Hey Matt - fun seeing some High Voltage videos pop up with you from time to time. I was a 2D artist/animator at HVS just briefly in the early 00's. I worked on several licensed games like Family Guy, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Kids Next Door, Billy and Mandy (my fav during my run). So Hunter came before me and Conduit came after me - just missed the excitement - ha! Though I remember the team pitching a Leisure Suit Larry sequel working with 360 dev kits. That was the new new tech at the time so seeing Larry's individual eyelashes was stuff of a nerd's wet dreams...so to speak. I only heard about the Grinder concept after I had left. Sounded great. I know there was hope SEGA would pick it up because we had a relationship with them at the time, but yeah, can't offer much info. And I know HVS was doing ports (I think Zone of Enders is a famously poor port...) and mobile games for a while. A hand full of guys left HVS to start Twisted Pixel games (The Maw, 'Splosion Man, Loco Cycle - genuinely creative guys). But these days I have no idea what HVS is doing (they did open a second location in Louisiana some years ago). But if ya wanted to rattle some cages about a Grinder build, ya might try reaching out to Eric Nofsinger. He's been the "chief creative director guy" for as long as I know. I'm sure he's busy, but approachable. I'm sure they can't realistically release any sorta build of Grinder, but it can't hurt to plead your case. Let 'em know there's Grinder love out there. Woo him with you influence vibes ;-) Also, there's a mister Kerry Ganofsky who is the owner of HVS, but you know - I might guess he's not exactly fluent with these sorts of gaming relics. Wish I could offer more solid info. I could try to put you in contact with Eric through LinkedIn if ya want. Either way, thanks for the memories!

I had all three of these games back in my bachelor pad days in my early 20's. Me and my friends (friend since the PS2 version was only 2 player) and beat all of them. Don't know how well they've aged since the early OTs, mechanics wise but back then these were super fun with friend's. You gotta do a multiplayer sesh with the GameCube and Xbox games

One of the reasons I watched this video is the word 'Gangrel'. I love World of Darkness and mostly the Vampire Masquerade (used to play a lot of the tabletop RPG). One of my favourite videogames of all time is Bloodlines from 2004. It's a broken messy masterpiece, which still to this day has a lot of attention and care from hardcore fans. You should definitely do a Wha Happun? on that game!

This is one of my favorite action/horror titles on the PS2. Picked it up on a whim off a Best Buy clearance rack and I cannot count the number of hours I've poured into playing it over the years. It's basically Gauntlet but without the constantly-decreasing health mechanic, with added levelling and quest mechanics. Late-game is really fun and the missions get quite difficult. Martyr is totally the way to go for single-person play. If you push and hold both analog sticks in the same direction while you attack, she'll do a running melee strike that doesn't stop and lock you into the standard hit animation. You can basically bolt around side-swiping enemies to death and you're always out of reach by the time they can react to strike back. :)

The "demonic teddy bear" was a rather annoying fight in the original with anything less than four people (as was much of the game; I guess development was rushed because difficulty does not scale to number of players and it assumes you have a full party at all times.)

Speaking of peak 2000s aesthetics, at least on the Matrix/Goth/Alt side of things, Primal is another pinnacle design. Game mechanics were meh but MAN was the voice acting and atmosphere great.
@Bluecho43 жыл бұрын
For those looking at this and wondering why the game seems to be assaulting you with Proper Nouns, it's because this game is an adaptation of the Hunter: The Reckoning tabletop game. It's a game set in the World of Darkness, the same shared universe that Vampire: The Masquerade occupies. Capital-h Hunters (not to be confused with lowercase-h hunters, who are just random people who decide to hunt monsters, and frankly are more compelling for that reason) are endowed by angels or some shit with supernatural abilities and the ability to sense the supernatural. This is basically all you need to know.

Dor the "Innocents" thing, it goes back to "the creeds", Innocents are those who are like the hunters in which they can see the supernatural, but they've yet to pick a Creed to follow (Creeds are like a mix of a class system with an Alignment system in this series!) or have refuse to pick a creed and hunt (basically ) The supernatural beings rarely attack the unaware if it risks "breaking the masquerade" shit, and if they did well, just use the rules of Stands in Jojo where Non-Stand users will have reality warp itself to explain anything Stand related. Hunters protecting "Innocents" can be seen as both protecting people who were or are in the position they were in when they first awakened, and protecting an "investment" in the case of the ones who became Hunters later down the road!

I’m actually offended that I didn’t get a notification for this. I love the playable official WOD games and games clearly inspired by the world. My favorite has to be Bloodlines (stereotypical answer, I know). The most recent info on Bloodlines 2 only being that it was almost canceled is… worrying, to say the least. The “light novel” (I use that term very loosely here) Coteries of New York had very amateur writing, which was a massive letdown. Please let it be that the actual writers of 2 have been working on this the whole time and that release was thrown to the newest writers on the team… Bloodhunt (the suddenly announced and released f2p battle royale) is the very thing I feared the official games would become: a pathetic attempt at a cash grab. Sad times all around.
