In the USA Texas specifically it is super common to find I the big box stores. And it is between $15-$19. I just received a cutting from a friend and I’m super excited. I love the textured leaves!!

I am living in germany and I find it to be a relatively fast growing plant. I‘ve placed it on a southern window, and fertelize it as the instructions tell. In my conditions it grows up to two leaves a month.

I love that you have the mati by your plants. I do too! I’ve had my peru for 3 ish years and it started off very slow but as it’s pest free and quite pretty, I was ok with that. It sat in a ssw window without a shade and was ignored until I found a 6’ vine twining all over a nearby hanging plant. I chopped it up and found it propagates slow in water but loves perlite. My take is it’s slow to get started but once it does, it’s reliable for 2 leaves a month with no drama, very little care requirements and it still makes me very happy.
@paxleidig53272 ай бұрын
@@AndYourLittleDog I have had the same experience. I live in South Carolina (US) and have cared for mine for about 3 years. It was relatively slow growing until this summer when I moved it outside into dappled sunlight. I gave it a pole to climb and within a month I had two or three new leaves. That rate continued through the summer with the leaves getting larger and larger. My largest leaves are now about 4-5" wide and 7-8" long. I use a water meter to determine when the pot is completely dry. I'm growing in aroid mix with a little potting soil added. This results in watering about once a month and I use a dilute liquid fertilizer every time.

Fun fact, the "karstenianum" come from another misidentification. It was sold as Philodendron karstenianum wich was once an accepted name (not for this plant at all obviously). Once it was obvious it was a Monsteracea, people called either Epipremnum "Marble Planet" or Monstera karstenianum, before some botanist confirmed it was an undescribed Monstera. The fun part, some people heard of this story and decided to "correct" the name, and since Philodendron karstenianum is now under Philodendron opacum now, I have seen people selling it under that name. And... It's probably not from Peru anyway. And it grow so slowly noone have a mature one yet, some old plants do fenestrate but they are yet too yound to bloom (and be properly compared to other Monstera)

Hey hey hey 👋 I can always count on your with the awesome info. I did not know most of that! It is really interesting to see that it has had such a long history of misidentification! And Yeah, I thought that it might be due to them being so slow growing that we have not seen any mature folliage yet. 💚🌿

I found a beautiful, full monstera Peru in my big box store for $20!!! I have had this plant for 9 months and in that time it’s gotten thrips 😩and lost at least half of its leaves. Since then it hasn’t grown at all and leaves will yellow and die off periodically. It makes me sad but I’ve decided I like the plant so much that if I come across another one I will buy it and put them together. Hopefully someday it’ll be full and lovely again!!!

I've left mine in an unheated greenhouse that gets down to around 0°C at night, and it did not like it at all. Granted, I've received it with sunburns all over, but still, I won't be doing that next winter :) Luckily I've rooted a spare cutting in pon (that took several months to grow roots and even longer for a leaf), and the stems left over in soil from the "frozen" one are also starting new growth points. As for availability, it's not difficult to find in Slovenia, mostly from private collectors, but can be found in some specialised plant shops.

I love this plant, I put it outside during the summer in the shade an grows so fast!!! 💚💚💚 Probably faster than pathos. Needs heat an humidity to do well. Very slow to prop. Got a 1 leaf cutting in 2019, 30$ got a 5$ rehab from Lowes last spring.

I love my Monstera Peru! I found mine at my local grocery shop so I purchased two so I could give one to my daughter. They were still hard to find and just started hitting the market this year, I found it in April. I have found that you’ll have to water it more than normal since it’s in a clay pot. Clay pots are porous…I have mine in a 6” plastic pot with a D-shape moss pole. I keep mine by a south facing window but it doesn’t get a lot of light because of where I placed it. Growth is slow for me right now…my daughters is growing faster but she’s got hers in different lighting conditions.

It may sound weird, but I love the entire Monstera genus and honestly its a bit of a selling point that its a Monstera that won't grow super fast and outgrow my space. I haven't adopted one yet but its pretty high on my list.

I bought mine 4 years ago, and I went off it as it was pushing out leafless tendrils, so I pretty much ignored it other than chucking some water in its direction. Now I actually really like it, it’s trailing down a bookcase beside a south facing window and it’s looking quite good now. Never had pests, low 40’s humidity and can cope with going dry, so easy care. The taxonomy mix up is quite frustrating. Great video as usual, thanks 😊

0:12 hi! Your Monstera Peru video just came at the right time when I don’t know whether to pole or trellis mine. The Peru is not common out here but again it is also not hard to find if you are looking. (Philippines) I have the variegated variety though. Also have the pinapartita, infant and toddler version. I saw a really mature one which is humongous. I will try to post the photos. Thanks

This plant was scarce in Florida for a long time but I finally got a small 2 leaved plant 2 years ago. Now you can get full baskets of them in big box stores. I find it very slow growing, maybe speeding up a bit with age/humidity. Drought tolerant, like most monstera. I use chunky aroid mix and feed weakly every watering. I only tried propping in water and it was so slow! I tried growing it outdoor and it has barely rooted into the bark of the tree and it grew about 5 feet tall over last year, pretty cold tolerant but the leaves haven’t really sized up much at all. Surprising bc pothos types increase in size so quickly on the tree. I have pinnipartita also outdoor very slow growing and not sizing up or splitting. Maybe it’s a light thing? The inter node spacing is small so I just can’t figure it out. No pests ever so that’s nice. I do love the texture of the leaves and the easy care. Thank you for thinking to feature this plant! I hope your renovations are going well!

Yes, it's on the slower growing side sadly for me too. The roots grow fast for me but pushing the next leaf takes a while. Maybe as it matures it'll be quicker?! Although I doubt that 😅 Mine is growing under grow lightsnin normal house conditions. I am in Melbourne Australia, and the temperature variations are wild. So it's a tough plant. Cool video Memo, thanks!

Fantastic review again! I got a cutting a few weeks ago. Everyone that has a Peru seems to LOVE them. I was on the fence getting one and have to admit, if it wasn’t a monstera, I wouldn’t have gotten it. Now having it, I really like the leaf texture. It feels like my jewel Alocasia had a baby with an epipremnum. Actually glad to hear they grow slow. I was worried it wasn’t liking its new home. Still wondering, how is it a monstera? I’ve never seen one fenestrate. Classification of plants stumps me a lot.
@ilikeframboise Жыл бұрын
Yes! This is exactly the reason I got it. Reminded me of a Vining alocasia! I have a lot of alocasias, and I treat my peru the same way. Fertilize with every water. Bright indirect light. Room humidity at 40-50% and its thriving. Got the cutting in the Fall of last year and it doubled in size growing at least 1 leaf per month.

In my experience I have found that it needs light, heat, and humidity to see it’s best growth. They seem to like it warm with high humidity.

.. I got my Monstera Peru about 3 months ago from my garden center when suddenly it turned up, and since then it kinda disappeared again.. Now it's back, but in a different garden center only with a new name "epipremnum marble planet"?? .. .. I couldn't help falling in love with the foliage, and after 2 weeks I gave it a clay pot, my own very very chunky soil mix (the roots will needs to breathe or they will rot in stead) and a moss pole to climb.. Since then it has giving mee 2 new leaves and 3 more are on the way.. I give it destilled water (it is as sensitive as a Calathea with tap water), as I do all my plants, and only half the strength fertilizer.. But, it sometimes needs extra magnesium on top of the fertilizer, so that I have to add.. It loves warmth (up to 30 c) , high humidity (50 - 70 %) and bright indirect light (no sun as it will burn the leaves), but it hates cold and drafts as that will kill it.. I keep the foliage clean from dust using a neem oil solution that I make.. It will also keep any pests away.. I hope.. I keep it crowded with other plants that need the same care, and it seems to like it..

I think I must have a rogue plant because mine is in soil, in a self-watering set-up, sulks when it gets too dry and is growing quite quickly. 🤔As soon as a new leaf unfurls it starts on the next one. It might be because it's been sat in a large plastic storage container for the last 3 months while we wait to move, so it'll probably go back to being a normal plant when it's taken out and placed in it's final home. Maybe the higher humidity suits this plant 🤷♀Also it doesn't get a ton of light. I do love the texture of this plant, and with how it's growing for me I would give it a solid 9/10. If it wasn't like all Monsteras and such a Thrips magnet I would actually give it 10/10.

I bought this Monstera in February 22 in 10cm pot. In March (1 month later), it was so pot bound that I had to repot it in a 14cm pot. And then, problems arrived 😁... The plant literally exploded, pushing up several growths in the same time. For me, that was OK till around 1,50m long. Then, I only get looonnnnggg tendrils, Infinite tendrils, awfully leaf less nude prolific tendrils. In spite of several cutting back, my Monstera gave me beautiful new leaves followed by tendrils. And in mid December I decided to give my plant to a dear friend for whom it still produce tendrils with one or two leaves every 60/70cm. I don't think it's a problem of light intensity as I grow my plants on shelves under good LED and I have a very good success with many genus (including hoyas that sunstress and bloom). I guess this species, as it mature, try to explore it's surrounding in order to colonize other trees and bushes and to propagate.
