This is the first time we saw Johan in action on screen and it's brilliant and also cruel. Johan's method here truly shows how much of a monster he is. He uses past mental scars, present actions and future worries, all of them to hurl psychological attacks at victim and break them down till there's nth but the empty shell. Plants doubt in every action they ever did and will do, that they can't even try to think straight. You have to be Ayanokouji level of coldness to resist Johan's manipulations. And that smile, that damned smile when he finally delivers the finishing blow, indicating he doesn't have a slightest bit of remorse in brutally ruining someone's life. The most pants-shittingly terrifying thing about Johan is that he is pretty much impossible to kill or defeat... He was programmed to become "perfect". Who knows, maybe Johan is a genius even at fighting/martial arts which makes him impossible to overpower, is the most talented person in the world at shooting and has eyes that would make you hesitate to kill him (he looks so kind and beautiful that you would hesitate to kill him, because he can manipulate you into NOT killing him). He is 100% perfect and that makes him inhuman and terrifying to hellish levels.... SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!! What makes this manga so horrifying is that we never truly find out what the fuck Johan is, since Johan isn't really his real name... If I'm completely honest, the MOST disturbing fact about Johan is that he REFUSES to change for the better. He doesn't want to know his true name or origin. He just wants the world to burn and be left alone as the sole survivor. Truly horrifying character...

Except with Light he only needed Naomi’s name in order to get her to commit suicide. Johan on the other hand had to manipulate Richard into doing the deed directly so his is more impressive imo
@catyumi81324 жыл бұрын
Yess!! This scene is super intense. But it reminds me of Light because they're both extremely manipulative. Even though Johan had a better performance, I still have to admit that the Scene with Naomi Misora was also pretty brilliant given the fact that she could be giving her name to a person that kills by knowing your name (and she was aware of it + she used to be a detective as well as Richard) and, somehow, he still brainwashed her. O_o

Funny story I have about this scene. I like to show people shows I've already seen. It sort of lets me watch it "for the first time" again vicariously, and it gives them a new show to enjoy. I was showing Monster to my younger brother. We watched maybe two to four episodes at a time, and one time he wanted to stop watching for the day at the episode before the one this scene happens in. I convinced him to watch one more. If I had to guess (this was years ago), I probably said that this show, with its seventy-four episodes, would take an eternity to finish at the rate we were watching. After this scene he gets that kind of expression of realization, annoyance, and amusement. He was all, "you knew this was going to happen in the next episode, didn't you? Now I have to watch the next one too." It was maybe a bit of a dick move but I knew it would be too funny to watch him react to that for me not to do it lol

I see everyone trying to be like johan i dont know why just people want to be monster inorder to prove that monster exist, the main aim of monster was to actually be the 'different' by not being a monster. Johan is pretty much the Joker of the anime world. Both are pretty much just normal humans, but they're iq and manipulative abilities are soooo great that it's dangerous
@ludonymous5263 жыл бұрын
@@N_Tertainment7 Yes. Hands down. And even then, the Joker himself would be legitimately freaked out by Johan, as unlike the Clown Prince of Crime himself, Johan has absolutely no sense of humor whatsoever and aside from doing his grisly murders and manipulating others to his advance, his actions are all portrayed dead seriously and done for horror, unlike the Joker who employed humor for his crimes. And another difference here is that Johan is just inhumanely calm when doing this, being incredibly calculating when carrying out his schemes of bringing ruin and chaos everywhere he goes and treating them really seriously, unlike the Joker who while still a brilliant criminal mastermind, mostly treated his nefarious schemes like a childishly twisted game. In other words, all of those aspects being together bring a realism-induced horror that's absolutely beyond human comprehension, and that's why Johan Liebert is such a terrifying and awesome villain.

Johan and Light are the two sides of a coin. While Johan has a terrible history, Light doesn’t but still possesses criminal mind and tendency to act cruelly. While Light has his own weapon, Johan also has his psychological terror tactics as his weapon. Both are heartless no matter what their backstory is. But in terms of methodological and tactis, patience, carefullness, we still have to give it to Johan. Light did several fatal mistakes that lead him to the corner and nobody could counterattack Johan until at the end of his misson. I think the most distinctive aspect between Monster and Death Note is that while Light has the ability to kill L, Tenma and Johan won’t and don’t have the ability to kill each other in the first place even though Tenma has trained for it for months. It is more heartbreaking as both of them love and care for each other. I’m really sad Tenma has to bid goodbye to Johan, his love for Tenma definitely grew as he saved him for the second time, being already lack of love and bear such heavy burden for hurting her sister and Tenma, I think that what’s corner him to his suicide
