They don’t scare adults, not because they don't get scared, but because there's always a chance one could get smart and try to expose the monster world. Kids have vivid imaginations, so this gives them plausible deniability.

This movie did something I wish more kids movies would do, and that's not teach sugar coated life lessons. The harsh truth of our world is that most of the time wanting something is not enough to obtain your goal. You'll have to put in a lot of hard work, and even then it's not a guaranty. It may turn out you're just not suitable for the job. When this movie came out I was in my 3rd year of college with a major in 3D animation. However, I was having second thoughts. I struggled a lot in those 3 years, and come mid 2014 I left after realizing I just wasn't cut out for it, especially after learning how much modern animation can take a toll on your physical and mental health. Trust me, if you're not prepared it will crush you. In leaving though I found something I was good at and began investing lots of time into perfecting: writing. So while I can't share my stories through animation I can share them through text. And honestly, I'm much happier this way.

Monsters Uni is possibly the most underrated of the Pixar films, largely because it has the most grown-up of underlying messages: it's okay to not be good at something.

This movie means a lot. And I think a lot of kids who don’t know what they’re doing when they go to college + kids with disabilities can relate to this movie. I’m not sure how pertinent it is to some majors & disciplines, but the moral of this story really is accurate in regards to Sully’s story. For Mike, it’s a message that fits all disabled people. Just cuz ur disabled, doesn’t mean you’re any less valuable if you’re unable to achieve your dream due to ur disability. Not achieving your dream or getting to where you want right away doesn’t make you less valuable, in both their cases
@Ravenbones Жыл бұрын
That isn't how I took it though that is a good explanation. Mine was simple: Sometimes you just arent cut out for what you want. Doesn't matter how hard you work at it. It's okay to accept you can't always accomplish what you want. Move forward and do what's second best and understand that it is okay to judge yourself to find those limitations. You can't always achieve your dream.

One of the greatest sequels to an already great film. Out of the two, I live going back to this one and agree with you how even if college doesn't work out for you, you can still pave a new path towards success.
@LovelyLies162 жыл бұрын
Some people complained about the message, but I personally loved it because it's a bitter yet truthful pill to swallow in the real world. You can't just WANT something more than anything and always expect to gain it. Sometimes putting in the work will let you have your dream goal. Other times, it just won't happen because it doesn't fit you. It sucks, but it's real life. You won't always attain your dreams in the real world. But, you can be awesome at something else and live out a NEW dream better suited for you. And sometimes it's THAT dream that works for you. On another note, I liked how it foreshadowed Mike's future in comedy. In the camp, the girls kept commenting how Mike looked funny and found him entertaining. Definitely foreshadows Mike's future in making kids laugh in Monsters Inc and becoming its top comedian. So in a way he did achieve his dreams; it was just a little different than he expected.

The reason I like University is the full circle it brings to Mike's Story. A very important lesson for kids to also learn: You can study hard, you can work as hard as you can, but sometimes things just dont work out too well. Sometimes you just don't have what it takes and that is okay. We see in the first movie Mike gets to be famous now because he isn't scary and can make kids laugh, but before that moment he learned to adapt to what he can do and accept reality. This doesnt mean you dont chase a dream, it means after you've done everything you can and it doesnt work out, don't let it destroy you.
