In world this made things like slinger aiming a pain. Let us bind things more freely especially since it wont conflict. Also let us bind modifier keys like an MMO. I believe that this is intended or a unavoidable limitation of focus mode. The Carge Blade for example has this new move in focusmode in axe mode called someting like 'fade slash' which requies you to pull the left stick back an press triangle. The left stick can then not be used as camera controll because it is bound to the weapon attack. Thats what i think at least. I use claw so I didn't even know you can aim with the left stick until now 😅
@-siranzalot-22 күн бұрын
This. Charge blade now has way more moves to reposition during combos. If the left Stick would also be used as a camera control during those, it would render the left stick inputs ambiguous. The alternative - Having the mapping switch back and forth mid combo - would likely be more confusing than helpful. Mouse doesn't have this restriction as it is used for camera movement anyway.

i believe this is the intended way they have implemented movement into the weapons based on how it varies weapon to weapon. CB and SA for example have the same problem as GS, but that's because the left stick is used to trigger specific moves in focus mode such as the moving dashes on SA. basically they have reserved the left stick to commands for the focus modes expanded moveset. the reason lance differs is because most of its new moves are not focus moves, they are base attacks or passive attacks like the shield bash on block, so it doesn't need the extra inputs from left stick to trigger new moves.

I assume this is because shift is default bound to focus strike. The second is with use item on the radial menu, I wanted this on middle mouse - from world/rise muscle memory - but this conflicted with my binding for held focus mode. Which frustrates me since going in and out of focus mode with the item bar expanded to use the radial menu is... pointless? There is no reason for this conflict. Edit: There is also no 'Added Key: Aim Slinger' for gunners only 'Added key: Aim Weapon/Slinger' so the keysbind is always shared. Which begs the question why there is even an added key option for gunner at all, especially since the game does not let you have the added keys for either gunner or blademaster unbound. At least for blademaster the added keys are only for slinger and not focus mode. I would like to have the same controls for my slinger when my weapon is not drawn for both gunner and blademaster but I cannot with the binds like this. I have a similar sort of issue that I think is even worse but isn't mentioned anywhere because people seem to have given up on Insect Glaive without trying it too much. They have a new attack where you can charge up the kinsect and have it do a piercing attack to get multiple color extracts at once. With good aiming this can actually frequently net you all 3 colors in one go, greatly alleviating one of the biggest issues with the weapon (getting your buffs quickly to reduce downtime). To do this attack on PS5 controllers, you need to hold right trigger (R2) and Triangle. But this is an attack that sends your bug out like a projectile, so it has to be aimed as well. And aiming needs to be precise to try and get all the colors in one go. Focus mode does NOT allow you to use left stick to aim with this mode either, so the only way that this can be used with any degree of success is with the claw technique, and it makes me so mad. When the weapon has had so much needlessly removed from it (aerial shenanigans, earplugs built into orange buff, etc.) and basic QoL things have gone ignored for generations (such as renewing triple buffs before they expire), having a new move added that would actually be useful hidden behind nigh-unusable control schemes is such a hard pill to swallow.

There is also an issue of FM removing some recovery frames on dodge-rolls. If you roll forward and backward normally with your weapon out, your character does a 180 degree turn before the 2nd roll backwards. But if you press focus mode you skip the recover animations of the roll and are able to do much faster rolls consecutively. This makes focus mode almost a necessity for certain weapons like the HH that really benefit from lesser roll recovery. But not all weapons have the benefit of this so it creates this weird inbalance between weapons where some weapons benefit from it a lot and others don't

Growing pains, of course. What we're seeing here is Capcom trying to have BOTH a first person-style MELEE control concept married to a fighting game melee concept and then marrying the controls so you can intuitively swap between them in real time. That's frankly insane and super ambitious. The fact that it works as well as it does shows a good understanding of brawler game design and controls. I do think a bunch of the buttons can be remapped for various weapons so that they make more sense, but it'll involve more than just thinking of each mode separately! You'll have to think about having TPS controls in first person and vice versa and having each mode be kind of a hybrid. For Charge blade, the left analog stick has to be motion-mapped in Focus Mode when pressing the circle button because that allows you to Sliding Slash from neutral, which is a massive deal for CB users. So for the control scheme to work with the control flow for combos, it has to be camera-mapped for triangle inputs but motion mapped for circle inputs while in Focus Mode for Sword Mode attacks. The reverse has to be applied for Axe Mode, as the triangle attacks in Axe Mode move, but the circle attacks don't, so in Focus Mode while in Axe Mode, the circle attacks are camera-mapped, but the triangle attacks are motion-mapped. Clear as mud?

Take hammer, for example - big bang now goes into mighty big bang by going B -> B -> B -> R2 + Y + B -> Y + B. That R2 + Y + B is difficult to press altogether with one hand.
@ehrerik378622 күн бұрын
And as a hunting horn main, this R2 + Y + B is my parry, which is the worst decision ever capcom.

insect glaive has it the worst, every move in focus mode lets it do extra, besides the added benefits of aiming, so you are always holding focus mode down, the cherry on top, you have to HOLD circle down to charge a move, and can be done while you're attacking, so left trigger circle and then every other button you need, i managed but my right hand was cramping after an hour it was rough
@10XSeiga22 күн бұрын
That's tough and solutions for this would be appreciated but developing options for the myriad of human disabilities is a difficult ask for any game developer. They do as much as they can without fully retracting from the main game.

I absolutely believe like this is a problem that should be resolved. Speaking for CB, trying to use focus mode with many attacks and especially with the savage axe holding felt discordant and unintuitive I'd like to offer an argument against the comments suggesting that this is a necessary limitation of focus mode due to new movement-input attacks in focus mode. Look at GS charge slash. In focus mode before the attack, left stick is used for movement control as normal. Once a charge slash begins, left stick switches to camera control to redirect the attack (an advertised feature of focus mode). So the function of the left stick while in focus mode toggles between movement control outside of the attack animation and camera control during the attack animation. Movement inputs for directional attacks occur *with* the attack input, not during the attack animation. So toggling the function of the left stick in focus mode for *every* attack (instead of only limited charging attacks) would still allow for the new focus mode movement attacks since you would be back to movement control once your previous attack ended. Not in an attack animation: left stick controls movement and allows movement attacks. In an attack animation: Movement inputs do nothing. left stick controls the camera. Focus mode feels gimmicky right now. If this change was made, it would feel more like the key feature of combat I suspect Capcom wants it to be.

Lance has been a frustrating nightmare for me to play. I'm so used to the snappy responsiveness and precision of the weapon from World and Rise, so now having to rely on focus mode for that precision and it's not even as precise as I want it to be? It wouldn't be as bad if I could have my camera follow the head or specific body part but then I feel like at that point the game is almost playing itself for me. I've never felt so disappointed in my favorite weapon before, I'll either have to learn it on MKB or just pick up a new weapon altogether

I believe the intended use for the Toggle Focus Mode feature is to tap it, make camera adjustments, and untoggle tactically. I was already doing this with the default hold option - you don't need to be in Focus Mode 100% of the time, only to aim your attack. You will be toggling it and untoggling it (or holding and letting go) as a "weaved" input during all of your combos and movement while fighting. It's actively worse for mobility to stay in Focus Mode after you've already aimed your attack and initiated the attack.

Definitely an issue. I noticed it heavily when switching between weapons on controller. I started with Lance on controller and thought focus mode was useless. Swapped to Great Sword, and I could 180. Couldn't figure out why. Realized I needed to use the right stick for certain attacks, but thought it was stupid because it required a claw grip. Tried mouse and keyboard, and literally every skill worked how I expected it to. It needs to be fixed.

Not exactly fair to compare left stick to mouse. Because mouse functions as a camera control which is on a right stick. Try to do the same with WASD. Sure, not exactly convenient to do a claw grip, but you don't exactly need it for most weapons, because your commands are pretty muck buffered during a combo, and you can press it and while animations for previous part is going you have plenty of time to ajust camera. Honestly, i can see your point, but i much prefer clear distinction between "movement stick" and "camera stick".

I really think this might be able to be solved by having flick stick + gyro active for focus mode. This way you get to have normal camera movement like you're used to without focus mode on (also gyro when not in active gameplay is kinda silly) and with focus mode on you're not so strained trying to claw grip or whatever wierdness you might be trying to get your hand to do. I don't have a solution for xbox controllers tho. (microsoft please put gyro in your damn controllers, everyone else does it..)

I'm playing Wilds exclusively on M+K and it feels optimal for almost all the weapons. I usually just hit the Alt key for locked focus mode once and then just free form all around the monster with basically unrestricted camera. Interestingly, the default settings had the non-locked focus mode on my mouse 4 button, which is totally superfluous there. I just re-bound mouse 4 with R key, which is the guard/morph/etc key. That one absolutely has to be on the mouse so that your left hand is almost exclusively resting on the movement keys. I think M+K really shines for this title.

Those inconsistencies definitely stood out for me, too. Another inconsistency with Focus Mode, that was really annoying with melee weapons, is the inability to adjust the Focus reticle on the vertical axis with the left stick. Trying to readjust the reticle in the middle of an attack on the vertical axis, due to the monsters moving around, made it very difficult to maintain a combo, only because the left thumb would need to move between the right stick & buttons.

Only seeing the examples given in the video, an hypothesis may be that it depends on the "width" of a combo. So, generally, a charged attack will trigger the unlocking of the horizontal movement in Focus Mode ; then, the slash combo with GS cover a certain horizontal area, just as the general combo for the charge blade whereas the poke with the Lance is much more narrow. So most non charged swipe attack may not unlock the horizontl movemement given that there is more chance to hit thus less adjustments with left stick (which remains the basic input for redirection) ?
@Ketsuekisan22 күн бұрын
I thought something seemed off when I turned the left-stick camera movement on and nothing happened. It's because I was using Charge Blade. In my experience with this, I know some weapons have different animations depending on the direction your holding your left stick. Like the charge blade you were using as an example. In axe mode, left or right with triangle are different attacks swinging either left or right. Maybe I don’t want to look left when I’m trying to get my left swing animation. I know toggle is an option for focus mode, but if you let it go you can look around faster and press it again and you will attack in the new direction you are focusing. It’s like if you were playing a shooter and always looking down the scope, you don’t do that. There might be an easier way they can come up with, but I think it works as intended with those different animations in mind.
@sirsmarf21 күн бұрын
I agree, the biggest issue is that it isn't as accessible for non M&K players, and some people aren't going to be able to claw grip easily, especially if they don't or haven't played games that benefit a ton from claw grip. If they make it so that the moves that have movement implemented into the left stick don't move the camera, but ones that are mostly static do allow you to turn it with the left stick, I think that'd feel amazing. Hopefully it is possible for them to make that change easily, but I understand they are two very different input methods.
@Arkyuu22 күн бұрын
I only learned about this when I played Lance then I realized the left stick becomes a camera control when I am doing the charged poke with circle. But I agree, Ruri. Focus mode should I allow us to free move the camera with the left stick as long as the attack do not require a directional input
@georgewashington753322 күн бұрын
I literally control savage axe charge blade by holding L2 with my left ring finger and reaching over to the right stick with my left thumb for camera, while using my right hand to hold circle/triangle for my swings. Its more comfortable than you’d think but clearly theres a problem when this is my best solution. Reminds me of trying to play monhun back on 3ds with the awkward camera movement lmao. Also worth considering is actually using the lock on in either mode, which I also have not used since 3ds. Only reason I don’t like it is it aims everything to the middle of the monster, meaning you cant really focus parts, which is a problem because wounds are a super important factor now too.
@Timberpelt22 күн бұрын
I knew exactly where you were gonna go with this video!!! I'm facing this issue with charge blade especially! It makes sense that your circle attack, being your fade slash, would allow you to input direction on where to slide, but I would like for it to then switch the left stick to allow you to turn the camera after you begin the attack because, the fade slash can have your character change the direction they are facing by the end of the attack!!! Also just like the great sword circle combo. The charge blade triangle combo does NOT have directional inputs! Therefore you should be allowed to rotate the camera while committing to those attacks, but you can't! Aughhh I already submitted my beta survey response so I can't speak on it but oooough, this sucks!
@Timberpelt22 күн бұрын
I also agree with the notions that the button mapping for insect glaive is not great too!!! I loved insect glaive, charge blade, and gunlance in world, those are my big 3. But not being able to aim the kinsect to do charge sucks!!! Why can't we charge the kinsect by holding r2 while aiming to send out for extracts? You hold R2 for a longer duration and it resets the charge anytime you hit triangle or circle, so there's basically no reason to have to hold triangle. Also having the R1 button to shoot a marker is also awkward and arbitrary! Why can't it be triangle + circle to shoot a marker or L2 like it was for Rise? If you activate kinsect aim mode first then you shouldn't be allowed to enter focus mode unless you hold the focus mode down first, during which, if you are holding R2 you remain in focus mode until you let go. But there wouldn't be a point because if you hold both L2 and R2 you can only send out/retrieve your kinsect and you'll be aiming with the right stick and have a reticle anyways. It doesn't make sense! As for the tetraseal slash and the rising slash, as well as wyvern dive, it absolutely sucks to have to hold the face button and have to rely on gyro and or having focus camera (monster centered in screen) instead of gyro. I tried IG with focus camera in world and it ruins your ability to reposition effectively especially if you have input 2 (left stick relative to the hunter rather than camera) because everything is moving around too much for you to keep track of which direction you should move the stick. (for aerial combat but I guess that isn't really relevant now outside of the first dodge and circle attack) I don't want to have to change my game settings every single time I want to switch weapons just to be able to play optimally! Not unless they give me the ability to adjust the settings for each individual weapon and keep it that way for those weapons! If a weapon attack has a movement mechanic where a directional input results in a fade/directional swing, it should allow you to start the attack by pushing the left stick in that direction. From there on, if the attack does NOT have a directional input/ability to move your character with the attack, it should allow you to move the camera instead. The attacks for insect glaive are cool because you can weave it in with your regular combos yes, but as far as I'm aware its going to be a combo finisher most of the time anyways. Insect glaive also DOES NOT have any Triangle + Circle attacks!!! Instead of having it be a charge mechanic it should be a Triangle + Circle input to perform those! The charge is superfluous and serves no purpose other than to emulate FF XVI or DMC style of combat where you prime and attack in the middle of a combo string. If a move has only a BACK directional input, then the camera should still be steerable as well! Like the backhop for the SnS or the SAED cancel! Hold back to initially cancel it, and once that animation starts you should immediately be allowed to adjust the camera with the left stick!
@Lexgamer21 күн бұрын
In the boarder scheme of things, you're 100% right. For me personally, I can still play like normal without focus mode, and I don't have too much issue moving the right stick, then quickly moving back to hit a button, and back to the stick again to slightly tweak aim, etc. Is it as good as PC? No. But as with any FPS that plays fine on console, PC controls for aiming is just a clear advantage, always has been, always will, and no different here.

Inconsistencies should be remedied and you illustrated it pretty well here. Personally my biggest gripe about inconsistencies isn't about focus mode but rather control method 2. I'm probably one out of the dozen or so people that use control 2, but it's weird that they would change how it works from all the previous games. Using lance as an example, no matter which direction the camera is facing I can hold down on the left stick and press dodge to do the big hop during combos. Holding left on the stick and dodging will make me hop to my character's left even if the camera is looking behind me, which I've gotten accustomed to. The problem begins when you are using the dashing attack. I want to hold down and press dodge to do a quick turnaround but it doesn't work if the camera isn't directly behind my character. Same with side hops, they act as if I'm using control method 1 instead of 2.
