I think a flaming skull could be a cool concept for am undead librarian. He can fly 60 feet to reach any high shelves, and use "mage hand" to hold and flip through books. He could also use "mage hand" to do things like hold his chin while he thinks, or scratch his head.

Imagine a level 20 wizard transformed into a Flameskull. That is a legitimately terrifying threat, capable of wiping out even decently strong parties with contemptuous ease.

Super late, but Skulllords have evasion because they are a mixture of Fighter/Rogue/Wizard. Giving them features from all.

I created a skull lord that was a necromancer follower of myrkul, a general, and a spymaster. He would speak in three voices then occasionally throw in a side comment in just one voice that that he didn't realize was out loud. Then when he was alone the heads argued about whether to study, train with the staff, or practice lock picking, each activity completely boring to the other two heads. He was a fun temporary companion.

I had a very long and stupid drive today to the wrong airport and then had to have another long and stupid drive to a different airport because I was told to go to the wrong one and on the way listened to this episode and had a BIG belly laugh at 17:11 Also it's been a while since I've listened and am now catching up but I wanted to let you know I've been in a real bad place emotionally for a while and my DnD sessions have always been something to look forward to each week that felt really constructive and fun and worth all the BS and every time I listen to one of your informative episodes it brightens my day and reinvigorates my passion for DMing and DnD in general

I continue to serve the dungeoncast!!! this servant can't help but wonder what would it be like if Lord will and Lord Brian were merged into a skull Lord. can you imagine the absolute paradise that would be? getting stuck to Brian for eternity and always hearing his jokes. though they'd need one more person to become a skull Lord. I wonder who could be considered worthy enough to merge with the god of knowledge and the god of laughter themselves? man all of this deep thinking has me all tuckered out... hey everybody! welcome to this week's comments short rest! where I'm going to talk about love! but I'm not going to talk about how much I love all of you (though my love for every last one of you burns hotter than a red dragons breath) no I'm going to talk about the perfect gift you can give your loved ones! and that gift is...three stacked skulls! for what object is more beautiful, more loving than three skulls stacked on top of eachother? so go out and find three skulls to stack on each other today! because even though the three skulls will hate each other, your loved one will only love you more! now back to the comment proper! ok looks like I'm rested up and ready to finish this comment! ok so I have multiple ideas to share for anyone interested. idea 1. ok so picture this. you have a beholder, and that beholder removes his center eye to better practise traditional magic. but he replaces the eye with a giant magical gemstone of some sort. at first this gem gives the beholder a big power boost to its magic but eventually it's revealed that the giant gem is the phylactery of a slain lich, and the gem still contains that liches soul! so now you have the body of a beholder that contains the mind (or minds if the beholder already had a split personality) of the beholder and the mind of the lich. so while this being is very powerful it also works agonist itself because the minds don't get along. you can also expand upon the idea and say that because the beholder had the mind of an undead creature inhabiting its body that when it slept it dreamed of undeath and became a death tyrant. now you have a multi minded death tyrant with a magical gem lich phylactery for an eye. idea 2. what if you used three hydra to make a homebrewed variant of a skull lord? let's say each hydra has five heads. you'd end up with a 15 headed skeletal hydra monstrosity. if you went with how the skull lords worked in previous editions and made their heads get destroyed after taking out so much health, you could include some kind of mechanic for the fight where after so many turns the destroyed heads reform and regain their powers. anyways that's about it for this week. I hope anybody that actually read this far enjoyed my dumb humor and liked my ideas. feel free to use them anytime of course. have a good day all who read this. :)

i have a undying warlock with a flame skull companion. my warlock has like no personality so it's fun to have the insane flame skull. i was put on the spot with a name and all I could think of is "Skully"

Thank you for this episode. I'm working on a game for halloween/my daughters 7th birthday using mostly undead (we'll be rescuing some dragons from a [necromancer]princess). I think a pair of slightly insane flame skulls is exactly what I need in one spot.

@@sharlharmakhis280 I think there will be 2 of them, not completely sane. The PC's will be trying to sneak into castle via some caverns that have an underground river. Originially I was going to make it more combative with skeleton archers or something on the opposite side, but I've was wanting something more of a puzzle and think I will use the flameskulls (FS) as guardians. Their job is to prevent unauthorized people from taking boats and using them to cross the river. The FS have been down there so long the boats are rotten and unusable anyway but as long as the PC's don't touch the remains or irritate the flameskulls too much there won't be a fight, at least from them. So far my daughter has been good about using words before fighting and I want to try and encourage that some more.

among my circle of friends, there is a dumb idea for skull lord personalities: 1 head is Skeletor from He-Man, 1 head is Ainz Oowl Gown from Overlord, and the third head is Papyrus from Undertale.

So if you are a Necromancer and you snag a Cleric or Druid or Bard skull can you make a flameskull with those spells lists? Also wouldn’t a bardic Skull Lord be freaking awesome? They could harmonize and sing different parts to the same song.

With the Flame Skulls on top of each other... Once per round, they can take it's top skull and throw it as a flaming skull(looks almost like a pumpkin lol). If it hits vs ac, the Skull deals 1d12 fire damage and returns to the body. On a miss, the skull becomes a separate entity, and is treated as a normal Flame Skull(using it's normal attacks/skills next round...? Just a fun idea :)
