I've been after a Peru and mentioned this to my friend. He had a very sickly cutting that was given to him by another friend and he gave it to me. It had one yellow leaf when I took it and I was damned glad to have it, believe me. I brought it home and it promptly dropped its leaf, but it has really good roots and a little blemish on the stem that's come to be known as The Nubule. I changed out the soil to something a little more loose and airy, plopped it in my Please Don't Die pot and set it in the hospital ward. Nubsy is getting bigger every day. It's about the size of a worrisome mole as of today and I couldn't be happier. I can't wait for the fella to get a leaf. I heard these were part of the Costa release this year, but I haven't seen any in stores. I'm sure that will happen right around the time The Nubule becomes a real leaf.

See that’s such a good story! They seem to be so resilient and badass, I love them so much. This is actually the first I’ve heard of them being part of costas release though. Part of me hopes it’s not true because sometimes I feel like coasta farms takes the fun out of finding rare gems and just mass markets them. I also heard that plant stores aren’t allowed to sell certain plants that coasta produces because of like a monopoly on the specific plants and I’d hate if that would happen to Peru😔

This is literally the video i needed!!! I just got a monstera peru yesterday and it only came with 2 leaves and 1 dropped right after i watered it🥲🥲 still dont know why buttttt .... this video helps so so much

I’m so glad I could help a bit!! They are super resilient so I think even if you lost a leaf pull back on the watering a bit and it should bounce right back!

Very nice! The actual name is Philodendron opacum 'Green Goddess' and they are not a Monstera. Per Key Gardens, the world's authority on tropical plant names, Monstera karstenianum is a nomen nudum or invalid name in any case. There are three different Monstera called "Peru" and that is just a provenance name, not a cultivar name.

I bought monstera peru for RM18 in Malaysia, and it already rooted and have trailing leaves... just a sad thing about some local nursery over here love clay soil mix with black soil,that cause my monstera a bit pale on younger leaves and skinny root... Well i repot it with better mix soil i hope it grows better than before...

Hey Jessie. After watching your vid I’m starting to think my cutting is a lost cause. I’ve tried water, then perlite and haven’t noticed any root growth. My cutting was shipped wrapped in wet paper towel and I’m starting to think that may have caused rot. Guess I could try sphagnum moss. What’s the longest it’s taken your peru props to see progress? Thx

I would say that the longest my Peru have taken to push out growth was somewhere around 2-3 weeks? That’s in water which I have found takes the longest. Perlite I think has the lowest chance or rot so if that’s what you’re worried about, I would go that route!

Did you notice about ur monstera Peru that loses its bumpy texture on leaves, specialy close to the stems? I cannot figure it out, does it need more water?

I’ve personally never see that! Not have I heard of anyone with that problem. But one thing I could think of might be that the bottom doesn’t get enough light. More often than not, the top parts of plants are positioned to receive the most light so sometimes bottom leaves will respond in weird ways to try and conserve themselves. I can’t say for sure that’s your issue but that would be my first guess!

I wish I could recommend it so you wouldn’t have to buy anything else but to be fully transparent with you I don’t think it would work as well. Sphagnum seems to let a lot more air circulate than peat and this is really crucial to prevent rot!

As I said in the video, I had this plant a bit too close to my grow light which is where it got a bit singed. Once I pulled it away, the tips stopped burning😌

I just love the texture and I’m planning to do the same thing I’m so excited .🥰🪴 I love propagating I normally do water propagation but this year I used a mini green house method using pumice for krimson princess hoya stems and it worked well 🤗

I’m not sure where you are located but you paid a lot of money for this plant 🥴 i can recommend checking out The Perfect Choice Nursery on instagram and see their rare plants- they ship and prices are very reasonable:-) i hope this helps:-)

Thanks for the recommendation! Where I’m located the local nurseries we’re asking $80 for them! So I had to order from Etsy. But I’ve never heard of perfect choice so I’ll definitely check them out!
