I personally consider some of his pros to _be_ cons, but that's a values judgement. If your goal in Monster Hunter is "get into cool battles with massive kaiju", then MHWs changes will be just what you're looking for. If you're playing for a detailed and semi-realistic take on slaying monsters, it's moving a bit away from that. Doesn't mean it won't still be a blast to play, just that the focus has shifted more to the combat, and away from the grittiness.

Another thing that I would like to say is I kinda like how the monsters have this hierarchy now when before they would feel like they were just clipping each other with attacks now you get full on battles for territory between two monsters which makes you feel like they're actually animals trying to survive than just another boss fight. The best thing about the game is how damn inmersive it is... from throwing nets and capturing small critters to actually see 2 monsters duke it out kaiju style! They feel like real animals now, meaning that they patrol through their territory, eat smaller ones or invade another's one's turf and fight or run against them. One more thing? Where the fuck are your 3 Rathalos figurines?

All that is still there. The only items you can pick up instantly, and when sprinting, are the super basic items, that there’s only one of in a stack. Mining and gathering mushrooms and stuff are faster than before, but still require you to stop, get down, and go through a gathering animation several times.
@TheArnoldification
@TheArnoldification 6 жыл бұрын
As Emo said, this component still exists. The process is expedited for the more essential ingredients like honey and plants for potions, which is a very sensible change. I recall mining being a bit fast when I played the demo but not being instant.

The negative point you talked about, with not having everything explained thoroughly counts as a positive to me. Too many games fall prey to the trope that they need to hold the player's hand through everything. Some games just benefit from having these grey areas to allow players to explore and discover features, making them feel like they accomplished something. On the other hand, one weakness you didn't bring up, is the online play. As it stands, there is a severe issue with it where players that have not seen all the cut-scenes of a mission, can not invite other players to their session, nor can they join others who would be doing that same mission, so long as those cut scenes have not been seen. What this does, in combination with the fact that your personal progression is entirely tied to the story progression, is encourage a player to go through each mission on their own and makes it overly complicated to play through with friends until you get to the actual grind, past high rank. This, in my honest opinion, is a flaw to a game that focuses heavily on online play with a story line about as deep as a porn video's. Besides that though, I really can't find any flaws to the game itself. Grouping with friends can be a little wonky, but I put that issue on PSN's shoddiness, and the game does have an alternative that circumvents PSN's downtimes. Even when the friend list is down, you can join a squad's session, where your friends will meet up with you. The grouping features aren't perfect, but they work.

It's less about hold the player's hand and more about leaving them in the dust. There are just some t hing that are pretty important to know that it just doesn't even hint at. I can't point those things out for sure since I've veen playing the series for awhile now, but i remember just feeling lost for nearly two whole games before someone explained things to me

Superman jumping, Rapid fire and Auto-reload for bowguns, Blast Damage etc. None of those mechanics are ever properly explained which they should have been. For certain monsters you need to look at the wiki to find out what parts need to be broken to get certain items lest you waste hours farming parts you already have. certain status effects can be relieved by button mashing but theres never a prompt for it. They also nerfed a bunch of gems and this was only discovered through testing by the community

This review pretty much mirrors my thoughts on the game. One of my favorite things about how the gathering is better: Remember when killing Aptonoths and Apceros to get raw meat? Remember landing the killing blow and having to wait for them to actually DIE while they do their death flailing? No more. They hit the ground, twitch once and are ready for carving. I'm still going through the story right now but I do hope to eventually see you online, Jared!

I can only imagine elitists whining about accessibility. "The game's too dumbed down!" The reason I can only imagine it is because I've not seen it anywhere. There seems to be almost no elitists in the MonHun community in the way there is in fighting games, where every accessibility improvement is met with scoffs and moaning about how it fills the community with scrubs. And yeah, it'll suck for some people to get matched with clueless beginners, but most veteran players I've heard from have relished the thought of taking a chick under their wing. Add to that the "Adopt a Noob" system that allows people to sign up as a veteran or novice and get matched up to learn about the game, and you have a wonderful, friendly learning community. It's almost as if a cooperative PvE game about fighting big dumb monsters with big dumb weapons makes people happy. Well done, Monster Hunter!

I later got monster hunter generations and fell in love with it. Now this is one of my favorite game and series. I never knew how much i needed to play this game.

So, TL;DR: They decided to tone down the tedium in order to focus on making the game actually play like a modern game while not losing the spirit of Monster Hunter. Still a fucking grindfest, but then again, that's like complaining about the grinding in a Disgaea game.

"BACK IN MY DAY MONSTER HUNTER USED TO BE GRINDY NOW IS FULL OF CASUALS" But been serious here, I was one of those people who have a lot of mix feelings with this game. Most of all, the changes to the gameplay, but when I played the Beta I could see how good the game was. It delivers the true Monster Hunter experience for any veteran or newcomer to the franchise. Even some changes like running while you eat/drink have their own punishments in doing so. Like yes you can move, but If you dodge while drinking, you lose part of your health, wasting even MORE potions and materials. Finally I love that they got us back the old school gameplay for all the weapons, because my main weapon was the Charge Blade back in MH4U. But I got disappointed when I discover that in MH:Generations they kinda "nerfed?" the weapon. BUT NOW in MH:WORLD THE CHARGE BLADE IS BACK BABY WITH ALL HIS COMBOS/CANCELS/ELECTROSHOCKS AND MORE OP SHIT THAT MADE THE WEAPON SO GREAT WHEN IT CAME OUT. IM SOLD MAN. (At least I hope it was the case with all other weapons because I have only try the Charge blade :P)

Yup. All the weapons got a bit of loving. I'm a switch axe user with some minor gripes (mostly from axe mode attacks not charging sword gauge) but the phial awakening and the minimount combo, bonuses etc, I still love it. Every weapon was shown some love.

I have mixed feelings about the game also. I maybe a decent hunter, but I can't back up any other hunter in multiplayer since I don't have Playstation Plus, since the subscription give me a bad taste like Xbox Live does. I have a part time job, but that money is better spent buying new games and paying tuition, not be some World of Warcraft whale or lootbox mook. That is the most killing of flaws in a game that values skills and teamwork equally, when you have to keep paying for teamwork unlike 4 Ultimate. Maybe I should stick to PC and 3DS if MH World fails to keep me engaged after the end of the story. If Capcom's making a gamble on the series future this, I say they have a full house, but someone is going to pull off a straight or royal flush. Get back to bringing XX overseas if multiplayer is a problem. I would rather get to meet randoms of varying skills again than these new mechanics.

I don't get why people don't mention the tedious part of the multiplayer. It is totally broken atm if you ask me... It is just not "drop in/drop out" multiplayer. The key quests that is the single player missions is extremely annoying to get through since the player who posts the quests MUST watch the cutscene and progress in the posted mission before he/she can shoot a SOS flare. And when me and my bro tried it yesterday it disconnected us as soon as he sent SOS to the hub. And the game is totally deserted in that sense that no room exists. You can't just search for a specific target as you did before, instead you find... nothing. The player base will die off quickly if the multplayer doesn't get a fix soon.

But yeah, infinite pickaxes and bug nets is great along with auto gathering/auto crafting, along with being able to roll out of the way to cancel actions and not get hit. And showing what can be broken seems very helpful too. No more paintballs either thank God. That was an unnecessary pain. Same with being able to move while drinking a potion which is awesome. They made a lot of good changes and I'm glad they did

Domino D I'm getting the game as a newcomer too. I did purchase 4 Ultimate after World's announcement trailer, but I've only done like ten hunts. From playing World's beta, I think it's really easy to get into. Soon enough I was trying to beat my fastest times and showing my other friends how to play. If you've been interested in the series as have I, but never actually got into one of the games, this is the one to start with. It's reasuring to hear that ProJared, as a veteran from the beginning, has almost nothing but praise for the game as well.

I'm a veteran myself, played every game that's come to the US, I love this new game but there are a few things I dislike about this monster and they are, that fucking weapon tree system, it use to be so much easier to make and upgrade weapons, while they did add things like a wishlist (so helpful) the weapon tree system just feels weird to me; the other thing I don't really like is that this version doesn't feel like it has a lot of monsters (haven't played all the way through yet, Curse you social life obligations!) and I understand this is a new "world" I just wish we could fight some of the older monsters because there are a lot that would have some sick looking equipment in these graphics, plus my main bitc... i mean monster is Tigrex and as far as I know he's not in the game. hopefully they will add more of the older monsters like the pickle in the future.

Tronerfull not all of them, some of them. I don’t particularly like Great Jagras, then again the flesh dog looks fantastic, and the zombie! The main enemy elder dragon also looks and sounds very awesome being a more mobile version of Dire Miralis. However I know what you mean. In my opinion, I just think it’s the design of the game, you can’t really do anything about that. Even Rathalos looks kindve weird to me, Deviljho too. Monsters that I know distinctly. I dunno how I feel about lots of these changes. Quality of life changes in general are welcome but it seems like it's taking it to the extreme in this case. Previously bad potion timing could make or break you but now you can just sip and jog no problem? Running out of whetstones and harvest tools used to mean you had to scavenge for parts to craft it in the field, but now they're just free forever and infinite? With their own inventories? If you were in dire need of potion ingredients you had to get to a safe place to harvest them, but harvesting is now instant, crafting is automatic, and any and all vulnerable animations can be rolled out of? Like it or hate it good preparation and timing were an important part of successful hunts in previous games. My understanding of this just seems like the game doesn't punish the player for bad decisions like it should. At its core, this game seems like it's pushing half the old mechanics to the side to draw in new players expecting an instantly gratifying action game.

I felt sorry for one of my friends. I recently introduced him to Monster Hunter with this game since we never really had a Wii U or 3DS, he never got a psp/vita, and of course didn't know about the ps2 version. Well I let him try out the beta and he fell in love with the game. The big 'mistake' he did however was talking about it on some discord channel he is in and he said he enjoyed it because the style reminded him of the Souls games that he greatly loved. Then he learned that the discord channel had MH fans that didn't take too kindly to that comparison. I understood why they reacted but he played Demon Souls long before Monster Hunter

i dont like em cus they hit the bar sometimes before a hunt and get drunk when you need em to be trackin the monster and they cant figure out which direction is left, which one is right, and keep leading you around in circles for no good reason...doesnt happen all that often but its enough to piss ya off...Paintballs were much more loyal... also the big excuse for Scout Flies being the function is "keeps the combat flowing" and thats a lie...paintballs did that just fine because you chuck one, it smears the monster and for the next liek 10 minutes if it runs you can jsut chase it and resume the fight immediatly upon gettin to the monster, which because the paintballs tells you EXACTLY where the monster is, theres no fuss about how to find the monster, you just fuckin run to it! and theres no fuckin maze of vines or all these differing elevations making traversal difficult while trying to track down a large but highly mobile monster, and if the monster can fly then take that annoyance and amplify it by 100x

given that almost everything has internet access these days, i fail to see the problem also i prefer paintballs to scout flies, easier to track with :P

I have to agree that the scoutflies need more refining 😅

I don't know, honestly. I mean on one hand accessibility is nice but it is a double-edged sword when developers inevitably cut out features in favor of making the game easier for newbies to understand while alienating veteran players. I feel like a lot of the appeal for the game was the fact that you actually had to take time to prepare for monsters, rather than just run out and hope for the best. It seems tedious, but I actually enjoyed crafting things I needed, and making sure my inventory and gear were straightened out before heading out to hunt. It felt like it mattered, and that a successful hunt was because I prepared for it and did my homework rather than just stuffing as much into the autocrafter as possible. The scoutflies, while useful, are also amazingly intrusive as I'd rather not have a *GLOWING NEON SWARM* not only leading me to monsters like the fault of many modern games (quest markers), but they're just an eyesore. Lighting up the occasional footprint is nice, but usually there's so much shit on screen that I have more than once been carted because something angry was on the other side of the swarm and it noticed me before me (or the scoutflies) noticed it and fucked off so I can see. The handler's annoying. There's no dancing around that and I severely wish there was an option to trade out or just shut her up altogether. I'm fifty hours in and don't need this wannabe Tracer chiming in whenever something happens. Just...let me hunt the monster. This is Monster *Hunter* not Monster Commentary Section. Tons of little things irk me too. The lack of blood, the damage numbers (I know they can be turned off but I also know capcom won't listen to players like me that dislike these features) the fact that you can slinger back onto monsters that have thrown you off which feels like it trivializes the whole thing because why care about being thrown off if you can just hop right back on? Being able to basically farcaster at any time removes a lot of the threat from encounters because not only are there multiple camps (at least one of which will be close to your encounter) but you can just completely change your loadout there. Also the fact that there's effectively free potions just lying around most areas so you don't even need to worry too much about recovery item management. The Gathering Hub may as well not exist for how out of the way it is! Basically I feel like, because of some of these updates, a lot of the process of hunting doesn't matter anymore, and that hunting now just boils down to shitting out a lot of damage with little thought into how to go about it.

Threeshades they want to make sure it runs smoothly on PC. So they had to delay the pc release to make sure everything is ready.

Id rather wait 1 month than have a shitty pc port.

1 month is fine, but by what I last heard it won't be until fall. Also I wouldn't mind a shitty port if it got patched.

Threeshades that's not only bad for players but also for the company, and it's not like they would patch it before the time they would release it normally. Just be patient and avoid any other mhw videos in the meantime.
