It's beneath the dignity of a knight to have to carry around his own stuff, so maybe give him a squire. The dragon could also use some henchmen, maybe a goblin or two to boss around.

@@grandempress1947 I ran this encounter twice before this one, in order to familiarize myself with the fighter. The first one, the knight barely won. The second one, the knight and the dragon both nearly killed each other, and the knight escaped the cave with both him and the dragon down to a sliver of hp.

I played a computer game called Spellforce ages ago and there was a mini game using the rock, paper scissors method but with dragon, king and knight. King beats knight, knight beats dragon and dragon beats king. What an awesome fight!

I ran a 5th level war cleric 1v1 against 13:18 a young white dragon and the war cleric won. Not surprised that a lvl 6 Battlemaster wiped the floor with this wyrmling.

03:00 To be fair, the breath weapon has a 15 ft. range, more than enough to fly above the knight out of his reach and blast him with fire on a strafing run whenever the breath weapon recharges.

Esper, do you think this would be an interesting idea: a druid and some plant based monsters like awakened trees fight against one mind flayer and a few thralls. The mind flayer wants to establish a base within the druid's domain and the druid wants to eliminate this unnatural aberration.

Good Fight. That new rule about multiple thrown attacks does quite a bit to shore up fighters' DPS. I'm not in love with being able to do it with both hands filled, but details. It works well for stuff like this!

I'm not as familiar with 2024, what was negating all damage from the breath weapon with the fighter's successful dex saves? Normally even a success gives you half damage.

@danpgrady - I don't follow current DnD. I think 5E sucks. They've destroyed the entire concept of Dragons and combat in my opinion. Shield Master, Spell Master, Sword Master..... it's all a bunch of nonsense to me. But the videos Esper does are usually entertaining. I like his stories, his role playing. I'm old school. From the 1985 to 2000 era. This new stuff is basically like a board game or video game to me. Did the Knight have magic vision to see in the dark? No. Have you ever seen a Komodo Dragon run? They attack Buffalo without fear. Not even lions do that. They're solid muscle. Almost impenetrable armor. You think Red Dragons are equal to a Komodo Dragon or better? I don't think Dragons should be anywhere as dumb, slow, or easy to hit as a Komodo lizard. I'm not aiming my comments at you. Just stating that 5E has made combat boring. Dragons shouldn't be like an alligator with wings.

Hank - That baffled me too. It's like the breath weapon was as narrow as an arrow. And only 15 foot range? 😂😂😂 5E has killed Dragons completely. I could see avoiding ALL damage if the shield were a body shield, size very large. But not against a Dragon. But we have to remember Esper is working with the current 5E system according to specific written rules in the Monster Manual. The heat from a Red Dragon shouldn't be like an oven at home. Even a young Red should have impressive fire breath. And it should be much longer than its body. Much! 15 feet is ridiculous. That is Melee. Red Dragon breath should naturally cause the Heat Metal spell effect for a minimum of 1 round.

Not necessarily. Red dragons aren't known for being particularly protective of their young. This wyrmling very well could be the last of its clutch after its mother left the lot to take care of themselves.

I thought Dragons would be strong, fast, armor of steel, naturally magical and intelligent. This was a medium sized alligator with a torch and lame wings. 😒

A group of bandits hurry with stolen loot. They seek a haven to count up the acquired booty. However, they find themselves stumbling into a forbidden ritual circle. Cultists lead by either a priest or a cult fanatic are not impressed or amused by the filthy bandits who dare crash their ritual. CR-wise it is identical, can also be an interesting story. Possibly there are slaves or peasants who cry for help while the cultists try to spill their blood for their dark masters.

1345/74D The reason the battle master has a DC is so you don't have to make up challenge for the target creature. When the dragon has to save vs the trip maneuver it should have made a Dex. / Acrobatics save at DC15, and there was no real reason to give the dragon advantage on the save.

I bought 2 books off of you. I think you have an amazing mind. You really blew it here with letting the knight trip and downed foe. Thats just not cool in my opinion. Lame. Exploits ruin everything. The extra die of damage comes from knocking the foe to the ground off balanced. How on earth can you justify this debauchery of physics? Secondly, in my opionion 4 legged creatures should be immune to trip. Try to trip a dog. They would just lift 1 leg and bite you. A dragon has 4 legs 2 wings and a tail. If we are tripping dragons with a leg sweep in dungeons and dragons now i quit.

Did I like this fight? No. Where was the dragons spells? Where was his thralls? Does his mom have a spell on him to feel when he dies? Usually dragons have at least a few orcs or kolbolds tribe or tribes as guards.
