I mean, it could be possible that the other hot spots of ancient energy are essentially "substations" that are delivered energy from the castle, then distributing it to the various labs. Theory: The seal on ganondorf was allowing the shiekah technology to keep going, like a battery. In the post credits cutscene, Zelda mentions vah rutah "looks like it has stopped working" ( *which you mentioned* ) . Maybe Zelda and Link go to investigate the reason for all the shiekah technology shutting down, and find ganondorf awakening. So no shiekah slate in the sequel. *Edit in bold*

Ok hear me out- A lot of Zonai related locations in BoTW have striking resemblance to Castor Wilds in Minish Cap. The ancient central/south american theme, the jungle, the swamps. And what else is in Castor Wilds? An ancient temple filled and surrounded with Armos and Eyegores and other such things. So what if the Zonai had their own, even more ancient technology? I mean, that's just my theory at least. I think guardians and Sheikah tech are completely seperate from the kind of technology that Armos represent. Similar, but different, possibly by design.

@@aylinilya. It's possible but I would venture that the Shiekah Monk's built the shrines prior to their technology being demonized and taken away. If Calamity Ganon took over the guardians and destroyed the kingdom they likely wouldn't have had the chance to build them then because of all the chaos (nor would the King of Hyrule have the power to force them to give up the technology). That leave only before the ancient calamity to work with, but then why did they only see and prepare for the calamity that would happen 10,000 years from now and not the one they were facing? All the shrines link faced are clearly one time use (otherwise the Shiekah Monks wouldn't disappear after giving the spirit orbs) so they weren't reused. Things are just too Stange with that outlook, the only way the shores make sense is if they had managed to succeed in sealing Ganon the first time and then foresaw the great calamity and prepared for it in the period before the King took away their technology. The story is probably a little romanticized but I think they were pretty clearly successful.

History is written by the winners after all. Could be a case of the Sheika making all this tech, it gets instantly corrupted, heavy losses occur and the King gets mad, ordering them to either dispose of the stuff or be executed. Some annoyed Sheika then make the tapestry, documenting how they won ect, but making it seem like the glorious victory was all down to them, only to be spurned by the unthankful king.

@SkeleGem
@SkeleGem 3 жыл бұрын
Gonna be real here, I don’t think the Sheikah Tech will be absent from BotW 2, at least not completely. The tech was waaaay too prevalent to just be tossed to the side and excused as them running out of Power. If this were a new era than they could totally get away with it, but a direct sequel missing one of the biggest story elements completely wouldn’t make a ton of sense. I personally think we’ll see the Sheikah Slate go missing (possibly with Zelda if she’s in trouble again) so Link can start from scratch again, and the roll of the tech will be lessened greatly (as to make it less stale), but still there in some form. As for the absence of tech things in the trailer, that can be easily explained several ways. First is that it’s a very early build of the scenes with the tech missing, or deliberately left out. Second is that the trailer isn’t super clear visually. We can clearly see no Slate on Link or Zelda, but the shot of Hyrule is too bright and blurry to see *any* land marks, including objects as relatively small as the Sheikah tech. I think the tech will still be there, but I also don’t think we’ll be using that tech since we won’t have the Slate, making the Towers and Shrines useless (and they’ll probably do something to greatly change the map anyways to differentiate from BotW’s map, so that’ll probably affect the tech too).
@Vixin24
@Vixin24 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree. I think that makes the most sense. I can see the towers and shrines being there as like map features to connect it with botw but probably not relevant to botw2's story or gameplay. And I like the idea of the slate going missing to explain it's absence

I think that the line of malice going upwards was what powered sheikah tech. The green hand may have filtered the malice to the blue shiekah liquid in the towers and all the tech. Maybe 10,000 years ago, they kept Ganondorf as a “battery” for sheikah tech

Personally, I hope at least some of the sheikah tech returns in some way, or that there's a really good explanation in-game for it's absence. A lot of the things that botw did differently from "traditional" zelda games (non-linearity, open world, link not wearing the same old green clothes with a slight variation from the previous iteration) are the main reasons why I love the game so much, and the ancient yet advanced technology provided by the ancient sheikah was a nice way to break up the series's trend of being technologically locked in the medieval era, while not going too far or over-the-top and adding stuff like firearms or spaceships. In the end, if all the ancient tech is gone(and by extension, the slate), I hope they do something new and unique to replace the slate(such as link's fancy new arm), rather than go back down the road of "magic musical instruments."

I think Zonai magic will be the replacement for the Sheikah technology. I also think the underground of Hyrule will be one of the main settings of the game. In the Creating a Champion book, there is concept art of organic guardians. Maybe the Sheikah based the design of the robot guardian on organic guardians that live beneath Hyrule. Kind of reminds me of how Bombchus in OoT and MM are artificial recreations of “Real Bombchus” which are an enemy seen in MM.

(I intended to add this on to my original comment, but I guess it'll work as a reply) Edit: also, on the topic of 17:56, although I'd rather not have the beasts return as "dungeons" again, I hope the concept they were based on does. I liked thier concept of having one end goal, but leaving the path to said goal up to the player, rather than forcing them through a specific route like, say, OoT's dungeons. However I would like for them to be expanded on so that one beast takes less than 20 minutes, boss fight included. Add some extra optional objectives that can reward players for going out of thier way, resulting in shortcuts, rewards, or even lowering the difficulty of the dungeon's boss in some way(provides they're not as easy as botw's bosses to begin with).

I think it's a safe bet that the Sheikah Slate isn't returning. It was clearly designed around the Wii U controller and while the Switch in handheld mode kind of works with it, the intention was that the Wii U gamepad would be your out-of-game analog similar to the Wiimote's relationship to Skyward Sword's Goddess Sword. I'm actually really interested what the sequel's gimmick will be because whatever it is, has to be consistent with every control scheme on the Switch. For the first time since the Wind Waker, they have to stick with established technology to interact with the game, so I'm excited to see how they make this work.

easy to forget? EASY. TO. FORGET???? I've been hoping for another hyrule warriors since I started playing on switch, I COULD NOT be more excited that we're getting a BOTW warriors prequel, I'm losing my mind waiting. And every second im thinking about it or playing the demo im thinking how awesome botw2 is going to be- because how can you not?? age of calamity is an awesome slap in the face. a constant reminder of what's about to come. who in their right mind is forgetting about the mind-blowing hype monster that is the botw2 trailer lmao this is going to be such a long comment lol im so sorry if anyone bothers to read this owo' I'm so so excited for the possibility of sheikah tech becoming nonfunctional. I love it, I love the aesthetic, I love the functionality - but I also REALLY love all the attention and detail put into horses and the master cycle kinda makes it hard to keep them around lol. its just too much fun to bounce off walls and Skyrim-climb mountains. The trailer showing no sign of tech was a huuuuge hype moment for me, but then I also subscribed to Zeltik's theory that the energy sheikah tech runs on is connected to the luminous stones/ghosts/dead ppl energy, so I couldn't figure out how the tech would suddenly shut off if this power source was still so clearly abundant in the trailer (and ganon was still sitting around, so if they programmed it to be dormant when he wasn't a threat or something then it would still be on) I like the theory here that their tech runs on malice (if that's what this was, maybe I misinterpreted) because then that explains how the sheikah could have it up and operational right when ganon's a threat. it just ties everything together super nicely and I could ramble on and on. My only problem with that is like.. why would everything shut off if the energy source is still spewing out power? its the same trouble as the energy being tied to the luminous stones. We still see ganon spitting out tons of malice. So the power's there- why would the tech suddenly stop having access to it? why shut down? im probably just missing something obvious but im crazy excited and I can't wait to see what they do instead of sheikah tech

(Making a second comment as my first one is arealdy rather long) So I just thought of this, but what if rather than abandoning it, botw2 actually capitalizes on the ancient sheikah and thier technology story-wise. What if Link and Zelda, upon investigating Ruta(and possibly waking up ganondorf as a result), discover that the tech seen in botw is only the tip of the iceberg, and that the decision of the royal family 10,000 years ago to abandon said tech was much more significant. It also would provide Ganondorf with a second motive in the story other than his typical "conquer hyrule, kill anyone in the way" plan. If malice, and by extension, ganondorf, is truly the source of ancient energy, I doubt he's very happy about being used as a battery for the past few millennia, and he's probably had more than a few dreams about destroying everything he's been forced to power, not caring about any collateral damage his crusade against an extinct civilization may cause.

Another great vid Monster Maze! Animations are just awesome too :) I was just recently thinking about BOTW2 and how fast travel would work, as you briefly went over. I mean, if the sequel is going to keep some of the open-world roots, Link and Zelda will have to find a new way to travel quickly. That's when I thought of Skyward Sword and the Loftwings. Honestly I think Loftwings would be really cool to see in Breath of the Wild's engine. I know it seems kinda out of the blue, but if the rumours about Skyward Sword coming to the Switch are true, I think this would be a good way to promote the game. I also thought up a few ideas on how the Loftwing could work in BOTW2: - Link and Zelda could maybe get a main quest where they go to either to the Forgotten Temple or the Lanayru Promenade since both locations have a few connections to Skyward Sword. There, they could play some sort of tune (if a musical theme returns) to revive it, sort of how Link revived the Blue Rooster from Link's Awakening - The Loftwing would have three different speeds, just like the horses (the top one being very fast) along with temporary boosts - Since the flying mechanic is OP, they would have to tone it down a bit so paragliding and climbing won't be nerfed. I thought maybe Link and Zelda have to explore on foot first while placing specific landing pads across Hyrule for the Loftwing (although a few specific terrains/locations wouldn't work). This would give the player freedom on where they want to place their fixed amount of landing pads (although they may be able to gain more through other side quests as a reward) - You can call the Loftwing from anywhere in Hyrule at any time (just like with teleporting) - Side quests such as fetch quests, races against the clock, and more could become a thing again (like from Ocarina of Time) - If Nintendo wanted to make a world that interacts with the sea and sky too, this would be a great way to introduce sky exploration (like with the dragons and their portals). Plus, if the castle does remain suspended in the air, then Link and Zelda could use the Loftwing to access it I hope you like these ideas and feel free to add on if you think of anything else!

Let's not forget that malice existed before Ganondorf was ever born; In skyward sword, the evil crystals are pure monster malice. and the ancient technology in that game reminds me much of the Shiekah technology. the Shiekah are referred to as the 'Shadow Folk', sure that could allude to that they work in the shadows, but they also lived on the surface, as the Hylians lived in the sky, close to the light, the sun almost all the time.

As far as the Sheikah motorcycle goes, I fuckin LOVE mine and I use it all the time... BUT to be completely honest, it kind of took me out of the story a little. It seemed so comical that we’re in medieval times, but Link was cruisin’ all over Hyrule on a Sheikah Harley like a bad ass lol. Like I said, I still use mine all the time because it’s so convenient and doesn’t lose power as quickly as a horse and it’s carrots..But if I HAD to choose which one to get rid of for the sequel, horses or the motorcycle, I’d rather them get rid of the motorcycle... ...Because years ago when OoT came out, one of the main things I looked forward to was getting Epona and being able to ride her out of the ranch. It was one of the most rewarding things in the game to have your own horse that came pretty much every time she was called. And I really really like that they added the bonding feature to BotW and you had to train your horse and make it like you before it would cooperate. I hope they expand on that a little more for the sequel 🤷🏼‍♂️

I liked to think that the Reason the Devine beasts were powering down were because of the champions no longer on them. The Sheikah Tech was created the the tribe by the orders of the Royal Family to protect the Kingdom from the Calamity. And all of their structures had a purpose.The purpose of the Sheikah Towers was to scout out monsters of the Calamity before their attack and to be used to protect the Kingdom. It was also used to find where the Calamity had struck. The shrines were solely to train the Hero, whether that be before or after the initial attack by the Calamity. And the Divine Beasts and Guardians were tasked with protecting the Princess and the Hero as they fought the Calamity. Since the Calamity was defeated and sealed away, wouldn't the Sheikah Tech return to it's dormant state because it's purpose was complete? There would be no reason to waste the Finite Sheikah Energy on guardians and HUGE beasts when there was no threat. This would explain why there were no tech in the shot in the Trailer, and why Va Ruta stopped working in the "True Ending". Because once it was realized that the Calamity was over, the Tech started shutting down, until the next Calamity which would occur in 10,000 years. I'm guessing that at a certain time the Tech would once again be available to be activated, like shown in Age of Calamity and the memories of BOTW. Probably within a few years or so of the Calamity to give time for Hyrule to prepare. The Tech would stay operating until the Calamity was defeated, again referencing to BOTW. It would explain why they don't have the Sheikah Slate.

Maybe all the ancient Sheikah tech began to shut down after Calamity Ganon was sealed. Vah Ruta already shut down by the end of BotW. This caused Sheikah slates, all divine beasts, pillars, towers and shrine to seize operation and in a quest to find the last known remaining ancient energy, link and Zelda go beneath Hyrule castle, find tunnels, find dungeons, find Ganondorf... BotW 2 commences

It would make total sense for Ganondorf to be the...let's say "Generator" for ancient technology. Due to Ancient technology dying out slowly, that's what would make Link and Zelda want to find the "source" which turns out to be Ganondorf. It could also add that maybe the Shiekah have their own terrible secrets? I mean villain or not, it is horrifying to imagine someone being drained to power something, even to the point where they're simply just a husk.

While I would prefer they got rid of the Sheikah slate and brought back the different types of older Zelda equipment, I don't believe they will get rid of it fully. As for why we don't see it, that could be easier explained. The Sheikah slate was a glorified Nintendo Switch, it was mostly for marketing their new console and since it was a launch title it was shown constantly as a nudge to buy the Switch and remind you as much as possible. As for the possibility that it might not be in the game or just not shown, a lot of people really didn't care much for the Sheikah slate compared to the older equipment you had, not just for the exploration and feeling of accomplishment of getting those items, but because it was a do-it-all mcguffin that you just constantly went back to (again reminding you of the Switch connection) and you didn't get the same feeling of being creative with solving things because everything was just "oh I guess I'll have to use the slate again for this" over and over again. As for the tech and energy. Beyond it kinda being "magic" linked to the goddesses in a way. It is also said to be over 10,000 years old already and still going strong, unless they do say its directly connected to malice somehow I'd wager that its still going to keep going even if you do beat Ganon. Might have a "no evil detected" mode though and go into dormancy during a time without direct threat of malice as to avoid being misused or to get it out of the way for all other daily lives (though why you wouldn't use such to better your lives is beyond me, but look at the amish as an example of people trying to keep themselves in the dark ages for whatever dumb reason).

I always felt like the Sheikah slate was almost a leftover idea from the wii U. Like the Zelda creators were making a new Zelda game for the wii U but, do to the absolute flop of the system they never released the game. Then, they went on to put a lot more effort into releasing the game on switch. Would make sense holding that little screen in your hand to have Link mirror it in the game. Now with no wii u or leftover software there's no more need for the slate. I personally found all Sheikah tech pretty immersion breaking into an otherwise beautiful and magical game. Like the tech was just a little to advanced for the rest of the world around it.

Spock would point out that your entire argument is illogical. You demonstrated that no tech was displayed during the initial reveal of BotW, yet it does exist in the game. And then you try to justify the premise that the sequel will have no tech based on the fact that the teaser shows none. Rather than assume there will be no tech because if the nature of the teaser, I opine that the fact there is no tech in the teaser is consistent with Nintendo's method for revealing gameplay, and therefore the sequel WILL have tech.

Something interesting I noticed is that the central control unit within divine beasts is modeled after how the great fairy fountains look before you activate them. Like flower buds prior to blooming. I'm kind of half and half with this. On the one hand I do want new gameplay and story elements so I don't want to rely in Sheikah tech much but I also don't want it to be completely absent or else it won't feel like a botw sequel to me. The sheikah were way too integral to botw to completely get rid of it. Instead I like the idea of the towers and shrines (maybe only the ones that were already present) to remain on the map but dormant. Like just a map feature but we don't really interact with them. Or maybe one or two shrines can be entered for a training exercise or something. Or maybe the hylians have done something with the shrines like built things inside if Link and Zelda gave them access I dunno. As for the slate, I kind of want to still have it because I love the ruins but I can see them doing something story wise to take it away. Like it running out of power or being stolen or something. To give us a reason to use whatever the new gameplay mechanic is, probably Link's hand. In summary, I do want new mechanics but don't want the sheikah stuff to be completely abandoned as it will feel too different from the original, just relegated to background elements.
