. They now tell me the average new one will last 8-10 years!. But in terms of this mower, I can't speak for the machine itself, but the batteries should last at 100% capacity for about 11 years before needing replacing if used for mowing. This assumes 6 months of mowing a year once a week, charging every other week. Even after 11 years they will still work but will not hold as long of a charge. For motors, etc I can't say but Ego stuff seems very well reviewed.

Pretty much any gas zero turn today is going to run you $5500. So you are only paying $50-80 more. And you'll save that much in gas the first season. The 12Ah EGO batteries sell for $549 at Ace hardware, and $599 at Lowes, so for six of them, even if we assume a bulk rate of $500 per, that's $3,000 of the total price in batteries alone, which really brings the cost of the mower itself down quite a bit.
