I was the one who requested it.That was actually his real dad,James's dad had stage 4 kidney failure and they couldn't find a match. They didn't expect Blunt Senior to survive, James made this song as a tribute to his dad. Every shake and crack in his voice is real, he wouldn't let them use any auto-tune to correct it. Luckily after this video hit a distant cousin got tested and bless the lord was a match. He spent most of 2020 in quarantine and healing but he's doing fine now. My heart is breaking for you and I'm crying right along with you. You weren't ready for this video. When they shot this video his crew were all literally crying and his dad was like," what are you guys doing,I'm still here" lol I got another request reaction, NF- HOW COULD YOU LEAVE US!

The story goes, this was the first time James sang the song to his father after hearing he had stage 4 kidney failure and needed a donor, otherwise he wasn't going to survive. James' record company wanted him to use 'Auto-Tune' but he refused because he wanted this to be recorded exactly as we see it, with all the rough emotions being absolutely real. Both men were former officers in the British military. I don't know how James managed to keep himself together as well as he did, I"m pretty sure I couldn't have with my own dad. This has to be one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard in all my years. It's quite amazing.

James Blunt has lived such a incredible story of a life, prior to becoming famous, he was a Captain in the British Army and was one of the first into Kosovo during the war their and then got told by a US General to capture the Airport from Russian troops (which could have led to a much bigger war) he refused the order as the General was outside his command structure, and his own “bosses” backed him up, a couple of days later the Russian Troops approached the British troops and asked if they shared the airport, would the British share some supplies etc (so worked out without attacking the Russians) The American General went on to an unsuccessful run for President where James Blunt went on to sell Millions of Albums His Father is also former Military

I'm so afraid to lose my parents. The older i get the more the anxiety plagues me because there's no rewinding time. Every day it just gets closer to "that" day. It's been my biggest fear for as long as i can remember. My heart really goes out to anyone that has had to go through it because i can't even imagine living in that world. I can tell you were holding back for the video, considering the commentary you added in, so i just wanted to say that i was crying for you brother. Seeing people torn up about losing their parents hits me hard because it's a nightmare that I'm not ready to face even though one day I'll have to. You've got to be strong as hell to find it in you to smile again after that i would imagine, so my heart goes out to you. Be well.

I feel the same way you do. I'm so scared of losing them but I know that day is getting closer. I'm in my 50s, I live in another country, but we spend hours on Skype every Sunday, catching up on the week we've had. When they go, it will tear my world apart. I honestly don't know whether I'll be able to cope not having them anymore.

I love that James’s father Charles agreed to do this with him so James would have that to keep. There was only one take of that song. James lost it a couple of times in the higher register but you can’t sing when you really cry. I think it hits you because it is real and from the heart. You can’t not cry. I lost my Mother at 44 and my Dad at 51. He didn’t know how to be without her and he had a heart attack. We didn’t know how to be without them. I have always loved James’s music, the songs he writes and his voice. He is so funny in interviews. He plays the piano so well. Enjoy discovering him.

British military family, old school stiff upper lip and lack of emotion - "just two grown men saying good bye" - but reality, is saying "I love you", "read you a story", "daddy", "don't be scared" and "chasing the monsters away". One take, raw and emotional. His father sitting beside him had a terminal diagnosis with kidney failure, no viable donor, a couple of months to live. This video, this song, unearthed a distant cousin was was a match, leading to a successful transplant.

Monsters' is a eulogy to his father (in the video) But he'd not been well - his kidneys were functioning at just 11%. And with that realisation, he wanted to tell him that, to him he’s more than just a father. He’s his friend too, and that he loves him. Both served in the British military so this would have been hard to convey to each other.. Beautiful song.. His father found a donor due to this video and he got a kidney transplant from a Australia..

Lost my father and mother a day apart and I'm not sad for them as they had a great life and loved me more than I could ever have wished. I miss them everyday but also remember and have so much love for them both.

When a song reaches right down into your SOUL and speaks to YOU. Those of us in the 'Lost Dad Club' feel this, as being part of that club SUCKS. The music, at times, has a way of reaching deep and healing you from within.

James Blunt is an English singer, songwriter and musician. Primarily pop/folk rock. Before entering the music industry he went to the Royal Military Academy and was commissioned into the Life Guards, a reconnaissance regiment, where he rose to the rank of Captain. He extended his military service and was posted to the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment in London as a member of the Queen's Guard. He also stood guard at the coffin of the Queen Mother (Queen Elizabeth's mother) during her lying in state and was part of the funeral procession. He's Involved in many charities, etc. Married to a Duke's daughter. And will one day no doubt be knighted for his service, loyalty, charitable works, achievement in the arts, etc. The song is beautiful.

Ok. I was late to this one! You guys......Becka, bless your heart for feeling for your man! The way you kissed him at the very end brought me to tears! Your guys love radiates through the screen. I already am a fan of your work, you guys know that! However, I gained a new respect for you guys after seeing this. I feel a little closer! I, too lost my dad. However, when I lost my Momz I lost it. My wife was there for me just like Becka was there for you, Vinnie! You guys...Much love and respect! Keep doing what you're doing and stay blessed, the both of you!

About 4 years ago my father had Alzheimer’s very bad. Since I was the oldest son,I gave my father morphine so he could sleep and die at home. After I gave him the first dose towards his final hours, he looked at me and he told me I could go home now. He was in bad shape and yet he knew it was the end. The song Monster and James Blunts amazing video , brought me back to that day, mentally and emotionally. God bless this amazing artist. I will never forget that day because my father was kept doped up for 37 hours till he took his last breath.

I feel mild envy for anyone who can watch this song without crying.......I cant imagine anyone could if theyve experienced the loss of a parent...... I lost my dad to asbestos cancer 11 years ago come September...I nursed him at home through the end of his illness, we're almost to the day to when he started needing oxygen full time, it was around now (17th August) that we had to put a hospital bed in downstairs for him because he could no longer get up to his bedroom. The cancer reached his brain and took out his ability to use the left side of his body on 2nd September, fathers day here in Australia and also my oldest brother's birthday.....we were all celebrating father's day and he went to take a nap.....we all heard him hit the floor. Before he laid down he could walk, when he woke....he couldnt. For 2 weeks our roles were reversed as the man who changed my diapers when I was a baby had to submit to his daughter changing his and then, as cancer stole around 5kg a day from the man who was the strongest person in my life, I held him as life left him. His last words to me were "love always"......it was what I had always said to him, every single time I spoke with him or saw him....since I was a teen. The strength that dad was known for never left him and in his last days he poured love on those who loved him. He died staring into my mother's eyes until the light in his went out. After 11 years Im pretty sure Im going to keep reliving the end of his life until my own life ends......Ive been through some hard, hard stuff, including being diagnosed with a terminal illness myself......but I still rate nursing my dad through to his death as the hardest thing Ive ever done. Harder than open heart surgery and losing my son. Thank you for not talking a lot during this reaction.....sometimes the interruptions and talking are inappropriate. Ive watched a lot of reactions to this song, I like yours best.

I cry for my husband who's father is passed from cancer Feb 2020 (before Covid hit in the UK) and I cry from all my dad's children, he is still alive but has little contact due to my abusive mother so certain lyrics cut me like a dagger through the heart and I just sob. This song has many levels. Fathers and sons who are no longer father and son.... abandoned despite loved.... chasing monster away... Still wanting to make him proud. All around.... amazing and very emotional song. X I did a full on meltdown when I first heard it and I still cry. I miss Dad so much but there is nothing more I can do until he decides to save himself from my mum.
