OMg I didnt know you guys did The Monster! Watched it recently and not only was the film pretty great but it was SO refreshing to not only see a return of practical effects for the creature but a wonderfully crafted and well designed one too! The fact the monster is animatronic instead of CG adds so much to the film.

I allways felt that in movies all the details of those creatures are hidden by the Lighting team, if was a director,I would want all the details to shine through.

That'd be nice. But in a horror film, it's usually scarier if there's a limited amount of lighting and coverage on the creature itself. It helps add more to the imagination. For example, the difference between how they shot and lit the Xenomorph in _Alien_ and the Protomorph in _Alien: Covenant._ Because of the limited coverage on the full body of the Xenomorph, it felt scarier. But when you pretty much see the whole body of the Protomorph, it wasn't as scary or mysterious.

Can anyone else imagine how big the head would've had to be back in the day? Or how little expression it would've had if tech wasn't so advanced? This is what made me scared of this thing

Who said this looks like alien? It looks like a hellhound but worse. It just looked that way cause of the lighting being dark in the movie

The build is good and I'm always up for a solid practical, but I must confess that the budget shows in the overall bland design of the monster proper. Ape silhouette slathered in Giger skin w/ limited facial detail and locomotion, and a patagium that doesn't make much sense considering the undoubtedly great weight of the creature. Again, I understand a low budget, but I think Bertino and ADI could have gotten something on camera that would have been a little more interesting to look at. As for the comparisons to Pumpkinhead? Pumpkinhead for the win and it's not even a contest.
