MM never ceases to amaze me. Every single album they put out is a classic on its own terms. And Dave is the ultimate rock'n'roller. Great singer, superb songwriter.
@spoogemop6 жыл бұрын
It's so odd. They are, on their own rights, an amazing band. Then they play Hawkwind tracks, that end up sounding better than almost any of their own stuff and often better than the Hawkwind originals! Now I want to hear Hawkwind cover 'Monolithic', just for parity. Stunning. Thank you.
@timroberts87603 жыл бұрын
Not Hawkwind this is Bob Calvert’s solo album Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters and the Right Stuff off same album
@Trichocaulon3 жыл бұрын
@@timroberts8760 True, but Bob´s musicians on the album have been five Hawkwind-members. Plus Paul Rudolph and Arthur Brown who also worked with Hawkwind later...
@robertstanley55552 жыл бұрын
There is something of a genre flip. MM can perform several HW tracks as better heavy rock songs, but they never really managed (or tried) the distinctive Hawkwind space-rock sound. You appreciate that most live, when HW stray into the extended hypnotic/trance stuff that never really makes it onto any of their studio albums, except a couple released in the early '90s.

@@henrylicious For my knowledge, neither "The Right Stuff" or "Ejection" are Hawkwind songs. They are both solo efforts from Bob Calvert. Check out "Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters" from 1974! But yes, Hawkwind sometimes included both songs in their live set.

@psychedelicfright856 жыл бұрын
Mastermind was the most boring and overproduced. Cobras and Fire fixed it thankfully. Last patrol was more of a return to their psychedelic roots, minus the drugs, and less of a bland hard rock influence.
@adolpholiverbush26 жыл бұрын
For my money, "Monolithic, Baby!" was their creative zenith. I know many pontificate about the early drug-addled classics, but Monolith is crushing, from start to finish. And Mastermind had many great cuts. Wasn't too big on Last Patrol OR 4 Way Diablo, tho there were some gems.

Two things sold me my ticket to the Monster Magnet train and made me realize what id been missing all along: catching the encore of an opening slot in which the first thing i saw were baby bat gothy kiddies rolling their jaded young eyes at Dave Wyndorf face down humping the stage in full knowledge of the non-ironic rock n roll idiocy (a thing I'm a sucker for as i can recall the days when there was no irony to this stuff) of this classic Iggy Pop (and others) stage antic. This thrn led me to pick up their latest at the time Monolithic which is a banger beginning to end w non-stop references including multiple Alice Cooper Group references and finally practically came in my panties w extacy when the excellent Captain Lockheed And The Starfighters Ejection hit my ears. Now Hawkwind is a band i have a stack of vinyl 2 1/2 ft high and still dont have everything by a long road. Proving space rock/psychedelia didnt have to be pretentious and up your own ass and good fun w 2 and 3 chord protopunk flavor and references to works by the likes of Zelazney and JG Ballard. I hunted at every used record shop in town which i scoured every payday for that Robert Calvert album which fully paid off when i finally got my fingers on a copy of for $2.50 (ah, those salad days)) which failed to not be a Hawkind affair but allowances must always be made for this legend band that inspired the likes of Alien Sex Fiend and Zodiac Mindwarp. So yeh, it didnt take much and my soul, already promised to satan got a little piece sliced away and mailed to MM postage due.

I love MM. However, Wyndorf misses the mark here. It's on the chorus. On the higher pitch gtr chord (the third chord on the chorus), the vocal follows the pitch of the guitar in the original. That makes the song. Make it blend and rock. My opinion, but I have to throw it out for someone to vent on. May as well be you internet, thank you for letting me vent. Trivial, but it's late and me bored
