Thank you for all this. I've been experimenting with sewing my own bras. I have skin problems and a doctor recommended wearing natural fibres, and unfortunately all those bra notions, including the wire casings, are not natural fibre. On my current experimental mock-up bra, I used double-folded bias binding (homemade from cotton), 1,8 cm wide bias binding (that's the bias tape maker I have), so 9 mm if folded twice. I sewed down the open edges along the cup curve, and inserted the wire. I think doubling it like that should make it sturdier. And I'm really glad you did the one video about grading cup sizes because that should help me if my cup size grows again! I was also recently reminded of the dress The Dreamstress made for a friend's wedding - being a historical seamstress, she used some historical techniques, and she corded the cups. thedreamstress.com/2011/10/shells-dress-a-very-historical-bustline/ Which I think might be a very nice if time-consuming and effort-requiring alternative for people like me whose skin doesn't like the limited breathability of foam cups.

Hi Beth, I went to see the link, it's beautiful, I've never heard of that, it's a good idea. Also between top an inside you could use the Cotton batting made from natural fibers 100% cotton, it is usually 1/8" thick. www.createforless.com/buying-guides/sewing-and-quilting/quilt-batting-types-and-how-to-choose-the-right-one.aspx Bias is also a good option to insert your wire, to secure the tips you could double both end of the bias and I also saw someone add additional beige masking tape to the wire end. Thank you! And if you haven't seen the whole finished dress, go back and look it up in her portfolio, it's amazing! :-)
