It was a console exclusive but ya, its PC launch numbers were nowhere near as high as they would have been had the pc launch been concurrent with the console launches. The PC launch was a full 8 months after the console launch and they drip fed content so PC was always still behind consoles. A lot of people who would have preferred to play on PC played on console because they didn't want to wait and then they didn't want to repurchase the game on pc just to have to reset 8 months of progress and still have to wait months to get to new content. They blundered the shit out of the PC launch and disrespected the PC community... which was a real shame because the game just felt so comfortable on PC. With a proper simultaneous pc launch this game will get a ton more love from the PC community. Here's hoping they get the performance issues dialed in a bit before launch.

Monster Hunter is NOT live service wtf...it's a whole game by itself that has had multiplayer for a while and now that DLC is the norm they also make some expansions but there's no monthly, not even yearly content updates. It's just a game with multiplayer and (just recently) expansions.
@tompramanaaccount889228 күн бұрын
Yeah the definition of "Live Service" has change so much since the abomination of EA/Activision microtransactions and they spent years of research how to milk the gold and dime from a players down to a very tiny pieces of content. Live Service used to be an "Alive Server" where there's a huge server with lots of players online playing together and maintained to be alive and well for years to come. Nowadays Live Service means you pay for subscription otherwise you can't continue to enjoy future content and stuck with the content you have or not playing at all. Monster Hunter is the whole package you paid to enjoy till they release a new one and the DLC.
@rebirthofgodrics90727 күн бұрын

The same is with iceborne rajang raging brachy safi fatalis alatreon they were periodically added alongside collab quest into the game.
@thepikminbrawler174627 күн бұрын
How would you define live service then? I feel like World barely fit the mold of what can be considered a live service but I still consider it one. It has a lot of online features, has frequent updates, microtransactions that are the main form of monetization and there is a sense of player retention (the grind).
@anthonyweston558827 күн бұрын

@MrRenanHappy27 күн бұрын
It is literally a live service game as it gets constant updates. They dont just release the game with multiplayer and thats it. I would add that Wild Hearts had the potential to be an actual rival to Monster Hunter but EA didn't want to put in the extra work after it was released. It had serious performance issues on both PC and consoles that never got fixed and the player base never heard anything from the team working on them (Possibly because said team never existed). This lead to the game hemorrhaging players the longer the issues were not fixed. It also never did any after release content updates like MH has been doing for ages.

Wild Hearts is the perfect example why there won't be any game like Monster Hunter from the western AAA studios. EA saw that MH brings a lots of money to Capcom, to they tried to replicate it. But once it was done they realized, that it takes a fuckton of effort, not just to make a game like this on the same level as Capcom does, but it also to keep the game running, with adding actual new content. So they just dropped it. And EA doesn't want a slow steady income. They want all the money in the world right now, with the smallest amount of work.

I may have the pc to handle MH:Wilds, but im still gonna say this The specs needed are not ACTUALLY the specs needed, like a car's gas tank with a hole in it, the dev team did such a poor job you need a bigger rig to handle the F ups. I cannot sufficiently express how much MH means to me. I've played every MH game that was available to me in the UK, and I fondly remember my friend calling me one weekend to invite me over, he showed me MH on the PS2 and I was immediately hooked. I asked my parents if they could buy me the game and luckily enough they were able to buy me it that same day. Then when I got home from my friend's house, I immediately started my new save and played it al throughout the night. I also tear up a little when I listen to A Proof of a Hero, as soon as the build-up then flourish comes, I get tingles all over. I'm so grateful to Capcom and the team for giving me a franchise that I can be so passionate towards, and I hope Wilds will be able to continue that success that World brought about. I just sincerely hope the execs at Capcom know not to eff around with the series and not pervert it with the usual corp greed. They're teetering that line when they added MTXs in World and Rise.

The game can exclusively be played offline with 0 interactions with anyone else. There is not a single actual live service game that can be played offline entire for the duration of the game. Regarding your intro, you speak of the MH franchise being an exemple about building a live service, but that's the thing, Monster Hunter games are *finished products* and not LS. You pay an upfront cost and that's it, you can do pretty much what you want with it: - Rush your way through progression - Install any mods (at your own risks for your save file) - Use cheats - I'm almost certain you can mod cash-shop items into the game - And so on It's not thought like a Live Service where publishers AND lead devs feel like they need to hold your d*ck and show you where to aim, controlling every single aspect of your experience like Ubisoft does even in their solo games nowadays. That's why MHWorld was a breez of fresh air back then, with hope that they'll keep the same philosophy for Wilds~

I'm not so sure on this, it's easy to get big about a high number of players checking out a free test, but for a number of people I know and myself the horrible performance issues shut down a lot of the personal hype for the game, and there are more and more growing concerns about further and further monetization around features that used to simply be present in the game (like the character customization and stuff like that). Monster Hunter is awesome but dismissing all the microtransaction is a bit concerning. It's horrible the number of it (World alone has 200+). Among those are the ones to change the appearance of your character which is not in game. Even MH Stories have that. In Rise you are not able to delete your save and even if you pay the change you cannot change your name. It's not all that grandiose and these are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Capcom spitting on their fans. Let's calm down.
@IzyReally28 күн бұрын
Yeah. I love Monster Hunter but I think it's also walking a narrow line where it just becomes a different type of COD style franchise. The slow creep of microtransactions will eventually cross a point where people will eventually have had enough but by then it will be hard to walk them back. Putting game features behind MTX like character recustomization hasn't aged well as more and more games make that a standard feature. Yet we're probably stuck with that because people have come to terms with it being normal. Capcom is a massive company that doesn't need unwavering loyalty and uncompromising praise. So many companies we looked favorably upon 5 years ago have gone to crap because of people not speaking up when they were the ones tiptoeing a narrow line like Capcom is now.

@@raven80wolfx2 Just because the publisher/devs call it a live service, doesn't mean it is one. Words have actual meanings; They're not just whatever you "feel" like they are. By your logic, I can call you racist, and it's true because I made up my own definition of what it means. Now be quiet.

Been playing since the OG game. Had 4 TVs set up so we could essentially play couch co-op. The game has come so far, and I love how many fans it has gained and that it has retained the same vibe so many years later.

And MH is an actual proper game that usually has an expansion, then an END! Fans keep playing because the game is good! Then next new game! Not that live service forever milking! :)

Live service? Monster Hunter world had some cross over updates and added some new monster’s along the way sure but, I don’t think that then classifies monster Hunter as live service.
