@Nicky Bobby Mammoths were hunted in prehistory, much before than civilizations and things like writing started existing. During the earlier Stone Age, which encompasses like 20000 years of prehistory, rocks were the strongest material because humans didn't know how to properly work metal. Even though you could carve beautifully detailed weapons in bone and wood, those materials can easily break and are also very difficult to clean properly, so no fanciness there at all. It's not until the later Neolithic that metalworkers started working with copper and ended discovering how to mix it into bronze, which surpassed rocks in weaponcrafting.

@Nicky Bobby It's true that you can make _really_ nice stone weapons. Knapped obsidian or flint can be razor sharp, and it's entirely possible they had javelins with break-away heads, meant to open up bleeding wounds in creatures. And it's not like humans can't go toe-to-toe with larger animals either. On this season of _Alone_, one of the contestants stabs an adult musk-ox to death with their _belt knife_ after hitting it with a single arrow.

I fought against Gammoth once. With my Mizutsune armor and bow (that somebody had to help me get because I was too low of an HR at the time.). Online. With three other people. Who were HR 3 or lower. Oh yeah, and I was getting owned by Gammoth's trunk grab attack (or pin attack). *_IT'S A MIRACLE WE SURVIVED AND SLAYED THIS BEAUTIFUL GIRL_*

Fun fact: gammoth is the larger version of popo but because tigrex eats always popo all the remaining popo turn to be gammoth when older also they fear and anxiety turn into aggresion and fury

Four words Convergent evolution And Mutual Symbiosis Gammoths just happened to resemble popo, but are separate in terms of lineage (could be wrong here) And Gammoths are known to hide their young among Popo herds, to which those same calves grow up to defend that herd from threats like Tigrex.
